Roy has inspired me to pick up my old republic resonator, most slide players use thumb & finger picks or just fingers but Roy uses a flat pick & his fingers which is how I play. This guy is so good you can't help trying to copy some of his licks.
i saw him an out door concert in winthrop wash. and he played this sam ax .that was back in the early 90's . great show cost 5.oo bucks to get in money well spent brings goose bumps to me when i hear this blues player preform .
I love the tone he gets from his little 1970 model Martin 0-16 New Yorker (not exactly what I`d call a cheap ass guitar!) I find it interesting that two of my favourite contemporary slide players, Roy Rogers and Jeff Lang, both use non cut-away flat top guitars.
You can never beat ' live ' but he can play....for what he is playing the Spanish kind of guitar to really ideal, very soft and light to play. i have been tying to get the guy to play the Uk. He is an Ace player in my book.
I saw him and Norton Buffalo 5 years or so ago in Caldwell ID at a (now defunct)winery and talked to both of them and Roy signed my acoustic. Truely a virtuoso player and a stand-up guy! Thanks for playing "Terraplane Blues" for me gentlemen!
As good as he is on video, if you ever get the chance to see Roy live, TAKE IT. The guy is just amazing. I live a block away from one of his favorite venues, so I get to see him at least once a year. I just saw him in concert two days ago and got a signed copy of his new CD, Split Decision. Beyond being a virtuoso, he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. You can actually see how excited he gets when people really get into his music on the dance floor. This is a CAN'T MISS show.
I've been playing slide exclusively for the past few months and started to run out of ideas. Thanks Roy, you've given me a great deal of inspiration. Love the way you play.
Sedom hear slide this good, such a smoothe sound.

Roy is the Tops, but I still have to say Johnny Winter is the very best I've seen. Still love Roy's style very much :)

@thrillhausen The blues originated from many different sources, and black people weren't the only ones with banjos.

What's so amazing about it is that is a cheap ass guitar!

Got to agree. They don't seem to place high value on the audio in any of these. Maybe they emphasize the visual for instructional purposes.
