That is scary that some of you think this stuff actually happened as it is presented. I can film a car crash - call it Terrorism - but it is ONLY a car crash.
@Preston327 That too is my only complaint. It was the same with Matthew Modine's accent in the Hitler film. At first I thought he was some American journalist caught up in that Germany 1919 chaos.
This is an awesome compilation/film! What would be cool is if another one was made where East Germany ended up having a comparable portion of territory to the real West Germany - so W. Germany would be the smaller one and you traced the cold war via that scenario...perhaps then it would be a Northeast or North Communist DDR and a Southwest or South FRD.
The "Bloody Events" in the recent "Norway Attacks" has a long civil and political history in post-WW II bitterness and resentment. Senior Officers of the military bureaucracy are more often than not the "Old Man" of "The Established Order."
Leonid Brezhnev was the classic example in the U.S.S.R. Mikhail Gorbachev was an intellectual; and, Boris Yeltsin was the most honest of the civil dissidents and revolutionaries.
Putin is a former KGB agent become "Top Dog" of the Russian political system.
Yeltsin went from corrupt politician to drunkie and from drunkie to mererly a fat, ugly swine taking pleasure wallowing in his own filth.
As sickness overtook him despite medical treatement worth millions of dollars separately, he squealed like a pig being quartered alive in a Chinese abattoire.
Gorbatchev was so mediocre he managed to slide to insignificance in a society where high governement officials can be illiterate as long as they have the right connections and kiss the right ass.
Yeltsin predicted the revolutionary changes in the Soviet Union long before they happened--in this way Yeltsin was more honest than his political competitors. Yeltsin did succumb to alcohol and the political pressures of "Power and Position", wallowing in his unexpected attainment.
"Perestroika" in the White House: "Mikhail Gorbachev's program of economic, political, and social restructuring...the unintended catalyst for dismantling what had taken nearly three-quarters of a century to erect..."
Of course, it was the plan. You might as well state that Hitler predicted the Nuremberg laws.
He didn´t succumb to political pressure, he was the one leading it.
Gorbatchev had no intentions to establish a democracy, make the soviet state work, even less make that work transparent. It was all pure rethoric to get popular support. The unexpected was the august coup, allowing his former supporters to toss him away like garbage when he outlived his usefulness.
@MrBrownstone8881 except for the nukes on Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary, and who knows what else, right? Post 1960 at least, there is no such thing as a war between major powers being "far away." cheers from a fellow Canuck!
We would never give up West Berlin. Thoughs Pershing II missiles could hit Moscow with 80kt fireballs in six minutes. I could see that alone in that situation being the trigger for WWIII. They were made as a first strike wepon.
@107Ryebread I think that NATO plans for defense of the West pretty much planned to abandon West Berlin from the outset due to its impossibility to defend. Conversely, Warsaw Pact plans for the invasion of Western Europe ignored Berlin for first wave, and left it to be mopped up by the East German Army Reserves. Main focus of attack would have been Fulda Gap southwest via Frankfurt and Mannheim to the French border.

