Triads are awesome, great replacement for open stuff. You can't play an open G form with the first note on E: 7th fret ( B major) without extreme discomfort, but you can play the major triad and get a simpler, but all around same sound.

I love them, great lesson. I wish more metal bands used chords like that.

What effects are on his guitar? I'm pretty new at guitar theory and chord practice, all I can do is a few cover riffs for practice. I tried doing this chord and it sounded nothing like the video. My equipment isn't anything fancy: esp ltd guitar (viper body), metal muff distortion, and an older fender amp that hums. I had some difficulty stretching for the fingering. Does anyone have any tips or advice to help me achieve this chord sound?

Yea i agree i tried doing that em triad XX457X and it sounds nothing like in the vid,however when i tried 004570 it did sounded similar, so is it the effects that make that synth sound cuz it sound like there is reverb and some chorus in the effects.Either way it sounds cool and lots of modern black metal bands like 1349,mayhem use those chords or somewhat similar.
