they should've just ended the fight early because Ruddock basically hung onto the back of Mike's neck like 20 times each round.... i don't see that stupid ref warning him except telling him to get off his neck.
THIS IS THE REAL CHAMP FUCK THE KLITCHKOS PLANNED AND STRATEGIST PLANNED FIGHTS... IF YOU ARE 6'7 FIGHTING OPPONENT 6 FEET AND BELOW.. GUESS WHAT THERE WILL ALWAYS BE AN ADVANTAGE!!
@illuzn88 They had a street fight! Mike lost that too. Lewis threw one punch Tyson hit the ground and tried to bite his leg like a chick would. ROTFL.
4:00 Mike's listening to his corner trying to use his jab but he's too short to be fighting like that and that's why he's getting nailed by someone with height and reach.
@killuminatii1 It was all bullshit King brought in giachetti. He needed to bring back rooney but didnt want to pay rooney for the rest of tysons career. But tyson said this was his last fight and he lost all his fire after this second ruddock fight.I believe he was never the same after taking 9 months off from training after the spinks ko.He just never seemed to be able to get back that defensive slickness with those catipulting combinations that all landed when he threw them.
dam the commentator had it in for tyson sure tyson got hit but he kept coming and when tyson hit razor he stopped fighting i mean it was a good fight they both were but its like every body wanted to fall
It's hard to believe anyone could take this many shots to the head, body, and groin as Ruddock did from Tyson and remain standing...much less fighting back. So much respect for Ruddock. A gentleman as well.
wow good catch. Even with the low quality you see the redness and the swelling appear. surprised he didnt collapse. I've broken my jaw before and its sever pain.

A true great gets off the floor to win, fights through blood and pain and comes from behind to triumph. Tyson never did any of this in his career - he's even struggling here with a big, clumsy bum like Ruddock - a guy that even Tommy Morrison could knock out.
Are you being intentionally simple-minded? I'm not going to say much since you are just another with, depressingly so, an irrational dislike for Mike Tyson that impedes a sensible appraisal of his standing as a heavyweight. Isn't it obvious to you that the Tyson in this fight isn't, motivationally and technically, as good as the one from between 1986-88? Or are you just not very intelligent...
As you are so rude and insulting I do this with a heavy heart...
You can't just take one small chunk of a fighter's career and say 'wasn't he oh so brilliant then'. I happen to think he made his name during that period fighting mainly second raters like Berbick, Bruno, Tubbs and Smith.
When he fought multi talented and multi dimensional fighters like Douglas (on his day), Holyfield and Lewis Tyson didn't have a clue.
I just cannot get to grips with your confused train of thought. Doesn't it appear obvious to you that by the time of the Holyfield and Lewis encounters (particularly the latter) Tyson was a seriously diminished force owing to age, inactivity and a lack of motivation. It's really rather simple to anyone without an irrational dislike for the man.
Holyfield had had many, many problems in his own career...a heart scare, injuries, hepatitis etc, he was far older than Tyson and came from a lower division. Why do people make endless excuses for Tyson's defeats? It really is laughable! Could it just be that he just wasn't as good as you thought he was?
If you cannot, or will not, acknowledge the progressive deterioration in Tyson's fighting prowess from 1989 onwards then there's little point going any further with this 'debate'. When, for reasons largely explainable by an innate psychological fragility, Tyson voluntarily associated himself with a social group of hangers-on and conmen, his training habits necessarily suffered as a result. Accordingly, he sharply ended up a largely one-dimensional fighter.
Its all come full circle...I initially said "fawning Tyson worshippers".
You think Tyson is so good because you desperately want to believe it despite evidence to the contrary. You cannot for one second accept that he was KNOCKED OUT at 23 because he was exposed as being less than great. It always has to come with an excuse...every single fighter has to come through problems and distractions if they want to be great.
And I myself am not one who does, nor have I ever deemed him to be a 'great' fighter. Nonetheless, he was in his early years an excellent fighter who certainly had the potential to dominate the heavyweight scene- and naturally to develop futher as a boxer- for longer than he did; Tyson's rapid decline owed more to mental weakness than to anything physical.
I'm sorry, but you are just one of many who have, whether fully consciously or not, a warped understanding of Tyson as a fighter. Given his extremely public persona and indeed the many accompanying indiscretions, many blindly denigrate his ability as a fighter in an attempt to, it would seem, paint themselves as authentic connoisseurs of the sport. Put simply, it is cool not to rate Tyson or at least to consider him overrated- cool, but not of sound judgment.
