man eddie is freakin flying here, he actually is playing the song note for note like it should sound. clean and clear. the solo sounds great. compare it to the 07 tour not even close 98 sounds way better!

His response was that he was quite satisfied getting out what he wanted musically in VH, but if he had to do a solo album he said most VH fans wouldn't get it, that it would be to weird and then laughed int he interview. Well, maybe VH III should have been his "solo album"...maybe people would have understood it more as a side project.
If you want Gary's opinion of his time with VH and the VH III album and tour, there is an interview here on youtube with Eddie Trunk. Looking back, Gary wished they had did a tour together before an album, even just a club tour...get a feel for each other before writing an album. Everything about that album was different such as using Mike Post to produce it...not a good choice..etc.
@rebirth64 The VH III tour sure did have Eddie playing well....the entire band played well. I enjoyed Gary's voice in Extreme but to me it didn't come out quite right on the VH III album. I think using Mike Post as a producer was a bad choice....the guy does tv/movie music for godsakes...and probably VH III was rushed and not thought out well. As for the tour, like I said they all played well and nice they did many old VH tunes...but Gary's antics and behaviour onstage were a bit weird.

I thought Cherone and the band would have figured it out with another album, the live stuff they did was awesome. Gary was never gonna fill the shoes before him, but he could have been really good with this band, I think he challenged them.
Did you expect VH to make another Fair Waring alnum with him or what. If you ever picked up an Extreme album you would know that their music is more the the song more than words. They are fairly hard. Even Eddie said that Gary was the first real singer that he had in the band.

I like Gary, he was a talented singer and the only one with enough character to leave the band without any fighting; I can respect that. He's also got some good solo stuff right now. I think he should have been put in the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame when they inducted the rest of the band.

They look so much better on stage ten years ago than they do on the current tour. I think it mostly has to do with : Ed's long hair, Mike with the band, more energetic movement from the band, and Ed's more accurate playing.

Man, this is so hard to listen to. This is my number 1 fave VH song, and the vocals suck. But the band sounds great. And Mike's vocals are tops. I still think of VHIII as the worst ever album I can think of by a band who'd once been great. Even worse than post 1980's Rolling Stones.

I like VHIII (didn't like it at first) and I love Cherone as a singer...but he really didn't fit the mix. It sounds like he is screaming on the whole album. It isn't 'pleasant' if you know what I mean.
He has a great voice, but it really worked with Extreme much better than with VH. I guess stuff just works out or it doesn't in a band.

Cherone ain't a puss! He's a great singer but just not an exact fit for VH. Extreme should reform, they're a great band. Gotta go with Hagar or Roth though. The III Tour was great. Ed was great, a lotta better than the horrible '04 tour in his drunken Smoking Loon wine state. III is kinda like Fair Warning, esp. with Al's tom sound. Maybe Cherone should have joined after a tour w/ VH, then release a record.
You guys are laughable. You have in your head that its cool to knock Cherone for some reason. Did you even listen to the track and the vocals? Find a version of Roth trying to do this song live and listen to it. Gary blows it away. VH III is towards the bottom of my list of favorite VH albums, but anyone who says that Roth did VH tunes better live the Gary either hasn't heard Gary live or hasn't heard Roth live.

Great video. Van Halen was and always will be great no matter who's fronting the band. Gary gets bad mouthed, but he brought the band it's highest level of musicianship ever. Sadly, it went over most VH fans heads. VHIII is a GREAT fuckin' album. Free your mind of what you WANT VH to be and you'll hear something incredible. I thought Cherone and the band would have figured it out with another album, the live stuff they did was awesome. Gary was never gonna fill the shoes before him, but he could have been really good with this band, I think he challenged them.

Did you expect VH to make another Fair Waring alnum with him or what. If you ever picked up an Extreme album you would know that their music is more the the song more than words. They are fairly hard. Even Eddie said that Gary was the first real singer that he had in the band.

Yeah, that is the one part on this song that Gary sounds terrible in. If he would have sang "Baby Please" normal, it would have sounded great.

I like Gary, he was a talented singer and the only one with enough character to leave the band without any fighting; I can respect that. He's also got some good solo stuff right now. I think he should have been put in the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame when they inducted the rest of the band.

They look so much better on stage ten years ago than they do on the current tour. I think it mostly has to do with : Ed's long hair, Mike with the band, more energetic movement from the band, and Ed's more accurate playing.

Man, this is so hard to listen to. This is my number 1 fave VH song, and the vocals suck. But the band sounds great. And Mike's vocals are tops. I still think of VHIII as the worst ever album I can think of by a band who'd once been great. Even worse than post 1980's Rolling Stones.

Fuckin Christ.....listen to 0:38 to 0:43 when Cherone sings "baby, pleeeaaase!"....now that's fuckin gay-ass shit! Cherone was such a complete tool in VH.....makes you wonder how drunk Eddie had to be to hire this no-talent queer? This will go down as one of the biggest embarrassments in rock history. I like VHIII (didn't like it at first) and I love Cherone as a singer...but he really didn't fit the mix. It sounds like he is screaming on the whole album. It isn't 'pleasant' if you know what I mean.
He has a great voice, but it really worked with Extreme much better than with VH. I guess stuff just works out or it doesn't in a band.

Cherone ain't a puss! He's a great singer but just not an exact fit for VH. Extreme should reform, they're a great band. Gotta go with Hagar or Roth though. The III Tour was great. Ed was great, a lotta better than the horrible '04 tour in his drunken Smoking Loon wine state. III is kinda like Fair Warning, esp. with Al's tom sound. Maybe Cherone should have joined after a tour w/ VH, then release a record.

You guys are laughable. You have in your head that its cool to knock Cherone for some reason. Did you even listen to the track and the vocals? Find a version of Roth trying to do this song live and listen to it. Gary blows it away. VH III is towards the bottom of my list of favorite VH albums, but anyone who says that Roth did VH tunes better live the Gary either hasn't heard Gary live or hasn't heard Roth live.

roth never forgot the words, it was all part of his stage shtick. check out all the romeo delight vids live in 82 and 83. i think gary is a good singer, but i don't think he n vh quite mixed. and since they parted ways so early, we'll never know if they had allowed more time to gel as a band if they woulda created some good tunes.

For the few not in the know as seen posted here... Van Halen III is referring to Van Halen with Gary Cherone as the lead singer NOT the Van Halen III album Women and Children First. This has got to be the best song Cherone did with Van Halen I've seen and even still he get's lame half way through. Anything else I've seen him in with VH the dude prances around like that Velvet Revolver lead singer... Seriously fay Brokeback Fashion!

Great video. Van Halen was and always will be great no matter who's fronting the band. Gary gets bad mouthed, but he brought the band it's highest level of musicianship ever. Sadly, it went over most VH fans heads. VHIII is a GREAT fuckin' album. Free your mind of what you WANT VH to be and you'll hear something incredible. Do you HONESTLY fuckin thing Eddie would consider playing with anyone subpar??? He knew what he had with Gary but most of the fans didn't. Shame.
