"For the first time in my life, I've failed as a Star Fleet officer!" What about that time when you were the 1st officer of the Saratoga and instead of doing anything to help with the evacuation or set a good example during the attack on Wolf 359, you have a complete meltdown and have to be dragged wailing and screaming to the escape pod by one of your underlings? Classic Sisko "leadership."
You know it would have made more sense for Ducat to blame Bajor for Xio's Death.
Since he's targeting the Gods of bajor anyway...and wasn't Xio raised on Bajor? Wouldn't that might be more to blame why she might side with the resistance than her father's people
You're missing the point with Dukat's peace with Damar. He needs something from him, nothing more. Therefore he is obliged to appear to put aside the differences between the two. How are you going to question Dukat's honesty in public when he's shown that he's lied time and time again throughout the series.
I understand why you didn't like Season 7. But I still really enjoyed a few of the episodes, especially The Emperor's new cloak, Tacking into the wind, and the last 6 episodes or so that lead up to the finale. It's a shame they couldn't have done something more interesting with Sisko.
I'm with you when you say the season 6 finale sucked. I'm even with you when you say the beginning of season seven wasn't that great. But, having gone through 16 of the episodes this season (re: the majority of the season) so far I'm finding a lot of great episodes and a few less than stellar episodes....but still episodes that can hold their own against all but the best of Voyager. Maybe all goes to hell in the 10 part arc, but so far I don't see where all the fuss comes from.
Umm WTF? We're not allowed to express opinions now are we? I'm sorry but you're not god. Matthew and many other reviewers like SFDebris and RedLetterMedia have all made reviews offering up good points and openly critisising the bad. It doesn't mean they don't like star trek. If you fail to see the bad parts you are totally blinded by an ideal and refuse to see anything that deviates from it. And I say this as someone who LIKED post-scorpion Voyager.
U dont know crap about the idea of star trek...u dont like it....keep ur opinions to ur self...star trek rocks...the idea of star trek rocks....nevermind what the scriptwriters think or do...its the idea to give birth to star trek that turns into something much more exciting..
I dont know why you so dont like DS9 maybe it was because you watched with your brother. Anyway I think that Star Trek DS9 is best star trek ever because it brings some elements that was in Star Trek newer seen before for example unlike TNG or VOY, DS9 has more real characters and storyline. Personally the last season of DS9 is best ever it has better ending than any of Star trek shows and continuing episodes and story build up to the one point of last episode is great.
It's conceivable that Dukat blames Sisko. He's the one who attacked DS9 and retook it, which basically ruined all of Dukat's plans, both for the Dominion and for his own daughter.
Man, you should find yourself a girl or something. I don't know what your problem is. Why do you pick on these shows? You tell the stories completely wrong and create a false image of the shows and the very complex story lines.
For the 3rd video review of DS9, did matthew call the DS9 episode "Far beyond the stars" -"one of the worst episodes in all of star trek and anything else that's ever been put on television"
though I WILL grant you I never liked all the Bajoran religeous nonsense but your still way WAY missing the point about the psychology of, well ALL the characters...
also your credibility goes RIGHT out the window when you say stuff like 'wheres the logic' about the actions of a character who IS INSANE. Logic does not apply to the thought processes of a lunatic. Yes Sisko had nothing to do with the murder of Ziyal but Dukat is NUTS and obsessed with blaming everything on Sisko.
Yes but using the excuse of "he's doing what he's doing because he's nuts and therefore his actions don't have to make sense" is an old and tired cliche and it's just lazy. Besides it's beside the point if it makes sense to the character it has to make sense to us, the audience. Otherwise how can we buy into it and understand his motivations?
Sorry but your just wrong, season 7 of DS9 while not as awesome as much of the rest of DS9 it's still great and has many MANY great episodes. There ARE some crap ones granted but theres plenty that rocks too.
I agree. I liked season 7. Yeah, there were some stupid episodes just like in every season. But they deserve props for being able to keep all the story lines and characters in check and completing their arcs. That's something Voyager could never do - remember something that happened to a character a few episodes ago.
Matthew, thank you for watching & reviewing that awful last season. Your definitely a masochist to make it through to the end. We who didn't appreciate your sacrifice.
Matt, the Hirogen had to expand the holodeck because it was not designed as a 100-200 person (however many crew aboard Voy) realm - only 1 or a few people.
I found this series enjoyable. This guy seems to over analyze way to much and obviously has his expectations set to where no Star Trek show will obviously ever match them.
