I would kill this guy with my bare hands. Respect your fucking country and the people that die for you to be able to even attempt to do this. Fucking liberal piece of shit.
It's funny to watch all this redneck filth and their degenerate behavior. If Haas really wanted to do a good deed, he should have soaked the rednecks in gasoline and burned them. It's his perfect right to burn a flag in protest and that right was won in the courts by progressive people and their lawyers, not by some fascist, militarist, opressive soldier boys. It's these rednecks that are truly unamerican filth and they should be executed for capital treason for going against the constitution.
you are complete idiot. you should do your research before runnung your mouth. louisiana was the first state to have completely free black americans. you ever heard of Treme. Its the current site of louis armstrong park. If you knew anything other than what some yankee proffesor taught you to help instill hatred toward the south you might know this. Louisiana may be the closest thing to a harmonious state I've seen . Educate yourself!!! TREME
Fuck Louisiana and the south. Luoisiana's only claims to fame are being the dumbest state in one of the dumbest of the industrialized nations. That, and having a history of being a slave state. A ku Klux Klan haven, a fundamentalist bible thumping fuckhole, a state filled to the brim with injustice and pure demonic wickedness, not to mention a state filled with the biggest lardasses in the world because they gorge themselves on pound cake and grits. Worthless fucks.
Do you yankees not get that the term redneck doesn't offend us? But then again I guess we could be like you Guyz and and sip some soda pop and get sticky shit out of trees
@iBlasphemiZe yeah i can't argue...i am for sure a redneck. and you're another pussy ass yankee. i'm glad you don't like louisiana. it doesn't offend me at all cuz that means you won't come here. please by all means hate louisiana and stay the hell out. i guarantee you everyone else in the state and the rest of the southern states agrees with me too.
@darbsta187 I unfortunately live in Louisiana, and go to high school on LSU's campus. Kind of funny how you say we don't tolerate dumb shit in Louisiana when we're the 49th least educated state behind Mississippi. The only thing "dumb" that happened in Baton Rouge on this day was hundreds of people showing up to stop a guy from burning a 99c flag and wasting taxpayers money by making it a big ordeal and forcing police to come. And I assume these are the kind of people who want lower taxes. LOL
undermining the morale of our troops during wartime is TREASON. this obviously is upsetting soldiers' morale so fuck you assholes that say this worthless shitstain has the right to burn the flag. If you don't like it, GET THE HELL OUT OF MY COUNTRY YOU CRYBABY WUSSY ASS LIBTARDS
@strawbary No you get out of this country you Tea Party hick. If people didn't show up to the event, he wouldn't have offended anyone because it would've never made the news. However, because people showed up with the mindset "yeauh amurica, wer gon stop this evil man frum burnin our flag," it blew up into a big event and gave the man attention (which is what he wanted). I am officially ashamed to live in Louisiana; no wonder we're the 49th least educated state in the U.S.
@strawbary Nice how you comment on my page (CrawfishLover94) and then block me. It really shows that you're a kind and intelligent person (although I wouldn't want to assume too much, considering you couldn't even find the "reply" button on the video I replied to your comment on). Also, it's kind of funny how you have the 2nd amendment on your page, when you fail to understand that the man has his 1st amendment rights to burn the American Flag whether you like it or not (dumb bitch).
@strawbary And also, I'm not a liberal, I'm a libertarian and free thinker who hasn't been sucked into the bible and fox news like you have. You're a slave to the system, and that's all you'll ever be. Learn to think for yourself once in awhile moron. I have no respect for grown ups like you who can't even use proper grammar so in conclusion; fuck you. By the way, the only one crying is you. Wahhh, don't burn that 99c American Flag you bought from WalMart or you'll be committing treason!
To many people have died for our flag and what it represents. Any good, true american would never let that happen within his presence. The American flag is something that stands for what none of you have never been without, freedom, liberty, justice, safety, equal rights no matter your color or gender ect.... Thats why few have a respect for it. Thats why you want to try and understand the opposition, and their views.....
the beauty of our country: this piece of shit has the right to burn a flag, yet the citizens watching him have the right to bitch his ass out until he leaves with his tail between his legs.
@DatPicksburghGuy THE FLAG DOESNT GIVE US OUR RIGHTS, A CIVIL SOCIETY AND THE CONSTITUTION GIVE US OUR RIGHTS. THESE IGNORANT FUCKS SHOWED NO CIVILITY NOR ANY RESPECT FOR FREE SPEECH. WE WILL CRUSH YOU. HE DIDN'T EVEN BRING A FLAG, HE BROUGHT HIS FREE SPEECH ALONE AND YOU PEOPLE ACTED DESPICABLE. AMERICA ISN'T FREE WITHOUT CONSTITUTIONAL PROTECTION AND CIVILITY.
This reminds me of the book "Lord of the Flies" how they all circle him and chant. Similar to the chant in the book "kill the pig slit its throat." That boy has the right to burn the flag (not a stolen flag) because thats the freedom our fore fathers fought for.
@FutureVideos2013 How does burning a flag translate to freedom of speech? These people have just as much right to counter protest. This is obviously a provacative statement in some (good) parts of the country. Well done LSU.
@Kaltwasser45 "How does burning a flag translate to freedom of speech?"
Well, as decided by the 1989 case "Texas Vs Johnson," the SCOTUS concluded that "Under the circumstances, Johnson's burning of the flag constituted expressive conduct, permitting him to invoke the First Amendment... Occurring as it did at the end of a demonstration..... the expressive, overtly political nature of the conduct was both intentional and overwhelmingly apparent"
@AndrewDeLong I understand that. Simply burning the flag doesn't say anything but screw u america. There is nothing specified in burning a flag. It is simply a provacative action to get a response. It may be legal, but it doesnt state anything specific ,so u can understand why the response. There are more decent ways of expressing yourself without flag burning. For me, if you burn the flag, you have stepped over the line. Your message falls on deaf ears at that point.
