I love how excited Rener is every time he makes a video. It seems like he's doing it for the very first time even though he's been doing this stuff over and over and over again. I suppose that's one reason why Rener is so good: Everything keeps its interest to him.
I saw these two kids fight on youtube and this MMA fighter got a PERFECT Kimura and he was loosing the fight:) Incredible how a fight can change in a split second, literally:)
It would help to demonstrate technique if each person had more vibrant colors. Instead of wearing a white gi, try blue and red. It makes it so you can see the two people and limbs very easy. Try to wear something that makes your body look more unique from his. (I know you have a voice and face and this and that, but a little color coordination might do wonders.)
@MrDasilva8383 This guy's grandfather is HELIO GRACIE. If that doesn't ring a bell for you, Helio created Gracie (Brazilian) Jiu-Jitsu. Members of their family have beaten boxers, kickboxers, martial artists of virtually every art, and his uncle and father created the UFC. So before you keep talking shit about the Gracies or jiu-jitsu, do your research.
one of the most amazing techniques in gracie jiu jitsu! Every single detail in this technique is with 100 % effectivness! you don't use your own strenght even once! ;D
Spoke too much? Renner you are one of the most clear and concise instructors I have ever seen. My instructors, thankfully, teach very much as you do. I am fortunate to train with them.
love people who call this gay. These young men barely out of their teens would dismantle your bones from your joints in a matter of seconds if they wanted.
@Hayashirice911 you can force it but its easiest when its laying flat on the ground i tried it by force and they kinda get what your doing by the time i pull their arm to their side
I am a beginner but i am making some kind of mistake. Whenever i try the kimura, my opponent is able to bend his arm, wich makes me lose my grip. Any tips?
@Zwollem you have to control the wrist asap. one of the counters is for them to pull their fist to their chest. sometimes they can cause a shoulder lock on you because of this. just don't let them bring their hand closer to their body. if that makes any sense at all
@Zwollem you need to pull there arm against your chest. just like they show in this technique. they should have very hard to bend there arm beacuse of your leverage then.
This so-called Kimura Lock was not invented by Masahiko Kimura. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners only started referring the move as Kimura because Helio Gracie was defeated by Masahiko resulting with the "Kimura Lock". The actual name of the move in Judo is Gyaku Ude Gurumi. And for your information, here's a little time-line of BJJ's origin:
I don't get why they show the kimura at 90 degrees it's just plain out wrong, if the guy is strong or has any sense he would straighter his arm. The best way to do a Kimura is to hold as much possible making his thumb touch his shoulder then the back of his head POP POP!!!
@Efferts watch all of the other Kimura videos then reflect, then watch this one again....you will at least see it a couple ways, and will hopefully understand the technique a little more. Lol, I had to keep watching, because I thought it was too intricate, too. I just kept watching, then it helped. Thanks, Gracies+!
i love rener..he is awesome. you can tell how much he loves jiu jitsu and loves to teach it by watching these videos...and he doesn't even think of it as a sport. his teaching style is awesome...his energy, intensity, and enthusiasm..never misses a beat. his respect for the gracie history and it's philosophy on life in general is just amazing. i really wish i could train there
I used a mover similar to this in wrestling in High School the couple of times I actually ended up losing my base and hitting the mat. Works a treat against a stronger opponent who is trying to pin you to the mat. You just cant go beyond the 90 degree angle in wrestling and apply the lock. The move still is VERY awesome for gaining control and escaping from the bottom.
Question: Instead of continuing to shrimp off to the side so that the trapped shoulder touches the ground, doesn't it work just to shrimp back to a closed guard? That's what I was taught and it gets the guy to submit.
Here is an example. Dan Henderson's fight against Minotauro Nogeira. Nogeira tried to sub him with the kimura without getting his hips out and the leg on top (too tired or poor execution), and Henderson did not submit.
I've also done it the way you say you have. Kommisar,
Sure, it sometimes works, but especially in competition, when people have very flexible or strong shoulders, or when the person is much bigger than you,it is very difficult to finish because of the lack of leverage.
What I mean, is that even with brute strength there will always be someone who can out muscle you, which is when the only thing that will save you is technique. Submitting A, B and C persons doesn't mean that D will submit or that you'd be able to apply or finish the move without the proper technique. Bigger brute strength type people can sometimes get away with not having proper technique.
Yeah, that's with a lot of things. This is a high percentage move though. Good technique will ensure this will work and it's a very simple move.
Also, as long as you get the figure-four hold, they're in trouble. Even if you can't pull it to a keylock, you can do a post sweep, which is still bad for them as then you have them in the mount and still have the possibility for a keylock.
Time to test it in the UFC Rener. You are not getting any younger.Cesar Gracie is also a great teacher, but we all know how well he did.Rener vs.Marc Laimon @ UFC 90"Revenge for beating Ryron"?
Here how UFC 90 would go. Laimon moves to the center of the ring an throws one punch that scores him a hit. Then he runs away from Rener the way he ran from Ryron for the the rest of the match. Rener stand in the middle of the ring laughing. Laimon emerges victorious by decision and rides off the fame of that "victory" for another 10 years...
ROFL! "How do I get my shoulder on the ground so beautifully? *whispers* ... I ride him up" Shh don't tell anyone that's our little secret 3:27

Question: Instead of continuing to shrimp off to the side so that the trapped shoulder touches the ground, doesn't it work just to shrimp back to a closed guard? That's what I was taught and it gets the guy to submit.
kommisar 3 years ago
Kommisar,
No, you don't have nearly as much leverage in that position. It might finish some people, but it is not the correct way to do it.
Snowjiujitsu 3 years ago
But then why did it submit everyone I've done it on. I can't see how you could escape it. You can't roll out of a (frontal) closed guard.
kommisar 3 years ago