I am fine with his over analyzing, it helps me realize things I don't see in a show (though I still think Nemesis wasn't as good as First Contact). Though the problem is that this review was supposed to be about the 7th season and the entire first part of it is dedicated to the last episode of the 6TH season! I could understand that it was a buildup to the contrived writing of the 7th season, but maybe he could do just quick messages of why he has problems of each episode instead.
Dukat blames Sisko for Ziyal's death. I can sorta see that. Dukat has never been himself since the Federation retook DS9. He's been crazy, and when you're crazy, you jump to ridiculous conclusions like that. Plus Sisko did lead the troops that forced Dukat and his minions to leave the station in such a haste, forcing Damar to act quickly, trying to get Dukat to leave with them.
Star Trek characters being possessed by evil non-corporial aliens is relatively common though, it's happened at some point in all the main series. And I don't think this was the first time in DS9 when someone was possessed by a "Pa Wraith", just this time it was voluntary. The incantation will be an ancient Bajoran ritual of some kind, so it's nothing too ridiculous.
I actually rewatched season 6.(yay for the person who invted the boxset)..a few eps earlier called the reckoning which ironically sets this eps up BTW..Starfleet is pissed twice that the emissary/captain thing clash and Jadiz and ben both say starfleet hasn't liked the whole emissary and captaing thing.
which BTW the station was nearly destroyed but, I'll let you read a summary or watch it since youtube only allows for so many words.
LOL, I don't agree with most of this review (thought the last season was pretty good, all in all, in spite of what's shown here), but I do have to say that this was a hilarious review, MAJOR kudos!
Worse than Voyager? "Take this CHEESE to sickbay!," "Freak-A-Saur," an entire future Borg growing from a single piece of future Starfleet technology .... Neelix ... Voyager??? Really???
Actually, I'm not even going to rebuke your assessment, because its far more entertaining that you just DON'T GET IT ... at all! Therein lies the humour. You're complaining about things you don't understand, and you're so incorrect, its funny. Thanks.
I don't understand why you hate the idea of Star Trek moving beyond its traditional formula. DS9 WAS Trek, it just changed and developed. Also, I fail to understand why you hate Worf. I think he's one of the best characters Trek ever had.
Ya him and data were always my favs :D. Seriously ill be honest im a TNG guy but I could sit this down and love it. You were digging for problems not logical reasons.
7:20 0nwards...No, Dukat isn't chanting spells, he's praying to the Pah Wraith inside the statue to tell it he's an ally. THis looks like its gonna be a long review.
Oh no, headache. 5:30 onwards. If you take a look at the majority of the stuff that has happened in season six, sisko sat on his ass behind a desk most of the time. They gave him a medal for no reason other than a ploy to ease the public mindset.
Whoa,Whoa,Whoa,Whoa,Whoa,Whoa,Whoa,Whoa,Whoa,Whoa,Whoa,Whoa,Whoa!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dukat is clinically insane by this time, he's fixed the whole universes problems on ben sisko, that inculdes ze'al(don't know whether its right spelling) Step one. 3:19, not lookin' good.
i never had that much of a problem with season 7. it had its problems but was a satisfactory end to a great show. the show overall was greatly flawed even at it peak. It best not to read too much into everything.
Dukat was such a good character. Too bad his final battle with the sisko was horrible, and it spat in the face of his character development over the years. I know he was supposed to gradually fall, but turning him pure evil was wrong. He was evil, but he had some good qualities
Maybe thats why they killed his daughter, to have an excuse for him to turn pure evil.
You are definitely "confused"!!! The 7th season of DS9 was a great season because it launched so many new story lines that were crucial to ending the characters and the show. And by the way, Voyager is just as good as DS9!! You've got everything WRONG!!!!!!
In all fairness DS9 has had people possesed earlier in the series so that isn't anything new.
Dukat who is insane at this pt. a few episodes earlier he was hearing and seeing people and crap. In his mind he blames Sisko b/c in his mind if he hadn't raced to DS9 to stop the minfield the saboters wouldn't have tried to disable the station and zeiel woudn't have help. Faulty logic sure but, remember Dukat is insane and HATES sisko.
dukat was already insane cuz he failed 2 keep the station and cuz the domion rein4cements didnt come through.thats y he blames sisco 4 everything.hes INSANE.zials death just pushed him over the edge.
Matthew, you think Dukat being demonically possessed is worse than anything that happened on Voyager? You're forgetting Janeway and Parris being turned into newts.
regarding worf, wasn't the series starting to get really exciting when they brought him into the picture?i can see where you're coming from with ''who gives a shit about worf?''because generations started with his promotion.lol.
You could hand wave Dukat's behaviour by him just being NUTS but about the only thing you can say about Dumar's murdering is - it probably wouldn't have gone down like that IF Sisko hadn't been leading the retaking of the station.
Which in itself is stupid as he was only PART of the fleet involved... albeit the only ship that was equipped to travel at the speed of plot.
Oh and by the way, I like Worf! HOwever, I didn't like him before he became a member of DS9. Before that he was an one dimensional microbrain charakter, but then he developed in a very good way.
