the first is a common expression, chemistry is a usual subject, picked because of Holmes' love of chemistry in the books, Dudley is just a name after all, and every film needs a mini villain, and Flaxwatter has nothing to do with Harry Potter. :p

Technically, the bear could be any colour seen naturally on a bear. A house may have windows on only one side, giving it an 'all southern view'. That means, the bear could be brown, black, white, or yes, even red.

Holmes would have to refine his deducing methods today. Nowadays Watson's shoes couldn't be traced to anything but a chain store or catalog company. Holmes tended to rely heavily on objects. Today he'd have to go by body language and psychology.

yeah. You see Watson, after coming back from the war, was in need of cheap rooms and one day he came upon an old friend who said that he knew of someone who was hoping to share rooms at Baker Street. He met Holmes in a laboratory just as he was making a great discovery in the scientific and crime solving world. And holmes immediatly tells him everything about Watson just by looking at him and its settled.
