I find it hard to believe this was shot in Norilsk. Obviously Soviet propaganda to get people to move there. The grim reality is in the comments below by those who know. I bet it's awful for those who have to live there:-(
@Isochest i think it wasnt problem: soviet people didnt trust to propaganda, just like you dont fully trust to commercial advertisement.
I live in Russia and i cant imagine if someone decide to move ONLY because of propagandas advices (even in sovetic past). There is must be some another reasons: work, social benefits etc.
And now there is no propaganda but people live there bacause of that real reasons; its good oportunity for job and money. However - they dream to get out , its true.
This just makes the actual place so much creepier. I feel like I'm in a Resident Evil or Silent Hill game when I think about this place. Much, much more now.
The only problem is if you'd reshoot this with a modern camera everything still would be grey and depressing. Also i dont see any drunks staggering around and also no mentally broken army veterans shouting and beating up people.
This video is very particolar, i think that they have waited the only hot day in summer for shoot it. The soviet propaganda was incredible...Norilsk have beautiful buildings and a very organizated system now but I think that the live there is really sad, for the climate but also for the pollution. Here in Italy anybody know these cities, like norlisk, at the extremes of the world, but I find these cities very interesting.
@dadaumpa27 i don´t know what prisoners or gulags you are talking about - the people in the video seem very happy - not the singers only. the city looks very neat with working public transport system, leisure opportunities, good fun fro kids and plenty of goods. kinda looks marry compared to western cities of today, full of overworked, sad depressed peple, who are afraid of loseing a job.
the true goal stands before us: this video deserves to be seen by many people, we must make it more popular. It proves that life in soviet regime wasnt as bad as the massmedia wants us to belive. Long live the proletariat!
Arctic weather does have its advantages. No grass to mow, no pollen allergies, and no insects. What the hell do you Russians do in the winter, sit around and sing patriotic songs.
I was born in this town and lived there till 17 y.o.
It's a nice town only for them who lived there, but for now I can say - it is a very difficult place to live due to far distance from civilization and crazy climate, and, moreover.
Norilsk is also one of the poluuted places in the world :(
On this video we can see USSR propagation "how good to live in Norilsk". But nobody says their relatives were prisoners, and Norilsk was a concentration camp first of all.
It looks like a prison town. They don't show many men maybe because they are in the army defending the worker's paradise against the country that sells over 1000 different brands of house paint.
-50C, you Russians always have it harder than everyone else in the world. Here in New Jersey the coldest it ever got was -10F. Air that cold has a smell and it sucks the heat out of you. I had as Male Samoyed who loved the cold. Mostly everyone owns 4 wheel drive autos and snow blower so cold snowy weather does not really bother us. Our furnaces are not really designed for -50C weather and would not maintain 70 F in our homes. At -50C our pipes would freeze and our cars would not start.
@StingWolfpack In a nutshell, "we do have blizzards and frosts, but no smile is as warm as the smile of a girl from Norilsk". Plus a couple of words on friendship, the northern lights and the beauty of the sunlit tundra :)

@ulovil I think that the pay was high, and a flat was provided with the job. The film is clearly a lie though.

@mrduffy1100 it was both lie and it was true. Just like commercials, as i said

Cette vidéo de propagande donnerait presque envie d'aller vivre à Noril'sk.
La chanson est très jolie, les chanteuses aussi.

@nicolbolas999 what are you talking about?
this city was build on bones of gulag prisoners
its built for purpose of labor for nickle factory (correct me if I am wrong)
its one of most poluted places on earth (heavy metals)
there is snow 270 days a year, snow storm 110 days a year, and average temperature -10 (temperatures of -50 are not uncommon)
city is near some kind of military base as well, closed for foreigners totally
for good example of "nice life" in USSR" you really selected wrong town

Everyone in former CCCP was keen on getting to those cold places, because salary was paid through coeficients and those places had them biggest.
Now, when borders are open, only a few companies survived, mostly raw materials, because the production was very ineficient

when was the video filmed. after wwii? the 40s?
Timosha321 3 years ago
Based on the fashion of the women, I would guess the 60s.
This is a great demonstration of Soviet propoganda, Norilsk is one of the coldest and most inhospitable places on earth.
I wonder when Soviet citizens would have viewed this? I wonder if it served as a preview to a movie, or if it was aired on Soviet TV, or what.