As for nationalism, I'm no fan of it myself, but in the same token I won't burn a flag because of it. That is a form of protest I'd save for something MUCH more important. Don't mistake me, there's nothing wrong with having some pride in one's country, but nationalism and blind patriotism breeds ignorance. I know people who honestly think there's not a single thing wrong with this country, and that anyone who disagrees should leave. That's nationalism at its finest....or worst
@AndrewDeLong For many patriots and veterans, this flag means alot. You don't have a complaint if you must burn something to get attention. Anyone who respects this country and where it comes from, would never do this. The only conclusion , is that people who would disrespect our flag that way, hate america and where it comes from. These peple that are willing to do this, have no respect for this country, therefor have no respect for the flag. Hippies=hate nationalism
@FutureVideos2013 your a moron. Our fore fathers fought so that beautiful flag could be flown with pride, not desecrated. No one should have the freedom to burn it. You are a fool for having such an ignorant mindset.
@LIVE7STRONG Apparently you don't have the mindset that it's a fucking cloth flag that is produced in thousands by the day. If he wants to buy a 99 cent flag and burn it, let him do it. The only reason he did it in public is because he knew retards who get offended over the dumbest shit would show and give him attention. And if you did show up to try and stop him, you're a bigger moron than the guy that was going to burn the flag for giving him what he wants.
@LIVE7STRONG Funny thing is, I'm still in high school. I go to University High on LSU's campus and I think all of the students who went over to the parade grounds to stop this guy are fuckin' retarded. Fun being outsmarted by a high-schooler huh?
And if there is any contention on who the Founders would have supported in this sort of case, remember who John Adams supported in the Boston Massacre case. He supported the British soldiers against the mob. People have rights, and they must be protected. Mob rule is not acceptable.
We're getting off topic. The crowd was violating the law in calling for violence against this lone individual. A person who wasn't even going to burn a flag, but wanted to call people to the importance of our constitutional rights. Instead of allowing him to make a simple speech, they called for violence. They shouted to beat him up. Haas was covering himself with the constitution, they were covering themselves in a flag, while advocating mob-rule.
Utterly disgusting. The constitutional protections of speech are needed not for the norms of speech, but for the extremes. It is because the mob will set itself against those in the minority these protections are necessary. It's sad to see this mob set itself against those very protections necessary for American freedom. It sickens me to hear them talking about beating him up, and trying to hurt him. He has a right to freedom of speech, you do not have the right not to be offended.
His right to free speech does not mean he has a right to be heard. It does not mean that while he exercises his free speech rights, others with opposing views will not make it more difficult for him to express himself. He chose not to burn the flag; no one told him he could not. Although I think he made a wise decision, it was still his decision to make. Even with free speech there is a responsibility that comes with it. I have a right to bear arms, but that does not mean I can have any gun.
@EyeinTeaJay There were people in the crowd shouting to hurt this young individual. This is not okay. It's a clear violation of the law. This was not a counter-protest, this was an attempt at mob lynching.
@PhiloAmericana This individual knew going in to this that there could be an unfavorable reaction from the crowd. Whereas I do not condone violence, it does not mean it does not exist. Mr. Haas made the decision to place himself in this situation, and wisely made the decision not to carry out his moronic display.
@EyeinTeaJay He has a right to do what he did. He should expect the protection of his rights, not fear of a mob. He a a right to speak freely, and he has been told by his country since the time of his birth that he is allowed to do so without fear of harm of hindrance. The fact that the mob set out to challenge his rights, and to harm this human being reflects badly upon them. The ones who called out to harm him should be arrested and prosecuted.
@PhiloAmericana The "mob" was just demonstarting their right to freedom of speech and expression. Just because they called for violence does not mean they were going to actually do it. They were just freely expressing themselves.
@EyeinTeaJay Your argument is analogous to blaming a rape victim because she was dressed in an unseemly manner. The woman has a right to dress how she pleases in a free society, the rapist has no right to give in to his emotion and break the laws. In the same way, this person has a right to speak freely, whether extreme in nature or not. The mob has no right to call for violence, and to attempt to harm this person.
@PhiloAmericana I wont make the mistake of going back and forth with you on this, we both have our opinions on this matter, and neither will change. I am glad that these students stood up for their country and their flag, and I hope this is a growing trend. Freedom of speech does not mean you can go in to a crowded theater and yell fire.
@EyeinTeaJay They didn't stand up for their country. They actively contradicted the principles of our constitution, and undermined our collective freedoms. Freedom of speech means that the most extreme views can be expressed so long as they are not directing or advocating violence against the country. This young man may have wanted to burn a flag out of whatever grievance he may of had over our foreign policy, but that is not against the law. He is well within his right to do so.
@PhiloAmericana not true,...while the guy has a right to burn the flag,...that right does not absolve him of criticism for it...and everyone who was there to protest him have the right to speek thier minds, as well,...free speech isnt a one way thing, he can say what he wants,..but we dont have to like it....sorry but your a dufus....i doubt you would be as sympothetic if it were the Westboro baptist church burning the flag.
@sociallyunaceptable Actually, I support the free speech of all parties involved. What I do not support is those in the mob calling for the mob to act in a violent manner. That is clearly against the law. As I said, they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
@PhiloAmericana he was not harmed at all....so they only prosicuite actual crimes....not hypothetical ones....and what of the angry union mobs in wisconson?...and the mobs who protested the irac war....or the mobs who protested prop 8 in california?...etc etc....everyone has a cause....and no one is above getting angry over what they percieve to be an injustice.
@PhiloAmericana tell that to the black pathers and the eco terroists...and the union protestors...untill then i doubt you see a prosicution for any of these people for being pro america..
@EyeinTeaJay On the other hand, they had no right to do what they did, as it was clearly contrary to the law. You have absolutely no right to call a mob to violence. That's not just a violation of the law, it very severely challenges the freedom of our citizenry. They should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. They must be made an example of. You cannot act in a way that will limit the freedom of your fellow citizens. It's not acceptable.
