  • Perfect example of how AGW (climate and weather events) can ruin people's lives, but so-called conservatives only want to talk about taxation and other surface issues.

  • uno dei miei romanzi preferiti! Bellissimo anche il film...con il grande -e quindi...sottovalutato!- John Carradine!

  • me granny slept in a bed with 13brothers and sisters picked cotton and ate potato WATER soup and lived out of a TAR paper tent ! following the cotton to california from nebraska ...that sent me here !

  • Just change the scenario and you have today.

Change to great recesion, mexican immigrants, and new climate change

plus Right screaming socailism, welfare cheats, 53%

    and there you go!

  • We still haven't learned from the mistakes of the past. We buy on credit, we over produce and we listen to corrupt politicians. Maybe it's best compared to drinking or smoking . We know it's bad for us , but we keep doing it anyway.

  • I created a blog a few days ago and I was expecting to create a space in which people could express their feelings and opinions about "books".The first book I chose, to have people giving opinions about it was "the fall" by Albert Camus .The blog is : enrugados.blogspot.com. As a passioned follower of John Steinbeck as I'm sure you're too, we could create there a group of people willing to remember him in all is greatness and expose our opinions not only about his books, but also "all the others"

  • I THANK GOD THAT I CAN GET HELP FROM HIM TO INCREASE MY FININCES BY INVESTING IN HIS WORK. TITHING WITH AN HONEST HEART BRINGS BLESSINGS.BUT THE ONLY BLESSINGS I CARE TO HAVE ARE THOSE I CAN PASS ON TO OTHER PEOPLE WHO ARE IN NEED.

  • @ljchristmutuallife why are you yelling at us?

  • I hope our moral Okies heed this warning and clean out the corrupt filled henhouse or this state may end up there again. I must also add, I hope most people are aware of the mini-drought has been here this year....

  • The true villain of the story is the American banking system and how it ruined these people's lives. And here we are, almost 80 years later, and we still haven't learned how to keep the banks from destroying our lives and our livelihood.

  • @redSG Totally agree. And it doesnt only in America. It's a worldwide problem. We are their slaves.

  • Steinbecks work is not just history ..it's economic/ sociology/ maorality....Should be more widely read.

  • Man! those poor saps sure had fun huh?

  • The universal law that defines man is the inherent desire to grow and get better. Thank you, John Steinbeck.

  • What about the 400 ,000 + farm taken by the fucking banks ?

  • @luc649 THEY WERE JUST GONE!!!!! hee hee The ex-owners could just eat shit!!!

  • @luc649 They didn't mention giant agri-bus corps either.

  • people are dying of hunger everyday (i beleive), much disposations is going on, and yet one book gets the credit????? This is still going on, not exacly a dust bowl and the scenrio of the grapes of wrath, but many are still dying and suffering, immigrating ect. it's not foreign. I know steinbeck did a good job as a writter, but what the hell. people should read his books, then what?? we all learn individually.

  • I read the book and it is a real work of art. They were destituted by faceless, corporative banks that seized their lands. This novel foretells the dehumanization of the capitalist world.

  • Probably far too late for any one to read this comment, however I shall comment. I think that we are now witnessing "Grapes of Wrath" 2.0 in the Gulf. Different time, different cause. Outcome the same only times 10.

  • our government penalizes farmers that grow food. they want to control the food sources here. Signs along california hiways say "welcome to the dust bowl California made" My moms family lived in the areas where the dust bowl was in those old days, it was horrible. They were really poor, descriminated against and had to start over...but they made it.Thank God

  • I read the Grapes of Wrath when I was 14 and was outraged at the indifference to human suffering. Fifty years later I am still outraged but so tired.

  • I love this movie. I think old school movies beat all of the modern ones. Such as this one, Glory, and many more.

  • Every politician in DC should be required to watch the movie before taking office, then they would know what people that have to work for a living go through

  • One of John Carradine's few good guy roles. He was great as Casey.

  • RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE

  • A classic poetic protest against indifference and the struggle for decency.

  • i am just reading it, its great, what he wrote then is true now, he felt the bankers are monsters causing farmers to leave the land, same now , bankers are forcing people from their homes!!!

  • What dose Obama have to do with this video? What happened to these people is horrible and you shouldn't use their tragedy as a way to channel your negative and hateful beliefs.

  • Obama didn't cheapen anything. He didn't ask for that. Give it a rest.

  • Too bad Obama cheapened the Nobel Prize...

    It means NOTHING now.

  • LJD25......You are an imbecile. The Nobel prize isn't good enough for Obama.

Your boyfriend George Bush is rat puke compared to Obama. Your rat puke heroes Bush and Cheney ruined everything.....started two wars they couldn't finish, destroyed the economy, destroyed the american image worldwide and are inarguably the worst president and vice president in american history. they suck and YOU suck. You tea bagger cretin.

  • @TeenCretin just wanted to say that not everyone who disagrees with Obama loves Bush and Cheney....just sayin....there are people who see things in a completely different way from the major parties.....maybe we could start listening to them a little more?

  • @MrsSarb NO......independants are usually right-wingers that are too extreme to join the Republicans, BUT THEY ALWAYS VOTE REPUBLICAN. THEY SUCK AND ARE WORSE THAN THE REPUBLICANS.

  • @TeenCretin hahaha I'm one of those people.....I don't think they are worse. I think they make a lot of sense.

  • @MrsSarb yer just a marginalized nutcake looking for attention. If you were a little smarter and a little more comp[assionate, you'd vote democrat. AND THAT GOES FOR ALL OF YOU REPUBLICAN CREEPS.

