For my part, one of the best from Patrick, like what he did in this period on "River Gonna Rise", mostly catchy until "Trust" and "Crying Freeman" around the nineties. He became much more ambient afterwards. Great, thanks
First time I listened to this album, I just completed buying over 2 years of a comic titled "Howar Chaykin's American Flagg!", for some odd reason the music seemed to fit the story as though it were a soundtrack. This music also works with independents like "Mister X" etc.
I love Mr. O'Hearns music, Ive been a fan since 1988 when I lived in Washington state. Perfect enviornment for this kind of music. Try Kitaro and Andreas Vollenweider also.
I bought this album, (cassette) when it was first released back in 1988. I've been a fan of Patrick O'Hearn ever since ..... glad to see so many video/music on this site. Every video blends in with Mr. O'Hearn's creative sound. Thanks for posting this one!
I was living in Seattle, listening to KNUA Smooth Jazz in 88 when thi came out...reminds me of sitting on the patio of Salty's Redondo Beach cafe at sunset, they would have this music playing outside, drinking fuzzy navels with my French girlfriend, Babette..wonderful music, wonderful memories....
Patrick O'Hearn was a Blessing that I almost tripped over. His musik is so relaxing and I call it driving long trips musik to play. Me first album that I heard was "Open Mind"
I haven't heard this music, or the artist in such a long time. I loved the cd, River's Gonna Rise. The best instrumental music I've ever heard. While most of my high school classmates were listening to the likes of Talking Heads, Thompson Twins, I was listening to this, Hiroshima, Michael Manring, etc.
Yes, I know, "River's Gonna Rise" was released for a very short time. Probably not his most popular album, but essential to anyone collecting all his 80's albums. I found it used, thank God.
I liked Patrick O'Hearn and Yanni, both from the Private Music catalog. Too me, Patrick O'Hearn is deeper and bassier, where as Yanni, was tinnier. But yet, Yanni became more popular in the end. I still can't figure out why.
Patrick O'Hearn's music had a really healing effect on me in the mid 80s... there was so much talk about it being New Age but to me it was more jazz fusion and exceptionally good studio work and musical transitions... absolutely mellifluous.
Whoops. I made a mistake and said it was the first time I heard this song when there's a comment that I just found from about 2 months ago. I guess I forgot about it when I made this comment from 4 days ago. Sorry about that.
First time I heard this particular song from Patrick O'Hearn. And, it's very good. I noticed right near the end of it, the tune sounds very similar to the tune of Homeward Bound (the Patrick O'Hearn song, not the movie). Anyone else notice the similar sound? Excellent song!
Yes. August 1988 was the first time I heard this song. It only took me 21 years to know who and what song it was called. I've purchase 7 of Patrick O'Hearns CD's since. Great!!
i think it was the same for me also; i also fondly remember his Homeward Bound and April Fool tracks used with the TV broadcast of the Tour De Trump bicycles races; i've transferred all my cd's to my ipod and have enjoyed re listening to O'Hearn's music- it timeless

The Weather channel. Patrick O'Hearn does alot of tunes for it.
It is interesting to note that Patrick O'Hearn was in the early 80's band Missing Persons with Terry and Dale Bozzio.

I believe it was Mark Isham who did the trumpet.

Was this song on TWC at one time or another? It sounds vaguely familiar.
Dac719 3 years ago
As with the song Irene, I'm not sure if it was played on the TWC. It always reminds of my lonely car drives on Interstate 68 West.
