wow i was there, when Heart came on, I was trippen balls on Acid and watching them threw binoculars that some couple let me use em. it was so amazing, it was my first ever concert other than, the only other band I ever seen, was a punk band in LA. I was 16 and it was a life changer for me.
I went to cal jam 2 at 16 yrs old. I was visiting my older brother. 350,00 people I thought was A lot of people untill I went to an american smoke -out. in D.C. At 500,000 people.4 years later. Bottom line is I love to rock still at 49 yrs old.
Man I loved the festivals back then. I remember watching this on T.V. I wanted so bad to go to California just to go to one of these festivals. A few years later I actually got to go to my first outdoor festival. Alice Cooper, Blue Oyster Cult, Black Sabbath. It was all festival seating. No one got hurt, everyone got along, Heck we could even bring in our own drinks as long as they were not glass bottles. When all the corp. sponsorship started, thats when the problems started.
I went to Cal Jam's 1&2,at 2 i went with my best friend & his sister..early in the day he went to the porta potties and spent the REST of the day looking for us with no luck! lol ...GREAT TIMES/MEMORIES! p.s.22yrs later,i Married his sister! Love ya,Sharon.
God I miss Rock n Roll!! Things have changed. The 70's and 80's was a blast and a good time to rock.Kids now days have no clue! Rock n roll is dead.It will never be the same. But at least we have the memories. And some good videos to prove it!!

Too cool. Wish I could have been there. But thankfully it's well documented. I still have the Cal jam 2 album. Wonder if it's worth anything? I remember watching it when it was televised with my father. And I'll never forget this. Aerosmith were on and he says,"Their good but why are they ugly as sin?" LOL!
To: EricBischoff,,how can i get pictures and info about the complete set up of this sound system?i am a sound tech myself and always trying to findout how things were done befor the 80's.i'm glasspak73 at y,a,h,o,o if you could help point me in the right direction i would realy appreciate it alot, thank you for any info...
I was there working for TFA/Electrosound. We had many tours booked that spring but not enough speakers so we went on a building spree. You never saw so much Finnish Birch plywood. We had invented a Turbo system and we were cranking out boxes like there was no tomorow. We had 5 or 6 of the acts out on tour that spring & converged there to build this humongous system. I remember building these elevator shafts to hoist speakers to various levels. That was the largest festival I ever worked on.
Later, they played the highlights on the local public television station. I watched them at my next door neighbors house, and his grandmother kept laughing about Anne Wilson's boots...
My best friend, Pam, and I attended this just days before my 18th birthday. It was an amazing experience. She has since passed, and I miss her so much. This brought back some great memories.
went there w/ a few friends- hot day- no bathrooms nearby (quit drinkin early) couldn't even stretch your legs- great tunes all day- enjoyed it, but wouldn't plan on being in the middle of the crowd again.. worth it, though
my dad said he went to cal jam 2...he said it was so intense...that they stood up for like 30 hours straight. and that the bathroom was like half a mile away...
I was THERE!!! Good times!!!

I'm sad about Pam, but glad you have some great memories together. At the end life is no more than memories, hopefully, more good than bad.
My very best to you and Pam

California Jam 1 was even more amazing than Ca.Jam 2. I was blown away. And yes, the johns were miles away. You could always find a tree.