@rangeclerk A nuclear war is a 100% stalemate, this is a fact, there is NO winner, so there's no reason to start such a war. The entire point of a war is to gain something from the battle, without a winner and something to gain, there's NO reason to start it. This is a fact, this isn't up for debate.
@JTcombomode It is "up for debate" unless you are "Head Dicator" and proclaim only your view is valid. Note in the 50's we could have vaporized Russia and no hits on US.
the really strange thing about the 20th century is that in the beginning of it (the 20th century) European states (like the German Empire and the British Empire) controlled the world.
but at the end of the 20th centuries the European nations were toys in the hands off the USSR and the USA.
after the collapse of the USSR Europe had a chance of rebuilding it's force, but haven't used it, sadly by 2008 all EU's chances were lost, currently the EU is once again turning into tools for Russia and USA.
No matter what anyone says, this scenario could never happen for one simple reason. Nuclear weapons were NEVER meant to be used, they were meant to be "used" as a threat of force, a deterrent. The reason being that a nuclear war can never be won.
@JTcombomode want to bet on that? See Kahn as 'sometime in a future 'timeline' a nuclear wpn or wpns would be used---the questions are when where how----
@rangeclerk Yes I do actually. I bet everything, moron. Guess what? it doesn't matter which of us are right, even though I am, because if you are.. were all dead. You honestly think they were created to be used?? Think about it for a second. WHY do we need so many especially with how powerful they have become. Its estimated it would only take a few hundred to end all of mankind. WHY do we have thousands? Its called deterrence. The more you have, the less likely you are to be attacked.
@ishikawa92: In conclusion of all foreposters if the German general made his career in lots of NATO and attache postings within the US it is quite likely American English became his primary working language.
@sulex10: It is just a compounding factor how events beyond the control of governments make things worse. It is quite unlikely any Neonazi group has or had the capacity to commit such a terrorist act without months or years of preparation.
This clever use of real news footage tells me that all this has been done already--all the clichés spoken by generals and diplomats, the urgent meetings, the crackdowns on dissidents--and when WWIII really does approach it will seem normal, and most of us will probably sleepwalk right into it.
Man this is good glad it didn't actually happen! Much better than some stupid ww3 simulation made by potheads and 10 year old brats who play HALO all day!
VERY IMPRESSIVE!! Having lived through this time period (the late '80s), I can definitely relate to what went on in this documentary. I am kind of surprised, as are several others, as to why that German officer seems to have an American accent, when so many of the other Russian characters did not. Otherwise, this has become one of my VERY favorite series of videos on YouTube. Well done!!
Probably. It wasn't uncommon at ALL during the Cold War for U.S. fighters to photograph Soviet bombers when intercepts occurred - mainly, to research whether any additions or improvements had been made, to improve U.S. intelligence. U.S. pilots would also sometimes hold signs up to Russian aircraft, usually with very "colorful metaphors" directed at the Soviet pilots.
No prob!! I'm a military history buff, specifically military aviation. When U.S. pilots would intercept Russian bombers (usually off Alaska, just like in the clip here), sometimes our pilots would hold signs against the cockpit windscreens (something like "Hello....A**HOLES!!" that the Russians could see). The encounters were peaceful (the pilots would wave, salute each other, flip each other off, etc., ) but I can only imagine the nerves were running high!
all in all...this goes to show that ppl will always fight against communism....no one in the rifght mind will accept it...i hate and agaisnt communism, and im not a neo nazi to think that...communism shold be crushed and never again hold power of any nation, even though capitalism isnt any better....i rather that than a evil dictator who runs the nation with fear and military...this is going to happen one day in canada :( and i will be fighting the good war against new world order scum!
The world could have been destroyed just because we wanted to hold half a city which should have not been divided in half to begin with, but left in the hands of the Russians at the end of WW2 since they lost so many brave soldier in capturing the capital of Hitler's empire.
@ColdWarWarriors did you do all the editing? this is an amazing job! it must have taken a huge amount of effort to gather and compile the video clips. thx, i love it!
USA and the world bankers are after starting ww III. the use of Nukes is 100%. I am sure there will soon be an other false flag operation like 911 to start a new war most likely with Iran. Iran is no week country thats why they first got Irag in the west and afganistan in the east of Iran. But the ultimate goal is to start a well planed world war. store some food enough for 2 years

this alternate history is a stark reality of what could of happened scary thought real scary thought lets hope this does not happen for the sake of our children thank you cold warriors for the upload
@pizzaman147 Yep, we really got awfully lucky back in 89/90. There's a million ways how this could have all gone horribly wrong. We must have had a whole host of guardian angels watching over us.
@pizzaman147 yeah i remember growing up in my early teens in the early 80's and how close this seemed possible.....i recall those Emergency Alert Tests that used to come several times a day on some stations
@pizzaman147 aye. this VERY well could have happened. there goes another night of sleep. im going to watch teh entire thing . this is pretty good i must admit. YT documentaries rarely are this way. many thanks CWW
This is a good program. However, at this point in the alternate history, I think some things are implausible. I doubt that NATO would say that West Berlin was not its responsibility. And I doubt that the USSR would provoke a huge confrontation while it had its hands full locking down 3 or 4 Warsaw Pact countries.
Boris Sichkin plays generala Soshkina! Da! kako mozhete objasnit ta nasilja na Berljinja? Boris was Leonid Breznev in NIXON by Oliver Stone, and here, here he is Soviet General in World War 3 by ROBERT STONE! :))))
He is ex SS oberst captured by US troops in 1945. He is captured with Wernherr von Braun and US government pardoned him and he became CIA agent in West Germany in 1960.
I'm met plenty of Germans who speak English with a strong American accent. One girl that I'd met in Remagen, who'd spent the past year at a US high school, said she was just getting her German accent back.
Some pick up languages more easily than others. My father has been living in the US for more than forty years, but still has a thick German accent. On the other hand, his brother, my uncle, has been living in the same small town in Germany all his life and speaks English with an almost perfect British accent.
@ishikawa92 because he obviously went to school in the USA. being that he is a NATO officer his english must be fluent. Not all Germans keep their accent some do quite well with eliminating it. I have many friends in german and from germany now living inthe states and a couple have pretty much have picked up a near perfect american accent. If you listen to the General you can hear he still has a slight accent every so often...
@ishikawa92 Maybe because he's an American and not a German?
In any case, a very small thing i did notice that was wrong, was at 5:58. You see 'Pays Bas' standing there, which is the French word for The Netherlands. Frankly however, all other countries are stated in English. (Spain, Greece, etc.)
@ishikawa92 Probably just badly dubbed. That guy is a German actor. In the original of the play (can be found on youtube as well, original title "Der dritte Weltkrieg"), he does of course speak German, and doesn't have an accent.
Yeah, he sound a bit funny... ;-) But without kidding: Those germans who speak english well and without a remarkable german accent often sound more american than british. Apparently, the cultural influence of the USA is stronger in contemporary Germany (Hollywood above all!).
@robivankenobi Lol the reason i said that comment was because we were learning about east vs west germany. Blah blah blah so i thought germans should have a german accent. Lol was i wrong.
@ishikawa92 The President of Estonia was raised in the USA. He speaks both Estonian and English, but he speaks English not with an Estonian accent, but with an American one. Could be the case here, too.
@ishikawa92 After the 2nd world war, the West German army was trained and maintained by the United States. Officers were taught to speak English so that the american soldiers did not have to speak German. The same happend with the East German armed forces. :)
@girocraz Re:@ishikawa92 note most americans have aryan roots so when a german and american speaks english, yeah they show similar accents
That's the most silly/ridiculous thing I have heard in a while. English people have Aryan roots too! Anglo-SAXON. This has absolutely nothing to do with how they (British, Americans and Germans sound when they speak English).
@ishikawa92 Many people in Germany learn their English pronounciation from either teachers who lived in the USA for some time - or, more frequently, they hear a lot of US english in movies and so on. Like me - my english is a bad cross between the American and English variants.

