Obama/Ron Paul for VP...That's an interesting concept. There are some pretty major differences in some areas...but the feel the same about many of the most important issues (like Iraq...and Nafta...and the patriot act) and it would sure show people that we were willing to compromise with one another. There are some pretty major differences in some areas...but the feel the same about many of the most important issues (like Iraq...and Nafta...and the patriot act) and it would sure show people that we were willing to compromise with one another. I'm an Obama supporter and I've had a lot of issues with Ron Paul....but I think I like that idea.

In that context though, I could agree with you in the sense that fringe groups strongly hold onto the idea that any attack on a black man running president is racism. If you notice, Obama seemed shocked about what Rev. Wright really stood for, and was shocked that he would speak out and disrespect all he's trying to achieve. Obama shows time and time again, like with his unrepentant terrorist co-worker, that he gives people the benefit of the doubt, who maybe he really shouldn't. The main type of people who are upset with Obama's associations, or the main type of people who find this an important character/judgement issue are moderates and conservatives. Polls show that Hillary wins with those two groups within the Democratic party. And Republicans definitely find his associations disturbing. It's just a different set of values, like being pro-choice or pro-life. These things really do matter to many people.