WOW ! Most people commenting here don't seem to understand the Constitution or the Bill Of Rights. Why is democracy bullies ganging up on someone's Constitutionally guaranteed right a good thing ??? This nation is a Republic, where rights are upheld.
hell ya!!!!! L.S.U !!! #1 finally a University that looks like it hasn"t been over ran by socialist Profs. like U.T. and so many others. The Boy needs to be busy keeping his mind on how to eat and pay his taxes like the rest of us!!
Brought tears to my eyes seeing young college students doing the right thing and finally shouting down a detractor and defending our flag and our nation! Well done LSU!!! God Bless!!!
"When fascism comes to america it will be wrapped in the flag"..... If you don't like someone having a right to burn their own country's flag, then i'd advise you to move to N. Korea where it's illegal. I personally don't agree with him doing it, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't have the right.
At what point do you stand up in contravention of the assumed norm? At what point do you say screw it, the hippies have some great ideas but like like any idea driven person, they need to be reigned in. That is all.
Way to go TIGERS. Keep it up. He was protesting Eslava's freedom of speech, but Eslava's arrest had nothing to do violating his freedom of sppech. Eslava was arrested because he destroyed private property, he resisted arrest and he was in possession of drugs. Haas had no reason to protest Eslava's arrest, in doing so he protests the laws of our nation. I am proud of the LSU TIGERS. Wa to end the semester. This sends a loud message to anyone wishing to repeat Haas's protest.
Just hours after the news of Osama bin Laden’s death, an American flag was stolen and found burned on the LSU campus. The flag had been flying at LSU's War Memorial for the past two years. LSU Police have arrested the man Isaac Eslava, 23, who turned himself to LSU police on charges of theft and arson. On wednesday graduate student Benjamin Haas had planned to burn an American flag in response to the arrest of Isaac Eslava. This video shows the student counterprotest
@mrl3817 The rest of the story is in his speech that he wasn't allowed to give. In which he said he would not burn the flag because of what it stands for.
@mrl3817 THAT'S NOT THE WHOLE STORY. look, i don't fully get what Ben was after, but his explanation of what he was doing is pretty simple and non-offensive. his argument was that student affairs should be kept to college jurisdiction and not given over to the police (i'm not sure if i agree or not, that's not the point) and also that all should be assured due process so that WE'RE ALL safe (as you would want if you were wrongly accused). why he wanted to burn a flag i'm not sure...
@mrl3817 THE FLAG DOESNT GIVE US OUR RIGHTS, A CIVIL SOCIETY AND THE CONSTITUTION GIVE US OUR RIGHTS.
Still not sure how my credentials are being attacked as that is not what this is about...but I was talking about bullies so...FB me if you wanna continue this more personally other wise I said good day! =)
@staticelf: No, we were talking about law and you were saying there is one that prohibits the students from protesting but could not provide the article of any that does. You're the one who brought up your "credentials" and so I said, 'oh, I'm sorry you were so stupid to risk your life (allegedly) for a law that doesn't exist and never has'. I can only say, you protest way too much --> w w w (dot) theblaze (dot) com/stories/meet-the-men-who-expose-fake-navy-seals/
@4YHVHdaughter I dont need to provide articles on a forum goof ball again this isnt polisci class...and please have me checked out that would be awesome and you would look really silly. (Not a navy seal but all my "credentials" are true...Citadel 2003 grad in polisci then 2008-2009 Iraq tour with 2-149 GSAB Aviation Battalion where I was given the air medal for successful completion of over 60 night combat missions in my CH-47 Chinook....like I said FB me and I can show you me...there....easy.
@staticelf: Now how would someone fb you without knowing who you are? And if you're going to go around spouting untruths about mythical laws, on YT or otherwise, you should be able to back up what you're saying with some semblance of reality. There IS no law prohibiting any of us from protesting an unpopular view, you just thought there was, and you should educate yourself on the matter since the "poli sci" instructor failed you miserably.
Google Leland Gross Citadel (the military college where I obtained my BA in poli sci before becoming an army helicopter pilot...might be able to find me under list of Army Air Medal recipients as well but I've never googled that sorry I'm THAT narcissistic.
I agree with you it is not completely a right (yet) but my point still stands...his liberties were impeded because the counter protesters stopped him from completing his own protest. Any way you look at it the mob decided what took place and that is not what I fought for in the military. One dictator or a mob of them you can't take away another's liberty with just because there are more of you.
@staticelf: I'm having great doubt that you are ex-military. While an education in the public school system would account for the glaring lack of Constitutional knowledge you've demonstrated, I cannot see anyone getting out of the military with no knowledge of civics and the workings of our government. There is just NO SUCH LAW, Constitutional or otherwise, which prohibits a mob of protesters from shouting down an opponent they disagree with. If there is, name the article.
@staticelf Your point does NOT stand anywhere except in your own dillusions. No one was arrested because no laws were broken. A mob of citizens is NOT legally prohibited from exercising free speech, any more than any one individual is. If you fought for silencing mobs of American citizens in the military then you did so with a complete misunderstanding of what our rights are.
To be clear I have no issue with counter protesting...I really support it actually as it shows both sides but the second you impede or attempt to stop those with another opinion you have infringed on their right to gather and protest.
Why were the student protesters not arrested then? If someone's rights were infringed upon, why wasn't someone arrested? You have little to know knowledge at all what our rights even are.
Awww does this make you feel smart Daughter? We don't need to hear a regurgitated bias poli sci course. Since you see it that way gather up your friends for the prez elections and make sure no one votes for the candidate you oppose at the local poll...and while you are at it any business owner you don't agree with their views just keep people from going into his place...can you see where this is going.
@YHVHDaughter if our peers can stop us from protesting which is our right what about other rights like voting...let's get a few thugs to guard the polls and keep out the people we don't agree with. As an american soldier it hurts to see flag burning but I have fought and watched my friends die in war so that we are free to express our anger with the government without being bullied. -1LT Leland Gross (research Hitler's Brown Shirts who used your "peers can stop this" approach)
@staticelf: While certain amendments regarding voting have been added, the Constitution itself does not implicitly guarantee a right to vote. If it does then one would have to explain the rationale for Jesse Jackson's 2005 proposal, HJR 28.
@staticelf In regards to peer pressure, obviously peer pressure took a more menacing form under a ruthless Dictatorialship than it does in a functioning Republic. Aside from hurt pride, the Republic prevented harm from coming to flag-burner. There's no fair comparison btwn student patriots and Hitler's brown shirts. No Dictator ordered students to protest & there was no indication that protesters intended to use any force other than free (albeit harsh) speech to deter the flag-burner.
@narutocaprirequest2 You want to go where a constitutional right gets violated by mob-rule democracy??? Please think this over. We do NOT live in a democracy. Try and find that word in any founding document. This is a Republic, where the Bill Of Rights is honored, not bullied.
muslims kill innocent people and they call it terrorism....americans imprison innocent civilians and they call patriotism...no wonder ,americans and muslims are hated in other parts of the world...and they still wonder why..
I notice that liberal weirdos posting here are conveniently forgetting to mention that someone did burn the American flag at LSU's war memorial the night we learned Bin Laden was dead. Major faux pas!
"@jaevans78 THE FLAG DOESNT GIVE US OUR RIGHTS, A CIVIL SOCIETY AND THE CONSTITUTION GIVE US OUR RIGHTS. THESE IGNORANT FUCKS SHOWED NO CIVILITY NOR ANY RESPECT FOR FREE SPEECH. WE WILL CRUSH YOU. HE DIDN'T EVEN BRING A FLAG, HE BROUGHT HIS FREE SPEECH ALONE AND YOU PEOPLE ACTED DESPICABLE" - - - - - - -
1. they were very civil. no one got hurt. they had received permission to be there.
2. they were honoring freedom of speech by speaking their minds.
no where in the constitution does it say that a venue must be provided for free speech at the expense of the government or any private person or company or organization....it only says that you can say what you want......or that the rest of us are forced to have to listen....the guy can burn the flag in his back yard if he feels the need,...and we can burn effigies of him in front of his house...iroinic that the same people who support this idiot would protest the burning of the koran...lol
@HabitualHobosexual irrelevant, he said he was going to do it,...and everyone believed that was his intention...the fact that he ended up not burning the flag is incidental because we cannot know wheather he would have if were not for the protests,...did he convienently decide to say he never intended to go through with it once he saw how many people were there in opposition?...ooopsy....which makes him even more of a coward doesnt it?
@sociallyunaceptable Notice the pictures of the speech he busted out that was "PRINTED IN COMPUTER INK" taken on that day. It doesn't take a rocket science to figure out why he called it a flag burning and never intended to actully burn a flag.
@HabitualHobosexual ...didnt see any computer ink....lol....and again....no one in that crowd had any idea that he might not have intended to actually burn the flag,...not untill he anounced it there....and they have just as much of a right to protest him as he does to "say hes going to burn the flag"....hes not the only one who is covered by the freedoms in the constitution..
@sociallyunaceptable Google the picture of his speech. You are missing the entire point. They pretty much showed how reactionary people are without even attempting to listen to what a person has to say. Reacting like a reptile (like these people), striking first and never asking questions, then neutralize any "potential threats". They care nothing about reasons, why's, or who's.
@sociallyunaceptable EXACTLY!!! See, you completely dismiss his value of a person and his beliefs, even though you have never heard a word he has said. You see something shiny like an event with a radical name that sounds super dangerous, then your brain shuts off. You are acting just like those folks. Really sad.
@HabitualHobosexual ....so in other words you have no idea what his point was....im dissmissive of him because he was intentionally being offensive,....if he wants to offend those people who have faught and died so he might have the right to say what he wants and those of us who love this country,..then he gets to hear exactly how offended they are.....what is sad is he benifits from the very freedoms that flag stands for....and you are pathetic for recognizing that reality.
@sociallyunaceptable WOW ....sorry but you are REALLY fucking stupid if you can't understand hat I just said. I mean that! WHen was the last time a war was fought to protect OUR freedoms? Sorry pal, but you are the pathetic simpleton and totally devoid of critical thought.
@HabitualHobosexual ...our freedoms are faught for everyday....shame on you for not knowing even that much.....but hey whatever.....if it makes you feel good to throw insults at me then by all means, go for it,...it only proves to everyone just how hateful you are....word of advice....if you and you flag burning ilk hate it here so much...i promise,..you wont be missed.
@sociallyunaceptable How is us invading a country that 99% of the people had no knowledge of the attacks on 9/11 and another country who posed no threat to us, no WMD's ever found, protecting our freedoms?
@HabitualHobosexual omg,...lol...your not very bright are you? ....funny comming from someone who aparently sees himself as a self important elitist.....how very myopic of you.
@HabitualHobosexual i never said any of the recent wars protect our freedoms, specifically,...that was you.....i just said our freedoms are faught for everyday....and they are....nevertheless.... muslim extremist around the workd would love to see an end to our freedom and our way of life....and we fight against attacks against those freedoms on a daily basis...if in doubt,..just burn a koran....and then watch the fallout,...and then tell me your freedom to do so is not under attack.
@sociallyunaceptable THen who is protecting our rights then, if it isn't the people went sent over there to fight wars? Where is the force that is invading our country! You mean those scary muslims and mexicans? Or those so called socialist-communists? Or those union thugs? Or gays? Or is it a woman's reproductive organs? You mean our scary teachers, firefighters, police, prison guards, nurses, water treatment, snow plow drivers, bus drivers, universities? WHo's not a so called "enemy"?
@sociallyunaceptable The only people attacking our freedoms now are ourselves. Just look around. The government can spy on it's citizens, suppress voters, sell off our assets to the lowest bidder, ridiculous airport security, sending our troops to defend corporate interests. Now us a a country can't even fucking stand each other.
@HabitualHobosexual i dont deny our freedoms are also under attack from within....they are under attack from without as well...and there are those who are fighting against those attacks in both fronts.
@HabitualHobosexual ...like i said,....no one in that cowd read his peach beforehand,..they all believed he was there to burn the flag.....and the crowd was there to protest that...he got the reaction he intended and it didnt go as he had planned,..so im not sympothetic ...i look at it this way,...if the florida pastor who got all the heat for threatening to burn the koran, just to make a point, was deserving of criticism....then ben gets the same treatment....boohoo.
@sociallyunaceptable Maybe they should stfu and listen before they react. You completely disregard his message and you defend ignorance. That's not the American way.
@sociallyunaceptable "In the name of peace, there will be no flag burning today. This country and the flag that flies over it stands for freedom, democracy, love, peace and the ability to question our government." <----portion of his speech.
@sociallyunaceptable "I feel what is missing most from the United States is a sense of community, love, and acceptance of the differences we may have about issues in the world. If I had one wish for today, it would be to make the world a more peaceful place." Point out and provide example of Americans state of mind > make them get into state of mind> while they are in state of mind, move speech into direction of opposite of advertised speech>learn a lesson.
Thanks! For the most part I agree with the majority of his speech, but I stronly disagree with the burning of the flag! There are too many other ways to protest. It gets me enraged if I see someone burning a flag as I lost an Uncle and a cousin in Nam and I come from a very long line of marines as my father was at Iwo Jima and Guadacanal in WWII.
@FloraBama Yeah, I think he called it a flag burning to get attention. Looks like he did it to show how fast people are to react without listening to the point. It seems like he had no intention of burning it and he does respect the flag and what it stands for.
There's a difference between free speech and vandalizing our flag which symbolizes our freedom of speech. WTF! Where do they grow these people? If they don't respect the flag, they have no respect for our country. Let them move to the Middle East and see what freedoms they have there. If you want to burn our flag, wrap yourself in it first! Semper Fi!!!!
@HabitualHobosexual Pff Violence between Americans when someone acts like a dumbass is a tradition as old as the nation. Traitors like him deserve no rights. They should be hung for treason. The fact is this: if you support traitors and terrorists you are a legitiment target of whatever abuse or violence can be dealt out in many peoples minds so fair warning. You never know when a normally just angry patriot will snap and fucking kill you...just saying...
@HabitualHobosexual prove what point? that when you tell everyone you are going to burn an american flag it nearly gets you put on a stretcher? Yeah, really well-thought out by Mr. Haas...Not
@mikellasa w w w (dot) lsureveille (dot) com/tdr-exclusive-transcript-of-benjamin-haas-speech-1.2562035 <---his speech. If you and everyone else there weren't so fucking stupid and actually listened to him you might have learned something. Maybe people should stop acting like reptiles.
@HabitualHobosexual And by the looks of the video if he had tried their would have been a riot and he might have ended up dead, cops or no cops.......
@mikesternberg Yeah and that's the embarrassing part as an American to see this blind patriotism without listening to what the person has to say. Just like a reptile....attack attack attack. Really sad. I love this land and I love the people when you get them one on one. But groups like this, blood thirsty and blind rage, god it's just pathetic. Nothing to be proud about in this video.
@HabitualHobosexual It's not blind patriotism I see here. Just a normal reaction to the actions of a complete asshole. They knew his message in advance"America is never right". So fuck him. I say next time throw water ballons again...... just freeze them first! HA HA HA
YOU CAN'T RUN HIPPIE!!!

This reminds me of the book "Lord of the Flies" how they all circle him and chant. Similar to the chant in the book "kill the pig slit its throat." That boy has the right to burn the flag (not a stolen flag) because thats the freedom our fore fathers fought for.
FutureVideos2013 9 months ago 8
@FutureVideos2013 How does burning a flag translate to freedom of speech? These people have just as much right to counter protest. This is obviously a provacative statement in some (good) parts of the country. Well done LSU.
Kaltwasser45 9 months ago
@Kaltwasser45 "How does burning a flag translate to freedom of speech?"
Well, as decided by the 1989 case "Texas Vs Johnson," the SCOTUS concluded that "Under the circumstances, Johnson's burning of the flag constituted expressive conduct, permitting him to invoke the First Amendment... Occurring as it did at the end of a demonstration..... the expressive, overtly political nature of the conduct was both intentional and overwhelmingly apparent"
Essentially Flag Burning= freedom of expression
AndrewDeLong 9 months ago

Kaltwasser45 9 months ago

@LIVE7STRONG Apparently you don't have the mindset that it's a fucking cloth flag that is produced in thousands by the day. If he wants to buy a 99 cent flag and burn it, let him do it. And if you did show up to try and stop him, you're a bigger moron than the guy that was going to burn the flag for giving him what he wants.

And if there is any contention on who the Founders would have supported in this sort of case, remember who John Adams supported in the Boston Massacre case. He supported the British soldiers against the mob. People have rights, and they must be protected. Mob rule is not acceptable.
PhiloAmericana 9 months ago

@PhiloAmericana "He has a right to freedom of speech, you do not have the right not to be offended." Try again.
EyeinTeaJay 9 months ago
His right to free speech does not mean he has a right to be heard. It does not mean that while he exercises his free speech rights, others with opposing views will not make it more difficult for him to express himself. He chose not to burn the flag; no one told him he could not. Although I think he made a wise decision, it was still his decision to make. Even with free speech there is a responsibility that comes with it. I have a right to bear arms, but that does not mean I can have any gun.
EyeinTeaJay 9 months ago
@EyeinTeaJay There were people in the crowd shouting to hurt this young individual. This is not okay. It's a clear violation of the law. This was not a counter-protest, this was an attempt at mob lynching.
PhiloAmericana 9 months ago
@PhiloAmericana This individual knew going in to this that there could be an unfavorable reaction from the crowd. Whereas I do not condone violence, it does not mean it does not exist. Mr. Haas made the decision to place himself in this situation, and wisely made the decision not to carry out his moronic display.
EyeinTeaJay 9 months ago
@EyeinTeaJay He has a right to do what he did. He should expect the protection of his rights, not fear of a mob. He a a right to speak freely, and he has been told by his country since the time of his birth that he is allowed to do so without fear of harm of hindrance. The fact that the mob set out to challenge his rights, and to harm this human being reflects badly upon them. The ones who called out to harm him should be arrested and prosecuted.
PhiloAmericana 9 months ago
@PhiloAmericana The "mob" was just demonstarting their right to freedom of speech and expression. Just because they called for violence does not mean they were going to actually do it. They were just freely expressing themselves.
EyeinTeaJay 9 months ago
@EyeinTeaJay You cannot direct a mob towards violence. That is against the law.
PhiloAmericana 9 months ago
@EyeinTeaJay Your argument is analogous to blaming a rape victim because she was dressed in an unseemly manner. The woman has a right to dress how she pleases in a free society, the rapist has no right to give in to his emotion and break the laws. In the same way, this person has a right to speak freely, whether extreme in nature or not. The mob has no right to call for violence, and to attempt to harm this person.
PhiloAmericana 9 months ago
@PhiloAmericana I wont make the mistake of going back and forth with you on this, we both have our opinions on this matter, and neither will change. I am glad that these students stood up for their country and their flag, and I hope this is a growing trend. Freedom of speech does not mean you can go in to a crowded theater and yell fire.
EyeinTeaJay 9 months ago
@EyeinTeaJay They didn't stand up for their country. They actively contradicted the principles of our constitution, and undermined our collective freedoms. Freedom of speech means that the most extreme views can be expressed so long as they are not directing or advocating violence against the country. This young man may have wanted to burn a flag out of whatever grievance he may of had over our foreign policy, but that is not against the law. He is well within his right to do so.
PhiloAmericana 9 months ago
@PhiloAmericana not true,...while the guy has a right to burn the flag,...that right does not absolve him of criticism for it...and everyone who was there to protest him have the right to speek thier minds, as well,...free speech isnt a one way thing, he can say what he wants,..but we dont have to like it....sorry but your a dufus....i doubt you would be as sympothetic if it were the Westboro baptist church burning the flag.
sociallyunaceptable 9 months ago
@sociallyunaceptable Actually, I support the free speech of all parties involved. What I do not support is those in the mob calling for the mob to act in a violent manner. That is clearly against the law. As I said, they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
PhiloAmericana 9 months ago
@PhiloAmericana he was not harmed at all....so they only prosicuite actual crimes....not hypothetical ones....and what of the angry union mobs in wisconson?...and the mobs who protested the irac war....or the mobs who protested prop 8 in california?...etc etc....everyone has a cause....and no one is above getting angry over what they percieve to be an injustice.
sociallyunaceptable 9 months ago
@sociallyunaceptable Calling a mob to violence is an actual crime. It is strictly illegal. Being angry is one thing, calling for violence is another.
PhiloAmericana 9 months ago
@PhiloAmericana tell that to the black pathers and the eco terroists...and the union protestors...untill then i doubt you see a prosicution for any of these people for being pro america..
sociallyunaceptable 9 months ago
@EyeinTeaJay On the other hand, they had no right to do what they did, as it was clearly contrary to the law. You have absolutely no right to call a mob to violence. That's not just a violation of the law, it very severely challenges the freedom of our citizenry. They should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. They must be made an example of. You cannot act in a way that will limit the freedom of your fellow citizens. It's not acceptable.

The Whole Story:
Just hours after the news of Osama bin Laden’s death, an American flag was stolen and found burned on the LSU campus. The flag had been flying at LSU's War Memorial for the past two years. LSU Police have arrested the man Isaac Eslava, 23, who turned himself to LSU police on charges of theft and arson. On wednesday graduate student Benjamin Haas had planned to burn an American flag in response to the arrest of Isaac Eslava. This video shows the student counterprotest

HabitualHobosexual 9 months ago
@mrl3817 THAT'S NOT THE WHOLE STORY. look, i don't fully get what Ben was after, but his explanation of what he was doing is pretty simple and non-offensive. his argument was that student affairs should be kept to college jurisdiction and not given over to the police (i'm not sure if i agree or not, that's not the point) and also that all should be assured due process so that WE'RE ALL safe (as you would want if you were wrongly accused). why he wanted to burn a flag i'm not sure...

I agree with you it is not completely a right (yet) but my point still stands...his liberties were impeded because the counter protesters stopped him from completing his own protest. Any way you look at it the mob decided what took place and that is not what I fought for in the military. One dictator or a mob of them you can't take away another's liberty with just because there are more of you.
staticelf 9 months ago
@staticelf: I'm having great doubt that you are ex-military. While an education in the public school system would account for the glaring lack of Constitutional knowledge you've demonstrated, I cannot see anyone getting out of the military with no knowledge of civics and the workings of our government. There is just NO SUCH LAW, Constitutional or otherwise, which prohibits a mob of protesters from shouting down an opponent they disagree with. If there is, name the article.
4YHVHdaughter 9 months ago
@staticelf Your point does NOT stand anywhere except in your own dillusions. No one was arrested because no laws were broken. A mob of citizens is NOT legally prohibited from exercising free speech, any more than any one individual is. If you fought for silencing mobs of American citizens in the military then you did so with a complete misunderstanding of what our rights are.
4YHVHdaughter 9 months ago
To be clear I have no issue with counter protesting...I really support it actually as it shows both sides but the second you impede or attempt to stop those with another opinion you have infringed on their right to gather and protest.
staticelf 9 months ago
Why were the student protesters not arrested then? If someone's rights were infringed upon, why wasn't someone arrested? You have little to know knowledge at all what our rights even are.
4YHVHdaughter 9 months ago
Awww does this make you feel smart Daughter? We don't need to hear a regurgitated bias poli sci course. Since you see it that way gather up your friends for the prez elections and make sure no one votes for the candidate you oppose at the local poll...and while you are at it any business owner you don't agree with their views just keep people from going into his place...can you see where this is going.
staticelf 9 months ago
@YHVHDaughter if our peers can stop us from protesting which is our right what about other rights like voting...let's get a few thugs to guard the polls and keep out the people we don't agree with. As an american soldier it hurts to see flag burning but I have fought and watched my friends die in war so that we are free to express our anger with the government without being bullied. -1LT Leland Gross (research Hitler's Brown Shirts who used your "peers can stop this" approach)
staticelf 9 months ago
@staticelf: While certain amendments regarding voting have been added, the Constitution itself does not implicitly guarantee a right to vote. If it does then one would have to explain the rationale for Jesse Jackson's 2005 proposal, HJR 28.
4YHVHdaughter 9 months ago
@staticelf In regards to peer pressure, obviously peer pressure took a more menacing form under a ruthless Dictatorialship than it does in a functioning Republic. Aside from hurt pride, the Republic prevented harm from coming to flag-burner. There's no fair comparison btwn student patriots and Hitler's brown shirts. No Dictator ordered students to protest & there was no indication that protesters intended to use any force other than free (albeit harsh) speech to deter the flag-burner.

no where in the constitution does it say that a venue must be provided for free speech at the expense of the government or any private person or company or organization....it only says that you can say what you want......or that the rest of us are forced to have to listen....the guy can burn the flag in his back yard if he feels the need,...and we can burn effigies of him in front of his house...iroinic that the same people who support this idiot would protest the burning of the koran...lol
sociallyunaceptable 9 months ago
@sociallyunaceptable The difference being, this guy never intended to burn the flag.
HabitualHobosexual 9 months ago
@HabitualHobosexual irrelevant, he said he was going to do it,...and everyone believed that was his intention...the fact that he ended up not burning the flag is incidental because we cannot know wheather he would have if were not for the protests,...did he convienently decide to say he never intended to go through with it once he saw how many people were there in opposition?...ooopsy....which makes him even more of a coward doesnt it?
sociallyunaceptable 9 months ago
@sociallyunaceptable Notice the pictures of the speech he busted out that was "PRINTED IN COMPUTER INK" taken on that day. It doesn't take a rocket science to figure out why he called it a flag burning and never intended to actully burn a flag.
HabitualHobosexual 9 months ago
@HabitualHobosexual ...didnt see any computer ink....lol....and again....no one in that crowd had any idea that he might not have intended to actually burn the flag,...not untill he anounced it there....and they have just as much of a right to protest him as he does to "say hes going to burn the flag"....hes not the only one who is covered by the freedoms in the constitution..
sociallyunaceptable 9 months ago
@sociallyunaceptable Google the picture of his speech. You are missing the entire point. They pretty much showed how reactionary people are without even attempting to listen to what a person has to say. Reacting like a reptile (like these people), striking first and never asking questions, then neutralize any "potential threats". They care nothing about reasons, why's, or who's.
HabitualHobosexual 9 months ago
@HabitualHobosexual enlighten me,...what was his point?....and why should anyone give a hoot what this idiot has to say?
sociallyunaceptable 9 months ago
@sociallyunaceptable EXACTLY!!! See, you completely dismiss his value of a person and his beliefs, even though you have never heard a word he has said. You see something shiny like an event with a radical name that sounds super dangerous, then your brain shuts off. You are acting just like those folks. Really sad.
HabitualHobosexual 9 months ago
@HabitualHobosexual ....so in other words you have no idea what his point was....im dissmissive of him because he was intentionally being offensive,....if he wants to offend those people who have faught and died so he might have the right to say what he wants and those of us who love this country,..then he gets to hear exactly how offended they are.....what is sad is he benifits from the very freedoms that flag stands for....and you are pathetic for recognizing that reality.
sociallyunaceptable 9 months ago
@sociallyunaceptable correction : and you are pathetic for "not" recognizing that reality...
sociallyunaceptable 9 months ago
@sociallyunaceptable WOW ....sorry but you are REALLY fucking stupid if you can't understand hat I just said. I mean that! WHen was the last time a war was fought to protect OUR freedoms? Sorry pal, but you are the pathetic simpleton and totally devoid of critical thought.
HabitualHobosexual 9 months ago
@HabitualHobosexual ...our freedoms are faught for everyday....shame on you for not knowing even that much.....but hey whatever.....if it makes you feel good to throw insults at me then by all means, go for it,...it only proves to everyone just how hateful you are....word of advice....if you and you flag burning ilk hate it here so much...i promise,..you wont be missed.
sociallyunaceptable 9 months ago
@sociallyunaceptable How is us invading a country that 99% of the people had no knowledge of the attacks on 9/11 and another country who posed no threat to us, no WMD's ever found, protecting our freedoms?
HabitualHobosexual 9 months ago
@HabitualHobosexual omg,...lol...your not very bright are you? ....funny comming from someone who aparently sees himself as a self important elitist.....how very myopic of you.
sociallyunaceptable 9 months ago
@sociallyunaceptable LoL and you call me an elitist without a basis. And you fail to provide an answer to how any of that "protects" our freedoms.
HabitualHobosexual 9 months ago
@HabitualHobosexual I'm curious. Where are you getting the letter from? I'd love to read it in full.
PhiloAmericana 9 months ago
@PhiloAmericana Google; "The Daily Reveille Transcript of Benjamin Haas' speech"
HabitualHobosexual 9 months ago
@HabitualHobosexual i never said any of the recent wars protect our freedoms, specifically,...that was you.....i just said our freedoms are faught for everyday....and they are....nevertheless.... muslim extremist around the workd would love to see an end to our freedom and our way of life....and we fight against attacks against those freedoms on a daily basis...if in doubt,..just burn a koran....and then watch the fallout,...and then tell me your freedom to do so is not under attack.
sociallyunaceptable 9 months ago
@sociallyunaceptable THen who is protecting our rights then, if it isn't the people went sent over there to fight wars? Where is the force that is invading our country! You mean those scary muslims and mexicans? Or those so called socialist-communists? Or those union thugs? Or gays? Or is it a woman's reproductive organs? You mean our scary teachers, firefighters, police, prison guards, nurses, water treatment, snow plow drivers, bus drivers, universities? WHo's not a so called "enemy"?
HabitualHobosexual 9 months ago
@sociallyunaceptable The only people attacking our freedoms now are ourselves. Just look around. The government can spy on it's citizens, suppress voters, sell off our assets to the lowest bidder, ridiculous airport security, sending our troops to defend corporate interests. Now us a a country can't even fucking stand each other.
HabitualHobosexual 9 months ago
@HabitualHobosexual i dont deny our freedoms are also under attack from within....they are under attack from without as well...and there are those who are fighting against those attacks in both fronts.
sociallyunaceptable 9 months ago
@sociallyunaceptable And why don't you READ his speech!!! If you do you'll find how high regard he holds for what it stands for.
HabitualHobosexual 9 months ago
@HabitualHobosexual ...like i said,....no one in that cowd read his peach beforehand,..they all believed he was there to burn the flag.....and the crowd was there to protest that...he got the reaction he intended and it didnt go as he had planned,..so im not sympothetic ...i look at it this way,...if the florida pastor who got all the heat for threatening to burn the koran, just to make a point, was deserving of criticism....then ben gets the same treatment....boohoo.
sociallyunaceptable 9 months ago
@sociallyunaceptable Maybe they should stfu and listen before they react. You completely disregard his message and you defend ignorance. That's not the American way.
HabitualHobosexual 9 months ago
@sociallyunaceptable "In the name of peace, there will be no flag burning today. This country and the flag that flies over it stands for freedom, democracy, love, peace and the ability to question our government." <----portion of his speech.
HabitualHobosexual 9 months ago
@sociallyunaceptable "I feel what is missing most from the United States is a sense of community, love, and acceptance of the differences we may have about issues in the world. If I had one wish for today, it would be to make the world a more peaceful place." Point out and provide example of Americans state of mind > make them get into state of mind> while they are in state of mind, move speech into direction of opposite of advertised speech>learn a lesson.

@HabitualHobosexual
FloraBama 9 months ago
@FloraBama Yeah, I think he called it a flag burning to get attention. Looks like he did it to show how fast people are to react without listening to the point. It seems like he had no intention of burning it and he does respect the flag and what it stands for.
HabitualHobosexual 9 months ago
@FloraBama yes, i agree. as a Bama fan, for the first time in my life i had to shout with enthusiasm "LSU!!"
damnyancey 9 months ago 2
There's a difference between free speech and vandalizing our flag which symbolizes our freedom of speech. WTF! Where do they grow these people? If they don't respect the flag, they have no respect for our country. Let them move to the Middle East and see what freedoms they have there. If you want to burn our flag, wrap yourself in it first! Semper Fi!!!!
MrNYCman530 9 months ago
@MrNYCman530 He never had the intention of burning the flag.
HabitualHobosexual 9 months ago
I suggest when a person try's to burn the flag and you are angry about it do this:
1. Tell them you want to "help"...
2, Get a bucket of gasoline...
3. When they light the flag "accidently" spill the gas all over them and burn them alive..
4. Claim it was a tragic accident and then go get pizza, hippie dead and problem solved!
mikesternberg 9 months ago 4
@mikesternberg WoW so you are calling for violence against fellow Americans? You sound like a fucking terrorist.
HabitualHobosexual 9 months ago
@HabitualHobosexual Pff Violence between Americans when someone acts like a dumbass is a tradition as old as the nation. Traitors like him deserve no rights. They should be hung for treason. The fact is this: if you support traitors and terrorists you are a legitiment target of whatever abuse or violence can be dealt out in many peoples minds so fair warning. You never know when a normally just angry patriot will snap and fucking kill you...just saying...
mikesternberg 9 months ago
@mikesternberg He was never going to burn the flag. He said he was to prove a point, and he did.
HabitualHobosexual 9 months ago
@HabitualHobosexual prove what point? that when you tell everyone you are going to burn an american flag it nearly gets you put on a stretcher? Yeah, really well-thought out by Mr. Haas...Not

@mikellasa w w w (dot) lsureveille (dot) com/tdr-exclusive-transcript-of-benjamin-haas-speech-1.2562035 <---his speech. If you and everyone else there weren't so fucking stupid and actually listened to him you might have learned something. Maybe people should stop acting like reptiles.
HabitualHobosexual 9 months ago
@HabitualHobosexual And by the looks of the video if he had tried their would have been a riot and he might have ended up dead, cops or no cops.......
mikesternberg 9 months ago
@mikesternberg Yeah and that's the embarrassing part as an American to see this blind patriotism without listening to what the person has to say. Just like a reptile....attack attack attack. Really sad. I love this land and I love the people when you get them one on one. But groups like this, blood thirsty and blind rage, god it's just pathetic. Nothing to be proud about in this video.
HabitualHobosexual 9 months ago
@HabitualHobosexual It's not blind patriotism I see here. Just a normal reaction to the actions of a complete asshole. They knew his message in advance"America is never right". So fuck him. I say next time throw water ballons again...... just freeze them first! HA HA HA
