"The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most UNPLEASANT character in all of fiction; Jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty, ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal ... bully."
And that is not even the sad part. The sad part is: Humans suck up to him.
This video is amazing. Who couldn't agree that a first reading of the Old Testament could cause many people to label God in the very way this video does? The Bible isn't for unbelievers; it's for believers. It's for those who know that God doesn't make sense (as in what we think of as "sense") AND that He doesn't have to. This video drive home the point that "fear is the beginning of wisdom". For some (or most?) "seeing is believing"; but the reality is that believing is seeing.
who changed the vocals in this vid? Hahahaha awesome work! but such hatred for god....... whats with that? Me i just dislike all religions! Think about it.... The cause of nearly all wars has always been religion! Do away with religion all together and no more wars..... In reality, this wont happen...
@wantcheapbuy I'm an atheist and a proponent of eliminating religion from human society, but people like you that have an inclination towards being against religion should stop spouting off the completely untrue notion that religion has been the cause of all wars, because that is simply not true. Many have been started over religion, but just as many were started over land or resources, and relatively small number were started in the 20th century as an attempt to expand Communism.
@ZrazorRozenstrauch You seem to have misunderstood..... In my comment i said ' The cause of nearly all wars has always been religion!'........ NEARLY all wars......People like you should stop spouting off when you havent read what it is that you are spouting off about! We will always have wars, its in our nature.......... unfortunatly.
Most Christians have never read more than a few pages of the Bible.
They have certainly never read it critically. It is full of nonsense and contradictions- but they still defend it as true. It is about time we outgrew religious fairy tales and embraced reason and science.
@DontPanic6X7 Science can fit in with the Bible. Tell me something from the Bible that cannot be proven scientifically, and I will agree. Otherwise, no.
@crazyinsane500 It's symbolism, and this is where most people tend to stumble. Stuff like the Book of Revalation is mostly symbolism, such as portraying evil as a horned beast and portraying a city as a prostitute.
@Megan64fan If you are actually interested, and I hope you are- it would be easy enough to Google for Bible fallacies and science vs the Bible type searches. Good hunting.
@Megan64fan There are many things that are from the bible that can be proven, or better yet... explained scientifically, but it doesn't mean the bible is right. Don't even go there if you;re trying to defend the bible. If you wanna take me up on the challenge, be my guest. If not, stfu.
"So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies, as it is written in the Book of Jashar. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day."
For this to happen would require that the earth stop rotating. This would cause the absolute destruction of everything on the surface of the earth in ways this comment box doesn't even allow me enough room to describe. Reconcile that with science, please
You must not have read the part of the Bible where God is like, "Go into the promised land; only there's already someone living there so kill them to the very last soul. You know, so you don't get corrupted with logic or some such that might lead you to question me. Oh, and if they have any foreskins go ahead and collect those for me. I like those." : )
@jdlhnewhh No, I have read that. Your statement is completely unfounded, and may I suggest that if you have nothing at all to say that has any relevance, don't say it.
'Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.'
@jdlhnewhh The reason that they killed them was that if they spared them, they would continue worshipping their gods and the Israelites would be tempted to worship their gods as well.
@Megan64fan But the fact remains that they were genocidal for the sake of their religion. That's fine if one is strong enough; I accept that. Just don't go acting all holier than thou if someone tries it on you, or pretend that God adheres to some high code of fine morals. His goodness is arbitrary at best.
@Colp2 about the practical joke he played (like he was a 8 year old child) on Job. He made him believe he had to SLAUGHTER his only child! Made him believe to the end that it was true, then he said..."SIKE!" "April Foools!"
Now, logically and analytically speaking, does this sound like a neutral, peaceful god?
@Josho4096 No, you're confusing the story of Abraham and Isaac with the book of Job, and it was a test of faith to see if Abraham would be willing to sacrifice his own son.
@Josho4096 Nah the book of Job is where God is trying to prove that Job will be his faithful servant no matter what, so he basically kills Jobs cattle and family and such, burns his house down and gives him a bunch of diseases to see if he will still worship him
"thats some loser who is 40 years old and lives with this mother."...Posted by some loser who is 40 years old and lives with his mother AND believes in the bible...score one for the OP.
Well said...and quite RIGHT, 'Dilbert'...we need to rename the book 'Aesop's Bible' and make sure it is carried for sale in the FICTION or CHILDREN'S STORYBOOK' sections of all bookstores...
he's talking about the old testament god(Noah's god, Moises's god, Adam and Eve's god), not Jesus's god!
Anyway, it's not dilbert!! how can you even confuse the voice? Horrible for the fake video (and the voice =P) but really good for the content, finally someone who actually said a good reason why old testament should not be taken as "moral guidance"
For maximum impact, read this comment in the voice of Ben Stein every time you see the words Ben Stein.
Ben Stein made a movie that Ben Stein said originally was about evolution, and then after it was released Ben Stein said that it was against atheism. However what Ben Stein didn't realize was that the movie was really just against Ben Stein.
Probably an atheist. And, yeah. Let's just say, what if, you give a house to someone with no home. Actually, to a family. Then, in the passing of years, they grow, and expand, start to go wider and further, and expanding that little home you gave to them. But after that, those people start to fight for the control of that house. Again and again, and breaking it, shouting at you, and cursing you and starting to call you an racist, etc. What would you do, huh?
@Shicbs ''He just fucking took it like a goddamn boss'' That's not what Mell Gibson showed us:O He cried like a little bitch and went all emo about it.. After that movie I turned back to the Nordic/Germanic gods. Got to love a dude with a beard, a gaint hammer that shoots lightning, a horned helmet and all that while driving around in chariot pulled by goats. IN THE SKYYYYYYYY >:O ;)
The "God" of the Old Testament is arguably the most UNPLEASANT character in all of fiction; Jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty, ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.

Sadomasochistic? That implies that the God he is referring to enjoys pain inflicted to himself. Not entirely correct.

@killallneds No, he allowed others to kill him. And I wouldn't say he enjoyed it. Not the same thing as masochism.
