  • Sometimes, I wish I-95 went towards Bethesda. It's my favorite city in Montgomery County.

  • 0:15 Heh, I remember when that exit to the National Harbor was closed...Such memories

But look, now it's open :D

  • I wENT eXIT 25!

  • sweet video

  • damn it seems like u hella know DMV like every where

  • If there wasn't that many lanes, you wouldn't know you're actually in a major metropolitan area if you stayed on this freeway.

  • What's with the broken lines going in the opposite direction? Is that like the wagon wheel effect from old westerns? Just curious.

  • It's an un-intentional video effect due to the limitations of the software I was using at the time, too lengthly to explain.

  • actually its the frames per second at which your camera records. The rate at which you pass the lines on the freeway is in ratio to the speed of the frames per second recorded on the tape, causing the lines to appear still at certain points or moving in the opposite direction at others. It is exactly the same as the wagon wheel effect. Imagine recording a pinwheel at 24 frames per second. If the pinwheel is moving at 24 revolutions per second, it will appear to not be spinning at all on camera.

  • sweet vid though.

  • nice video ive never driven down there cause i keep hearing stories of how bad the traffic is

  • Thanks, the traffic usually is bad.

I re-shot this last week in HD so a new video will be coming in a few weeks.

  • My this is a long road freeway, I've been on it at Lake Worth FL. miles away.

    .

I like the way you've speeded-up the film, if only we could get around that quickly -it would be like living longer, by five years at least.

    .

  • ok..

  • Based on my calculations, this simulated speed here is approximately 300 MPH!

  • That's about right!

  • Random Stops yep sounds like the I-95 I know haha. Nice video once again man. :)

  • Passed right by my house at the Oxon-Hill Temple Hill exit....St.Barnabas

  • Have you been on the American legion bridge before?

  • Yes, several times, in fact I cross it in the next video that I plan to upload (eventually)

  • when did you get this footage? just curious looking at where the construction is

  • Mid-August 2007

  • Mid-August in the DC area...hot as hell that day probably *shudder*.

I love the DC/Baltimore area, but I'd love it even more if they moved it all to the north of Canada! Thanks for this footage.

  • I also hate congested roads.

  • kickass vid, I love the Beltway

  • i love the beltway..

  • Im back up in NOVA , people thought I was crazy missing THEE BELTWAY. Its a fun drive.

  • This was the first Interstate I ever drove on when I visited the States for the first time - was staying in Oxon Hill which is quite close to the Virginia/Maryland state line....and my hotel room looked right down onto that intersection that was under construction. Happy days!

  • what kind of car do your drive? i've watch some of your video and wonder.

  • I use my wife's ACURA MDX for the longer trips and my Acura TL for stuff around Atlanta.

  • haha wow this was certainly interesting

  • The best part of the Beltway is the Montgomery County section. Especially from U.S. 29 to I-270. The roadway follows Rock Creek and winds through the forest. This video brings back old memories though: Branch Ave., St. Barnabas Rd, Central Ave, Route 50, etc...

  • So true. There's no possible way you could go 60-65 through the Montgomery County part of 495 (Exit 28 to Exit 40) at 5:30 PM; thats right in the middle of afternoon rush hour, haha.

  • No offense, but the Montgomery County section is kinda boring cause there isn't much to see. I like the beltway(all parts) but don't get me wrong. P.G County's is better in my opinion.

  • O.K so Montgomery County's part of the Beltway isn't really boring there just isnt much to see as P.G's is.

  • I would tend to agree with you on that.

  • P.G. County? Yes, there is more to see - Fed Ex field, Woodrow Wilson Bridge into MD, U.S. 50 JCT, etc - but I prefer the terrain of the Montgomery County side. I love the curvature, the grading, and the banking. I have a greater appreciation for it - now that I am in Middle America...

  • What a masterpiece. Like the still shot of speed bike dude.

  • cool video. like the music

  • No, it was the middle of August, got lucky I guess.

  • great video freeway jim. By way this must be a holiday weekend as 5pm on most fridays the beltway is a parking lot.

  • Another award winning film by Mr. FreewayJim!!

    A work of visual art!!!!!

P.S.=Loved the insane speed bike dude scene!!!

  • Shows just how much better the Northern city designers are at structuring the highway system within a city. at 5:30 on friday in GA is as terrible as Tuesday at 3.

  • It's so cool that you can pass on the inside in the US

  • How fast are you going

  • 60-65 MPH for most of the way, the video effect makes it seem about 225-250.

  • Also, for the person who made this video, are they building HOV lanes in PG County? I wonder if that's what all that construction is?O.o

  • I don't know, I'm not a local.

  • i live near New Carollton off the annapolis road exit i remember taking the beltway saturday and taking the b/w parkway exit to my house :D

  • At 0:57, you were at the exit where my aunt lives!

  • Thanks for the ride! I think the traffic and the amazing interchanges make this vid. I get the impression too many US drivers are sleepwalking, not paying attention to what's going on - no wonder the US has so many road deaths...

  • Speed of Light - Joe Satriani (background music)

  • You are correct! Good call

  • Another first-class production. And the use of that "driving beat" really keeps the energy levels high. Keep 'em comin', Jim!

  • nice drive. Should try the M25 round London!

  • Wow, the Beltway doesn't really have that much commercial development adjacent to it.

  • The portion of the Beltway he's driving passes through Prince Georges County, and it doesn't have as much development as Montgomery County (north end of the beltway) or Fairfax County, VA (west end of beltway). The Tysons Corner area (where the Beltway/I-66/Dulles Toll Road) has more office space than downtown Denver
