In this situation it is locked onto a target on the motor grader and talks via a radio link to accurately tell the computer in the grader the location of its cutting edge. The grader operator can switch on an automatic valve system and the computer will adjust the blade as he drives to get an accurate cut. Tolerance with this system is generally within 5mm at ranges up to 150meters.