Not looking to be rude, prefer more to address your point. I can see what your saying, but you gotta look at the mental state of Tyson when he fought the above fighters you mentioned, and also where he was in his career & the people surrounding him, ie Don King, he's wife etc. In fights against Douglas & Holyfield, it was clear this wasn't the mike Tyson we knew, not because he was clueless, but mismanaged and badly coached. His head wasn't in it. It was in everything going on outside the ring.
I respect what you say but I'm sick of people making excuses for Tyson's losses - every fighter has problems with management (Holyfield didn't even like the Duva's) outside distractions and people trying to rip them off. Hell, people try to rip ME off and I don't even have any money.
If Tyson is the public's superhero (and he clearly is) then fair play to that I won't spoil your little dream.
Not sure about the 'spoil your little dream' comment, bit uncalled for. He wasn't perfect and ya very possible there were better fighters, just like what people say about ali. I enjoy a bit of discussion about boxing thats all. Nuf said really. Peace.

I just cannot understand you people! I can only assume you believe every ridiculous piece of hype you read in newspapers.
You refuse to acknowledge it is the 'same Tyson' after 86-89 huh? Take any heavyweight from the past then...for example Joe Frazier. Well by your logic HE must the best ever because at one point he was 29-0, the undisputed champion and with a victory over the unbeaten Ali who most acknowledge as the greatest heavyweight ever. We'll forget about his career AFTER then right???
Actually, since most of you nuthuggers claim Tyson's prime lasted until 1988, Lewis was still an AMATEUR...Lewis beat another great heavyweight of the era, Riddick Bowe, in the Gold Medal fight in Seoul. When Tyson was thrown in prison, that's when Lewis' career blossomed...he was only a pro for 2 1/2 years. All this garbage is hilarious. Where was Tyson when Holyfield kept calling him out in 1989? Fighting Carl Williams, Tony Tubbs, and then Buster Douglas. It works both ways guys
Plus, you forget, Tyson didn't duck Foreman. Tyson was not the champ when Foreman was a #1 contender. Foreman retired for a while before coming back. Again, Carl williams, Tony Tubbs, and even Buster Douglas were, in fact, top contenders during that period. The problem is that the period wasn't the greatest in Heavyweight boxing, much like today.
at the 1:28th mark you can hear the ref say knock that s#@$ off. I wonder if anyone heard that when it was aired. Doesn't matter, it was on HBO anyway
Tyson was ferocious and I loved his love of the sport and his STUDY of the game etc. BUT....the problem with him was IF you fought him and got past his fury, IF you werent afraid....The guys that dragged him into the later rounds ko`ed him
He cant be in the top 5 cos a champ gets up and NEVER quits. He quit EVERY time someone knocked him down....Average fighters beat him...And in his prime he scraped by in a few close calls as well with guys that didnt just lay down and bow to his greatness....
I agree that, late in his career, Tyson lacked heart and skill. However, that being said, early in his career he was dominant and beat EVERYBODY. Ruddock was a top fighter. Go back earlier, and nobody, except Buster Douglas, even hung with Tyson. He may not be a top 5 fighter of all time, but he was the most dominant fighter in his prime.
Youre actually wrong...The average fight fan THINKS this because they dont eat shit breathe and live boxing...The FACT is Tyson caught hell and LOST to Henry Tillman Twice 4 the olympic trials, had close calls with Bonecrusher Smith,Frank Bruno, and even that bum tony tucker. I love Mike but he was NEVER unbeatable cos he only knew how to fight one way head up n in ur face which is y he DUCKED old Foreman who came back to whup his ass...
Actually, I have boxed and practiced MMA/BJJ for years. I love boxing, and I know the sport. In response to your comment, I don't count amateur losses/Olympic losses as counting towards his fight career. With regard to the other fights, I wouldn't call those "close calls". Smith ran for 12 rounds and didn't really fight, but did use a couple dirty tactics. Bruno got stopped in 5 rounds, and, aside from a few punches in the first round, never had Tyson hurt.
With regard to Tucker, yes Tucker broke his hand and had Tyson in a close match through 4 rounds, but Tyson nonetheless clearly beat Tucker that fight. This goes to my initial point: Tyson beat every top contender/champion in his prime.
With regard to Foreman, I don't think Mike ducked him. Foreman was considered a "joke" in his initial comeback, and most people saw it is a gimmick to make money. Until Foreman actually beat top fighters, there was no reason, or money, for Tyson to fight him.
