  • Are there health packs for all the players?

  • Lori spawned those as needed at the start of each map, so yeah. That just happens so far ahead of the interesting stuff and takes so long it wasn't worth recording.

  • there arent so much servs for l4d.....

  • Yes there are, wtf are you talking about?

  • Oh, shit. That looks fun. :]

  • It was, until three things happened:

    1) People who got bored and started team killing

    2) People who took the game too seriously and bitched.

    3) The above two groups of people wanting to play on Expert difficulty only, rather than Advanced or Normal where tanks don't one-hit punt you across the map.

I wanted to have fun, but on Expert (which I can't even complete on an unmodded game) I wasn't having fun, then add in the bitching and team Killing.

  • 4:10

this server use super advanced expert mod

  • I don't know what you mean. The server is running a mod that the creator refers to as ED. Extreme Director, as it spawns more special infected than normal, at least 4 witches and tanks per map, etc.

I think at the time of this recording she still had to spawn weapons for us so we could start.

  • holy crap thats awesome now i dont have to worry about having 5 player in the game trying to kick me little bastards

  • rofl you got a Tank to do a Dragon Punch!

  • LOL I pissed myself right now :D::D:D nice one xD

  • Wow draco you're pretty good at l4d. C-C-C-Combo breaker! lol

  • This was on Normal difficulty I think. Playing on expert isn't as much fun.

Two hours after starting you're STILL on the third map.

  • ha 2 deaths not one

  • i would take on 6 tanks any day as long as i can play with 7 other players =3

  • 3 i mean

  • Really?

  • I dont see any Bills

  • It depended on the day and who wanted to be who. There was one time when Lori couldn't spawn any Zoeys.

  • wait were there 2 tanks in the beginging

  • Yes, yes there were. Try reading the description, we've faced up to 4 or 6 tanks at once.

  • How do you play this server!!!!!!!!!!

  • Actually, it's my mod. >_>

  • Lori mentioned there being another person involved but never told me who that was.

  • Really? :D

  • this woman is a genius

  • Is this hosted? I want the IP :D

  • It's pretty crowded. You have to sign up for a game in the official forums to play .P

  • Could you give me the link? Please :D

  • It's in the Steampowered forum, in the Left 4 Dead section. It should be around the third page, titled "To the people that wanted to play on my 8 person survivor server: Read this!"

  • K Ty...

  • Lol Near 7:21 Some-One screamed like link off Legend of zelda - When he falls of somthink !! XD

  • That was the guy playing Louis (his health bar is on the screen). I think that's when he made it to the safe room.

  • to hear your voice while recording try voice_loopback1

  • Yes, thank you, I think I've been told like four times now.

  • Addendum to my "I doubt this would lag" post is the simple fact that Valve stated somewhere that they avoid useless data clutter by only reporting certain changes in player and \ special \ infected locations, not every single one of them. Admittently, TF 2 is diffirent in this regard. Also, L4D LIKES .vtf files, while TF 2 laughs at you for them (I have not managed to import my spray since half a year ago when it "broke"...all it takes now are .tga files).

    L4D Source engine is nice...

  • Right, they had to cut down on data clutter (it's in the commentary). It allowed them to do hoards of zombies, but with that increased dataflow there's a limited number of machines you can keep updated, too many of them and that data reduction isn't enough: you're simply sending the data to too many locations.

  • L4D is by far the most streamlined and gorgeous Source Engine game I've seen, to date. I was impressed at how my self-imposed "Medium" class gaming PC (Runs most games on med-high on 1024X768 just fine) would make L4D purr.

...minus multicore rendering, which is hilariously broken, of course.

It feels like there is room for more interesting , maybe even "core" mechanics though. Hope Valve keeps the potential of this game in mind and keeps releasing new things..W\O the TF 2 "assfuckery" :-P.

  • I myself can't wait for the SDK. OMG that'll be sweet. I've got so many things I want to test out and see if I can make work, even if I can't make any levels worth playing, I can at least make demonstration compilations that show off a particular technique that other people could use.

  • i know exactly what you mean.

I suffer from "NO (MORE) MERCY" syndrome, wherein, and I kid you not, for THREE WEEKS STRAIGHT from late January to mid February, I COULD NOT go into a Blood Harvest game. It was all just NM NM NM.

Admittently, I know where things are \ could be, what route to take, even the "Oh yay optimal jump that shaves off 0.4 seconds of my time"...which is kind of sad XD.

    We *NEED* new maps...

  • Hehe. I prefer Blood Harvest myself, though No Mercy does have its merits.

Having played through Death Toll as this 8 player chaos fest I think I've fallen in love with it as the "perfect map." Open space (i.e. see the sky): check. Interior spaces: check. Both on every map: check.

The only thing it doesn't have is alternate routes (like No Mercy has: go left out of the spawn or right?). Blood Harvest lacks this decision making as well.

  • I prefer Blood Harvest simply because that's not No Mercy and the rest isn't out yet...XD. I'm so bored of No Mercy. Level 2 is a good medium-sized romp, level 3 is hell to and back six times, 4 is..a corridor shotgun run (In which I laugh at anyone picking anything but the autoshotgun....the level is THAT narrow!). Climax is nice, but you have to be pretty unlucky or mentally retarded to lose Map 4...

  • Seems like it would lag like a bitch.

  • Nope. A typical dedicated server can handle the I/O connections of up to 14 players PLUS the 100 or so common infected standing idle and hoard.

In theory a server could have 1600 common infected spawned at the same time, though usually that crashes the server due to hardware constraints.

  • Data's not all that impressively hard to manage, depending on how much or how little actually is required to flow to \ from the game .

TF 2 can shit itself with 32 man instaspawn server stupidity, but other than that...

  • I think L4D's 14 is more a limit on gameplay rather than server limitations. There isn't enough UI for more than 5 survivors (as noted by the HUD elements) and more Special Infected than humans unbalances things.

  • Erf, accidentally removed your other comment. Was going to reply with something to the effect of:

You could have more survivors, yes. There isn't anything inherently wrong with having 5, 6, or 8. There just gets to be a point at which its impossible to pose a challenge to that many people. With the 8 we have for these runs we have to throw 4 to 6 tanks at them to be dangerous (and witches to slow them down). Even then it's hard to maintain suspense.

  • Lol chaos

  • That looks really fun! Btw: alias "voicedemo" "voice_loopback 1" , write that in your autoexec, and you will hear yourself when you talk thereby it gets recorded.

  • Thanks!

  • seriously is the server up still?

I would LOVE to play with yoo guys.(:
