I think you speak very wise words, but how can you be so sure there is something after death? Everything you say seems so objective and scientific, except for this view. I mean how can you possibly know?
These talks are very useful and clear. How freedom in the moment can be cultivated is explained well.By developing letting go moment to moment(mindfully), not perpetuating the conditioned realm, there is peace. The death awareness Buddha taught is the key. It is a true joy to live in the light of death. By letting go ( not grasping) the good/ bad/neutral, mind's tendency to dichotomise isn't reinforced. We understand where we are in the process. No grasping no self. No birth, no death. Only peace.
you are my teacher and i respect and believe all things you say. But sometimes i wonder why you seem so quiet, peaceful etc.. without the sort of happiness and smiling i see with other monks. Do you think their high spirit and happy look is wrong? I practice everything you teach and you are responsible for making me a Buddhist and wanting to become a monk. Thank you so much yuttadhammo
Hi Jack your post about narrow mindedness got me to thinking...
As I understand it an important part of why a Buddhist monk studies the Dharma is to free all sentient beings from suffering.Part of this study might necessitate looking with a focussed/narrow mind in order to penetrate a tangled causal web and come up with solutions for people to apply in their daily lives
When one talks of an open mind what does one really mean?
In my whole youtube viewing history, this is probably the most important and informative video I have viewed. Thank you very much yutta dhammo for this priceless gem!
ive been meaning to say this for a long time. I love your videos and your explanation of the Dharma , but I find it so hard to believe some times what a conservative, close minded and sometimes mean spirited person you can be with people who dont agree with your world view. should you not as a monk try to be more compassionate and open minded?
Express you point of view but please refrain from passing so much judgement on people who do not agree with you.
@Jackthemeat I'm not sure what you are refering to, but certainly, I am not perfect, and I accept that I should try to be more compassionate and open-minded all the time. May you be happy.
Hi Yutta Dhammo, I really enjoyed this video it was very thought provoking, it is surprising how many people ignore the fact that they will die one day. I do think about my own death as morbid as it sounds, but in a constructive way (if thats possible) because it fuels my motivation to be better than I was yesterday, do good things and be a good Buddhist so that my actions do not harm the reputation of fellow Buddhists. I hope you are well and settling into your new home well, take care, Scott.
When we sleep, our brain is still functioning but lack consciousness. A computer that is power off is still working but it is unable to respond to data feeding or processing data. A computer require electrons to constantly flow in the machine to give it the intelligence and sensitivity to respond to command. Likewise our human body require some form of energy flow to be conscious. That energy in our body could be the soul that people are talking about.~~sharing my thoughts

great explanation to "attachments." I also read different books of Deepak Chopra which explains death similarly...

There is no such thing as death of conciousness, only death of the physical body.
