This has to be my favorite commercial of all time. I remember telling friends just how beautiful the lady was in this commercial and that it was probably lost forever, wow!
Does anyone know who played Catherine in this commercial? She looks familiar but I can't place a name with the face.
If they were to remake this commercial Charles and Catherine would be replaced by two puerile,A&F style19yo's... with the names of the characters being changed to something like Hunter or Kaitlyn. (no offense to any Hunter's or Kaitlyn's reading).
Naturally, the girl would say her lines in the most bland ,croaky little baby voice conceivable and the guy would channel just another played-out, tired-ass, second-rate James Dean...and not one scintilla of sophistication in the whole tacky mess.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this posting! This was my favorite commercial as a kid. The cinematography - visually stunning. The music. The subtlety - less is definitely more. I haven't watched TV for about 5 years and this commercial's why. Current television, both programming and commercials, is insipid and inane! I'll take a Chanel commercial and School House Rock over American [Idiot] Idol ay day!
Everyone who likes this commercial needs to watch the Chanel Eden Roc commercial. I'm still looking for the 1990's perfume commercial where a woman falls in love with a Greek statue of a male. We don't get commercials like these any more.
This is probably my favorite TV commercial of all time. Have not seen it in more than 25 years until now on YouTube. I first saw it during my favorite time of life as a youth and seeing it again has brought back those very great memories.
Many thanks to louisadeck for posting this -- it really made my day seeing it again
I have waited over 25 years to see this video, so thanks much. My fuzzy recollection deleted the goofy "names" dialog, but the rest of it is proof positive that it stuck in my mind this long for good reason--it's still the most evocative commercial I've ever seen.
It was 1982when we were recording this movie on tv and then we saw this!my dad and i replayed it over and over! boy thats a great commercial! hed say.i dont remember the name of the network tv movie.thank you!!
I just found the Chanel commercial I inquired about before; it's CHANEL - EDEN ROC If you like this commercial, you should check it out as it's quite similar but stunning in its own way.
Isn't there a Chanel no. 5 commercial from the 1990's that is to the tune of COME WITH ME, TO THE SEA? It was so provocative and sleek, and I think the "female" star of the commercial was the transexual (born male, but made a stunning woman) who was in the James Bond movie.
This was fantastic! What a shocking flashback to a memory that had caved in my neurons! I LOVE fully "recoloring" my memories like this. We truly live in a modern age when we're able to recall our past with this technology. I LOVE it!
I totally agree! I find, though, that sometimes things aren't exactly like you remember them...perhaps I viewed this commercial only a few times, then somehow reconstructed how it looked in my head over time trying to remember it...but seeing it again brings back so much!
the coolest ad of all time!

The entrance of "Catherine" against the dappled, bronzy background always reminds me of the introduction of "Rachael" in "Blade Runner".

This was made when our pop culture still had room for VIBE and SUBTLETY. Before 'XTREME' and "OUTTA CONTROL" took over.

@WizardsMachine I agree! Today's commercials are in your face but there was a time when it was classy to be subtle and mysterious.

The airplane silhoette on the skyscraper is quite creepy in light of 9/11. It wasn't intended to be macabre at the time, though
stillwaterguy04 4 years ago
Leave it to Chanel no. 5. Commercials were always ahead fof thier time and this would stand even today.

I recall the ad as being longer. Isn't there a scene in which someone in sunglasses is driving a Deux Cheveau on a beach....