Confused Matthew, didn't you say in your last DS9 Review that you cannot remember any important dialogs or stories except the overark of the Dominion war? I've seen the series and loved it but i cannot remember any episodes that much detailed as you do in this review!
Upon deciding to do this review I watched the entire series again, and the memories came flooding back.
However, I think I was wrong in the statement that there was something memorable about the original series, but not this; or that there was nothing memorable about this series at all.
You can't generalize about something like that, and I was wrong to do so. People are either gonna find this stuff memorable, or they aren't.
She was the "other girl" (Janet Wood, i.e. "Not Chrissy") in Three's Company. Practically has done nothing acting-wise since then, so it's a bit of a gag to say that she's done something. Family Guy has made reference to her from time to time.
Of course you know, Matthew, that you're going to have to do at least do a short video explaining why you have Worf. That guy's the reason there are so many freaks out there that know Klingon.
Yeah, that's pretty much what I thought. I still think it's a great show despite being weaker than before, though, just nothing that has really jumped out at me.
This week's episode was pretty good though- we finally got some stuff out of Kutner (Don't understand all this focus on 13). I wish they'd bring back those House clinic hours! Those never fail to crack me up.
you brought some great points in regards to dukat, but the fact that he totally forgot what damar had said only convinced me that he was far-gone crazy.i was a little surprised at the time of watching this that he wasn't trying to climb back to power.
What pissed me off about this season was that they brought Dax back ,when in all honesty I would prefer that Dax die and stay dead. I really hated the character of Dax.
I hated Dax and the Symbiote race in general. There was no reason to bring the character of Dax back to DS9 except to please a small fan base. The show and the character would more meaning if Dax had stayed dead. This is true in every medium:What is the point of killing off a character, if you just decide to bring them back? There is none. Characters that die should stay dead.
matthew... i like your reviews and i am a subscriber but what i think would be interesting to watch is for you to review a movie that everybody hates and you try to argue why its really a great movie.... like waterworld ha...."you should've stayed in the watahhh!!!" well im sure this comment will get lost in the sea of comments you get but i hope you read this one and at least think about it
ur abostutly right about dukat blaming sisko was stupid seriously the only real reason for his logic is that sisko started the war. but if duckat had'nt i dont know teamed up with the dominion in the frist place duckats daughter would not have had to really betry anyone so in a way dukcat forced dumars hand more then sisko did. if that makes any sence please respond to me confused matthew if u agree dissagree or have any comments.
I've always found your DS9 thoughts interesting... it was very much NOT Trek. Continuity alone in Trek kryptonite.
DS9 was easily my favourite Trek but... after the requisite shitfest first 2 seasons - it had 3-4 which were so awesome, you could forgive the half dozen body swap episodes.
5 was pretty good and things started to go wrong in 6... 7 was this... terribly misguided mix of super serious grim unending war and TAKE ME TO THE HOLODECK. Oh and the Prophets win the war...
Isn't it kind of implausible for two different alien species to interbreed and produce offspring? Vulcans have green blood and humans have red blood, Yet Spock is half human?
Scientist even say neanderthals and humans couldn't interbreed, Yet unlike Worf(Klingon) and Jadzia (trill) Neanderthals come from the same planet and evolutionary tree yet cant intermix.
I know that it supposed to be a analogy for interracial marriage,Which was even illegal in some states when TOS first aired.
It's part of the wonders of trekian medical science. Later in that episode Bashir is talking to Dax about how he was giving her some medical mumbo-jumbo so she could conceive with Worf. She was overjoyed.
Then she went to the temple and died. Talk about a mood swing.
It's also impossible to be able to travel faster than light, but these are the nonsensical things you have to accept to be a Trekkie.
Technically faster then light travel could be possible just improbable, The the only form that may be within probability is "worm holing" like the slipstream in Andromeda and voyager.
FTL is an endemic "suspension of disbelief" in all but the hardest of hard sci-fi (anything more than 20 minutes into the future has it... unless it's serious).
Wormholes are the MOST realistic but pretty much all FTL is pie in the sky. Even the notion of the Alcuiberre (sp?) drive is regarded as - at BEST - highly contentious and that's the real world explanation of warp speed.
In my layman's experience - most of these FTL methods tend to have a "more energy than the big bang" clause anyway.
how come u hate worf so much i am just wondering. like i really dont understand why u hate worf so much. can u explain why u hate worf so much. please
yeah ur right that was not very informative lol. like i persoanly think ur being hard on mr wolf. sorry i could resit that one lol. but still i mean i know he is not the most interesting character but still lol.
I have to admit, these reviews are hilarious, but way way way over exaggerated.

