The two fighters (spear and shield, Beau, and the shoulder plate vet, Reeves) are actually beastly fighters. We could destroy the amtgard, if they actually were honorable to take their head shots.

The local "flora" was actually helpful in settling disputes. Due to the relaxing nature, when folks got into a really heated argument, they would take it away from the fight, have a bowl, and discuss it peacefully. Its actually helped a lot.
@Doradanis1 In Boffer Wars, its a locals thing. Its also the fact that we all lack money to get what other "professional" groups would call "standard" equipment. We don't care about that, we just want to fight for honor, glory, and a good time. the normal tred is get shitty gear first, try it out, and if you don't like the fighting style, you didn't spend much, not much loss. But if you DO enjoy it, then you can invest as much as you see fit. As long as the group itself says its safe to fight.
@LunarBluestar Don't take it as a critic ^^' i was just pointing something that i never seen before. Here where i play we don't have "professional boffer equipment" either. It was very creative to make a shield the way you guys did. My only concern was about safety (since it would no be nice to be bashed with a plastic shield xD) but, i'm no one to say "it is wrong" or "it is right". We all do the best we can to have fun ^^

As for bashing, out there you get your gear check out by the locals (mostly the elders who have been doing it the longest) and get it 'passed' to play with. Normally, shields are not considered bashing legal unless they are padded for such maneuvers. they test via hitting creator with it, and a few others, as well as a "hands test" to find hard spots.
I envy these people! I wish i had the guts to get out and do something like this. I'm sure i would feel so silly (i can feel the butterflys with in my tummy just thinking about it) and i'm even more sure that i would look so out of place griping at a boffer. but more then anything i'm sure that i'd have the time of my life and that it would bring a big smile to my lips every time i thought back apon it. thats what really matters, right? the laugher, the fun, the memories.......

I'm making a "real life" equivalent from a Bastard Sword blade mounted on a four foot pole to show my Eureka co-horts that this weapon would be unwieldy in a real life fight, but alas, when you have a combat system where a touch counts as a hit, they're tempting because they got the reach of a polearm, with half of its surface a "kill touch" and are made of light weight bamboo, which makes them faster than polearms made from pvc

I am a fan of historical accuracy for re-enactments and live steel combat, but Bofferwars caters to the budget of the locals. As for your claim of sweedish soldiers, i have fought some Swede vikings in re-enactments, their prowess was on par for the other groups on the field. They had spears and polearms reproduced from historic examples. so your claims are not impressive to me.

Pink, It was John I was fighting. Also, all you people ragging on those kids got to realize something, that was filmed by tourists passing through when most of us experienced fighters were'nt there (Reggae Rising was that weekend) I literally left the reggae festival and drove straight to the boffers, (scope out the wrist band during my flute solo). So, here i am hung over and exhausted from 3 nights n days of partying, not at my best, but still on the field none the less

Also, forgot to mention, the Champion Battle at 2:00 is between Bo and another very skilled fighter who's name escapes me now. Damn it, I even talked with him a week or so ago when he was walkin with Little Dave.... Fack.

Yeah, it did at that... i hate floppy weapons, they're not historically accurate (with the exception of some bamboo hafted weapons) and the wielder usually relies on the floppy to get a touch, but a weapon that has give looses impact, so, pros and cons. but yes, it was very phallic, (most pointy things are:-)

We need to update the Boffer Wars Annal of Glory.
Bo has been gone from the area for quite some time, a message from him would be desirable. However, being that the main season of this fighting sport has ended, its now got the hard-core fighters remaining.
Yes, quite a few of the old members have left. In fact, the only ones that occasionally show up is Daveness and Fitz-Pat. Next weekend I'll be there to show you all what real fighting is, not just some lame bear pit fights.

yes, actually, it is from a game, but it also happens to be a maneuver performed by Viking, Norman, and Renaissance era knights, John was also hungover, ( In short, drinking the night before battle is highly overrated, and not worth it :-). on almost every other occasion, he hits fast and hard, (He split my lip once with one of those a year earlier)

This is "Bo" Its good to see this up here, but I wish this was taped when our numbers were at full strength, that particular day was more of a play day than the usual brawls we do, for those of you who have fought there you know what i mean.

I would love to Visit Sweden, and I like your attitude, but it is out of my reach. the closest any of us will come to resoling this is to post vids of ourselves online. I have not seen videos of fights involving others that talk, i expect they will just continue to talk. I have seen some Swedish larp, interesting, and nice costumes (greek helmets and orcs specifically). I will try to get a vid of us when we are actually fighting sometime, vs this vid which tourists shot on a slow day