  • @TeenCretin nah.....you're naive.....do you realize that the Roosevelt administration had those people destroying the crops while people were starving to death? THAT'S cold-hearted

  • @MrsSarb , you ignorant slut, I googled "Roosevelt administration destroyed crops" and what do you think came up?? Articles from ultra right-wing groups like the Cato institute and/or articles from ultra conservative religious/political nutball groups. I know who you are now...yer an ignorant, propaganda swallowing, teabagging, right wing bitch. Please go fuck yourself.

  • @TeenCretin Your name-calling insults are completely uncalled for. If you cannot have an intelligent debate, then please just keep your opinions to yourself. Name calling gets no one anywhere. I simply have a different point of view. Sheesh. Get a life.

  • @MrsSarb Teabag my nuts, conserva-cunt.

  • @TeenCretin

You seem like a very angry and deranged person.

Let me guess you support Obama

  • @CSATexan Good guess, genius. Are all you Texans this smart? And yes, I am angry. I'm angry because this country has been ruined by a small group of greedy little pricks who work for the super rich and have fucked up america to the point that even a black man with an islamic name could get elected president. That's how bad you republican assholes fucked up everything. And I do support Obama because I'm not a racist and he's 5 trillion times smarter than any republican out there.

  • @TeenCretin

In other words your a political hack with little interest in the future of the US. Which goes back to why do you care?

Oh and don't try to out shit talk me, rest assure that I am a lot better at it.

  • @CSATexan This Yankee says hoo-rah for Texas.

  • @CSATexan This Yankee says hoo-rah for Texas!

  • @bbdupon

    Thanks bro

  • The picture at 1:03 was taken just 10 miles from my home in CA and where my Grandpa ended up. He came from TX in 1934. He had a 2lb bag of raisins and a loaf of bread for the week long trip, hopping a frieght train and riding in a boxcar all the way to CA. Listening to his stories makes me thankful for the simple things in life and when I think times are hard I just remember it was Grandpa who had it hard.

  • Hi! I am french and I must write what this man tall. Can you help me?

  • I have read nearly all of Steinbeck's Novels, and my favorites would have to be East of Eden, The Winter of our Discontent, and The Grapes of Wrath. Great Author.

  • Bad farming practises? Massive dust storms and bad economic times? Well we have a global economic crisies and here in Australia we have just had the biggest dust storm I have ever seen in 51 years of living. And, the only other dust storm I have ever seen was 4 months ago. Here we have been having a drought for 8/9 years. Bad farming practises, well that goes with out saying. Ain't much changed is there?

  • That refers to drylandfarming in the middle west, where the harrowing in milelong rows crumbeled the soil and let to just that sand storms.

Michener describes it in his book and movie Colorado Saga.

  • One of the greatest works. But I still think East of Eden was better :D

  • Tortillia Flats

  • Yes.

  • Tom, and Chris are my very close cousins, and growing up with them around, I never fully realized how famous The Grapes Of Wrath actually were. huh.

  • hi everyone i need a little help.....where can i get the book on audio, for free? i have to read the book for school and well i only have 2 weeks... please if anyone knows please tell...!!!! thank you

  • The title "the Grapes of Wrath" was taken from the lyrics of the "Battle Hymn of the Republic" on the advice of Steinbeck's wife.

  • i like steinbeck pretty much. my favoturite is tortilla flat...

  • yes I agree that was the best one, but they are all great. The Grapes of Wrath was a non-stop sermon

  • I have red some of the Steinbeck's masterpieces.

    He is great!

    Cheers from italy

  • What a wonderful book. The glow of the human spirit. What a tribute.

    Linda

  • i live down the street from his home that stands in memory. i at times live his words growing up in the very same city as he did durring NeW stressing, an anxiest times here in what is now known as The $alad BowL, Cali

  • Very important piece of modern history.

  • Steinbeck is the best writer ever.

  • YES.

  • Moving, thoughtful, heartbreaking. This novel changed the way I live my life.

  • i think this was the only book I've ever cried while reading. Very powerful, and makes you appreciate every meal you have.

  • @lilvjdude and it's just so well-written! you can't help but appreciate the people who were willing to fight for these people.

  • @lilvjdude You need to read more. Make no mistake, GW is a great book, but should hardly stand alone in producing emotion.

  • I remember back in my freshman year I was forced to read Grapes of Wrath. I thought it was going to suck.

It didn't. It was a really good read and it gives you an idea of the hardships these people faced.

  • yo this was a very good book. im a freshman, and after reading the grapes of wrath, i fuckin thought about alotta shit differently.

  • Grapes of Wrath - THE greatest american NOVEL - Hemingway can't touch him!!!!!! Cannery Row, Sweet Thursday, Of Mice and Men, East of Eden, books everyone should know!!!!!

    Thanks for posting...

  • Another Story would be Tabacco road.

  • I finally saw this movie today. I felt some of the lines at the start were alluding to how they weren't the first people pushed off their land and how much it hurt. Great movie

  • They should ramke this movie about the family being tossed out their homes by the sub-prime cryisis

  • This book was written 70 years ago, but its ideals are live today when we have again an era of absolute capitalist exploitation

  • I love Steinbeck , everybody should read his books , im french and i love this author , a great american writer.

  • Totally agree with you. I'm italian and reading Stainbeck I can find the same situation of these days about banks and the poors.

    A big person.

    Furore is my first book

  • This film and book should be reqired reading and viewing in EVERY school to show how lucky we are today and don't appreciated it with our many luxuries our money buys today.

  • Maybe the greatest writer in the History of America...

Defintly up there in the top ten writers of all time...At least in my opinion.

    R.I.P Steinbeck.