Oh no, headache. 5:30 onwards. If you take a look at the majority of the stuff that has happened in season six, sisko sat on his ass behind a desk most of the time. They gave him a medal for no reason other than a ploy to ease the public mindset.
scionlightning 3 years ago

You just didn't like voyager for it had a female captian it was to much of a change for your small mind?
And the last battle between dukat and sisko well umm dukat was possesed

when did this season come out? it better be old as hell. b/c "valhalla" would be a total ripoff...
xSolraccarloSx 3 years ago
Dukat was such a good character. Too bad his final battle with the sisko was horrible, and it spat in the face of his character development over the years. I know he was supposed to gradually fall, but turning him pure evil was wrong. He was evil, but he had some good qualities
Maybe thats why they killed his daughter, to have an excuse for him to turn pure evil.

You are definitely "confused"!!! The 7th season of DS9 was a great season because it launched so many new story lines that were crucial to ending the characters and the show. And by the way, Voyager is just as good as DS9!! You've got everything WRONG!!!!!!
emcneilk2 3 years ago
No he doesn't have anything wrong he just has a different opinion than you. God, why do people think others should have the same opinion as them?
mummra4ever 3 years ago
DS9 grew, in storyline, in main characters, in being in the Star Trek Universe.
season 7 wrapped up alot of loose ends and ended beautifully.
in retrospect: the show had to compete against Babylon 5, don't forget that!
DS9 now, after many years, is a beloved show.
about Voyager: it's a brilliant show! they turned Gene's vision 180 degrees. instead of going out there, the are trying to get home.
both DS9 and Voyager had great storylines and the fans gave them good reviews.
assimilator47 3 years ago 3
U poor, poor, misguided fool, assimilator.
peterparker12 3 years ago
In all fairness DS9 has had people possesed earlier in the series so that isn't anything new.
Dukat who is insane at this pt. a few episodes earlier he was hearing and seeing people and crap. In his mind he blames Sisko b/c in his mind if he hadn't raced to DS9 to stop the minfield the saboters wouldn't have tried to disable the station and zeiel woudn't have help. Faulty logic sure but, remember Dukat is insane and HATES sisko.
strikemode14 3 years ago
It had people possesed in one or two episodes, which is forgivable. But this sillyness extends throughout most of the seventh season, which is not.

So I'll just chill back and wait for another CM review (hopefully, a movie or something). See ya later people.

hehe I know I never got into Star Trek either but I watch for Matthew his commentaries are awesome.
I really would like to have a DVD voice over of a whole movie. Hmm Matthew how about an mp3 we could start and sync up with a movie? I'd pay for it.

