Wow Telstar.......for you kids this song dedicated to what was a miracle for us in the early sixties....remember seeing broadcast in a morning showing live pictures on the TV from Washington DC, NEW YORK, and West Coast.....Telstar was the first communication Satellite.....
@kenandsandy no, it sounds sort of like a univibe. the pitch isn't changing but the tone is pulsating between bright and dark. i can even hear him using the vibrato arm with the effect still engaged
just imagine if they had distortion petals...you would have the true birth of (thrash) metal in my opinion...its the only thing thats missing...the leads are extrordany, and very complex and fast to boot...i feel that they were beyond the "surf" style....i cant think of any other catagory to honestly place them under....just due to there style of playing...its beyond the beach boys and the beatles and the doors....this was the birth of thrash.
Mel Taylor only used only one ride cymbal that was also his crash!
They moved and played with great energy and enthusiasm. That's what America was at that time. Just before the free sex and drugs burned out our valves and left us sputtering. Its great to have history recorded to see and hear. The Ventures were all American boys at heart. That is why it took so long to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They were too clean living for them to accept.
I think that's a pretty accurate assessment of what happened from that era to the present. Too bad so many people flushed their precious values down the toilet. That was a better era. You're right on dude.
So much can be said for the #1 rock musicians of this era - no huge drum sets with a zillion drums / cymbals - guitarists plugged strait in - no massive rack mounts or huge effects pedal boards. This is the real thing - so awesome! Such talent!
at about 7:00 I was waiting for the scene where the giant reptile crawls out of Tokyo Bay and starts crushing buildings while Nick Adams directs the Japanese Army to aim their lasers at his eyes.
スタジオ盤とは全然違ってロックしてますね~~~
めちゃめちゃカッコいい~~~~

Four speakers and 250 combined watts. A simple drum set...
yet these guy's have such a huge sound! It is truly amazing
how BIG talent can make due with so little. A lesson for us all.