after the collapse of the USSR Europe had a chance of rebuilding it's force, but haven't used it, sadly by 2008 all EU's chances were lost, currently the EU is once again turning into tools for Russia and USA.

No matter what anyone says, this scenario could never happen for one simple reason. Nuclear weapons were NEVER meant to be used, they were meant to be "used" as a threat of force, a deterrent. The reason being that a nuclear war can never be won.
JTcombomode 1 year ago
@JTcombomode want to bet on that? See Kahn as 'sometime in a future 'timeline' a nuclear wpn or wpns would be used---the questions are when where how----
rangeclerk 1 year ago
@rangeclerk Yes I do actually. I bet everything, moron. Guess what? it doesn't matter which of us are right, even though I am, because if you are.. were all dead. You honestly think they were created to be used?? Think about it for a second. WHY do we need so many especially with how powerful they have become. Its estimated it would only take a few hundred to end all of mankind. WHY do we have thousands? Its called deterrence. The more you have, the less likely you are to be attacked.
JTcombomode 1 year ago
@ishikawa92: In conclusion of all foreposters if the German general made his career in lots of NATO and attache postings within the US it is quite likely American English became his primary working language.
@sulex10: It is just a compounding factor how events beyond the control of governments make things worse. It is quite unlikely any Neonazi group has or had the capacity to commit such a terrorist act without months or years of preparation.
kMondrakken 1 year ago
This clever use of real news footage tells me that all this has been done already--all the clichés spoken by generals and diplomats, the urgent meetings, the crackdowns on dissidents--and when WWIII really does approach it will seem normal, and most of us will probably sleepwalk right into it.

ColdWarWarriors,
VERY IMPRESSIVE!! Well done!!

are those real pictures takein at 7:13?
creez34 1 year ago
@creez34,
Probably. It wasn't uncommon at ALL during the Cold War for U.S. fighters to photograph Soviet bombers when intercepts occurred - mainly, to research whether any additions or improvements had been made, to improve U.S. intelligence. U.S. pilots would also sometimes hold signs up to Russian aircraft, usually with very "colorful metaphors" directed at the Soviet pilots.
knightryderrwn 1 year ago
@knightryderrwn wow thats interesting thanks for the info!
creez34 1 year ago
@creez34,

The world could have been destroyed just because we wanted to hold half a city which should have not been divided in half to begin with, but left in the hands of the Russians at the end of WW2 since they lost so many brave soldier in capturing the capital of Hitler's empire.

On the other hand, his brother, my uncle, has been living in the same small town in Germany all his life and speaks English with an almost perfect British accent.
lowaystar 2 years ago
Many Russians can also speak English without a discernible accent except when they pronounce the letter L.
bhkidd 2 years ago 2
@ishikawa92 because he obviously went to school in the USA. being that he is a NATO officer his english must be fluent. Not all Germans keep their accent some do quite well with eliminating it. I have many friends in german and from germany now living inthe states and a couple have pretty much have picked up a near perfect american accent. If you listen to the General you can hear he still has a slight accent every so often...
Defconfx 1 year ago
@ishikawa92 Maybe because he's an American and not a German?
In any case, a very small thing i did notice that was wrong, was at 5:58. You see 'Pays Bas' standing there, which is the French word for The Netherlands. Frankly however, all other countries are stated in English. (Spain, Greece, etc.)
jouwmakker 1 year ago
@jouwmakker no i swear they said he was a german any way i commented ages ago.

Glasslearning 1 year ago
@ishikawa92 After the 2nd world war, the West German army was trained and maintained by the United States. Officers were taught to speak English so that the american soldiers did not have to speak German. The same happend with the East German armed forces. :)

That's the most silly/ridiculous thing I have heard in a while. English people have Aryan roots too! Anglo-SAXON. This has absolutely nothing to do with how they (British, Americans and Germans sound when they speak English).
irishchrisc 1 year ago
@ishikawa92 Many people in Germany learn their English pronounciation from either teachers who lived in the USA for some time - or, more frequently, they hear a lot of US english in movies and so on. Like me - my english is a bad cross between the American and English variants.