I think it would have been more daring had they made Dax become a dude instead having Ezri, I guess they needed a 2nd female in the cast.
Jizuschrist 3 years ago 2
I thought exactly the same thing.
confusedmatthew 3 years ago
You could hand wave Dukat's behaviour by him just being NUTS but about the only thing you can say about Dumar's murdering is - it probably wouldn't have gone down like that IF Sisko hadn't been leading the retaking of the station.
Which in itself is stupid as he was only PART of the fleet involved... albeit the only ship that was equipped to travel at the speed of plot.
ProphetTenebrae 3 years ago
Oh and by the way, I like Worf! HOwever, I didn't like him before he became a member of DS9. Before that he was an one dimensional microbrain charakter, but then he developed in a very good way.
Exverlobter 3 years ago 2
Confused Matthew, didn't you say in your last DS9 Review that you cannot remember any important dialogs or stories except the overark of the Dominion war? I've seen the series and loved it but i cannot remember any episodes that much detailed as you do in this review!
Exverlobter 3 years ago
Upon deciding to do this review I watched the entire series again, and the memories came flooding back.
However, I think I was wrong in the statement that there was something memorable about the original series, but not this; or that there was nothing memorable about this series at all.
You can't generalize about something like that, and I was wrong to do so. People are either gonna find this stuff memorable, or they aren't.

Who's Joyce Dewitt?
CaptainPositron 3 years ago
She was the "other girl" (Janet Wood, i.e. "Not Chrissy") in Three's Company. Practically has done nothing acting-wise since then, so it's a bit of a gag to say that she's done something. Family Guy has made reference to her from time to time.

Hm, speaking of TV shows, wondering what you think of House season 5 so far. I've been pretty unimpressed save maybe one episode.
BottleHoward 3 years ago
So far its been "Meh". They had a great idea with trying to see what House is like without Wilson for a while, but it was too short.
I love the show, but I feel like they're slowly running out of gas.
confusedmatthew 3 years ago

I really hated the character of Dax.
pytko3 3 years ago
Totally agree
TheSolotion 3 years ago
Or Dax could come back as a man. That would have been interesting scene with Worf.
phantomdasilva 3 years ago
I hated Dax and the Symbiote race in general. There was no reason to bring the character of Dax back to DS9 except to please a small fan base. The show and the character would more meaning if Dax had stayed dead. This is true in every medium:What is the point of killing off a character, if you just decide to bring them back? There is none. Characters that die should stay dead.
pytko3 3 years ago
U'r so utterly wrong. Does "The Search 4 Spock" ring a bell 2 u?
Arkhimec 3 years ago
Lenord Nimoy hated that film, because he wanted the character of Spock to die.

matthew... i like your reviews and i am a subscriber but what i think would be interesting to watch is for you to review a movie that everybody hates and you try to argue why its really a great movie.... like waterworld ha...."you should've stayed in the watahhh!!!" well im sure this comment will get lost in the sea of comments you get but i hope you read this one and at least think about it

ur abostutly right about dukat blaming sisko was stupid seriously the only real reason for his logic is that sisko started the war. but if duckat had'nt i dont know teamed up with the dominion in the frist place duckats daughter would not have had to really betry anyone so in a way dukcat forced dumars hand more then sisko did. if that makes any sence please respond to me confused matthew if u agree dissagree or have any comments.
thewewguy8t88 3 years ago
Dear CM,
I've always found your DS9 thoughts interesting... it was very much NOT Trek.

Jizuschrist 3 years ago
Dude, I suggest you watch Enterprise. You'll find all the answers you need there.
Arkhimec 3 years ago
whats Enterprise? i know what its not a star trek show.
AnnoyedAndrew 3 years ago
It's part of the wonders of trekian medical science. Later in that episode Bashir is talking to Dax about how he was giving her some medical mumbo-jumbo so she could conceive with Worf. She was overjoyed.
Then she went to the temple and died. Talk about a mood swing.
It's also impossible to be able to travel faster than light, but these are the nonsensical things you have to accept to be a Trekkie.
TheGodBen 3 years ago
Technically faster then light travel could be possible just improbable, The the only form that may be within probability is "worm holing" like the slipstream in Andromeda and voyager.
Jizuschrist 3 years ago
FTL is an endemic "suspension of disbelief" in all but the hardest of hard sci-fi (anything more than 20 minutes into the future has it... unless it's serious).
Wormholes are the MOST realistic but pretty much all FTL is pie in the sky. Even the notion of the Alcuiberre (sp?) drive is regarded as - at BEST - highly contentious and that's the real world explanation of warp speed.
In my layman's experience - most of these FTL methods tend to have a "more energy than the big bang" clause anyway.
ProphetTenebrae 3 years ago
Dude, shut up. FTL travel is real. US sooper seekrit space carriers are using it right now to fight the Wraith in Pegasus Galaxy