@prinsovdahkniss Haaa haaa...WOW LMAO. Close calls to Tucker, Bonecrusher, Bruno, and the olympic loss to Tillman. What fights were you watching!? I suggest you go out and actually watch those fights before commenting cause you look really rediculous! Sounds like your in your own little world! ha Oh and how did tillman do when they were pros? I forgot
Not true...he had trouble with Quick Tillis, Tony Tucker, and Mitch Blood Green. If you really want to talk about someone that DESTROYED everybody, it was Foreman. Foreman beat a top-flight PRIME heavyweight in Joe Frazier. Tyson beat Pinklon Thomas, Trevor Berbick, and Tony Tucker. Not exactly the same quality. And Foreman's level of opposition was much higher than the bottom-feeders like Jose Ribalta Don King fed him to keep a strangle hold on the world heavyweight title
First off, i'm not a Tyson "nuthugger". I'm saying he fought who was around during his time, and those fighters included Razor Ruddock, et. al. He dominated a heavyweight division pure and simple. Was he a top 5 great fighter? Absolutely not.
Now, you talk about Foreman, but Frazier was at the end of his career, and Foreman was larger, stronger, and quicker in his prime. On paper, Foreman should've, and did, beat Frazier.
Im smokin da sucka quit cos he couldnt get up...Foreman knocked Frazier down 6 or 7 times...guess what ?
Frazier KEPT getting up...the mark of a TRUE champ...Tyson STAYED down EVERY TIME he got knocked down...Thats quitting in my book. And btw U know ur in trouble when ur highlight is beating that bitch ass michael spinks, or trevor berbick...they both sucked.Mighty mikes most impressive win was Larry Holmes...He NEVER beat anyone else worth a shit !!!!
Anyone who got him good knocked him out n this includes bitch ass fighters...
I love Mike but a true student of boxing knows to adapt more than 1 style...His bull style couldnt work with anyone bigger or stronger which is y he lost to dat bum lewis n ducked old george foreman in his prime...
he never ducked foreman that was up to the WBA not Tyson or Foreman do some research before you talk shit. Tyson was way to old when he fought Lewis he had no ambitions to win. And his style obviously worked well until firing Kevin. I don't see Mayweather switching up his style.
You got more excuses than a thief runnin from the bank caught by da cops wit a satchel full o cash...Its a FACT that Tyson wanted no part of Foreman...and its a damn good thing cos he woulda got MURDERED....Mayweathers not a good example of a great fighter and ur comment is all the more reason hell end up gettin his ass kicked too...And Tysons AGE had NOTHING to do with his loss.If u knew boxing ud know he turned himself into a weighlifter started coming in heavy..forgot about ROADWORK
to say that is not really fair. the fact is, when tyson was in his prime, highly motivated, highly tuned in and highly trained he was a great great fighter. tysons problem was mental rather than physical. once he achieved anything he no longer had enough desire to keep proving himself.
@michaelvkelly1 He was never invincible. They held off on matching him up against some of the best fighters. Holyfield - long delayed. Bowe and Foreman, never happened. Lewis - delayed. Who did he fight after jail? Mcneely, Seldon? Who heard of mcneely and Seldon before the fights. I bet even Axel Shultz might have beat tyson.
@34thstreetman after the prison i agree he wasnt that what he was before. but a mike tyson from 1988 would have fought everyone, that wanbted a piece of him. under his true managers he was guided perfectly. and btw: he would have destroyed everyone in 1986-1988. every past and present fighter. greatest prime!
@michaelvkelly1 yep! and that's he'll be never ranked among the Ali, Frazier, Louis,Holmes and Holyfield. You've got to have the desire and the descipline........too bad he could've been the G.O.A.T....Because he was AWESOME God Like when he was on.
@michaelvkelly1 had Tyson fought Holyfiend the night he defeated Spinks Holyfield would have destroyed him then too. Tyson doesnt have the mental toughness to beat a guy like Holyfield.
When Tyson fought Spinks Holyfield wasn't even a heavyweight, and Tyson would have destroyed him. The version Evander fought was no longer "Iron Mike". Even by this Ruddock fight Mike wasn't nearly as sharp as he once was. And after prison his skills diminished even more. Tyson still gave him a fight, and if not for Holyfield opening a cut above his eye with headbutts, it could have been a different fight.
Mike finally went up against someone that fought dirtier than he did.
@m109r67 Of course, nobody knows. This is all theoretical. But at that time Mike was dominating the heavyweight division, sharp, focused, hungry, and surrounded by a great corner (Cus, Rooney, Atlas). Evander wasn't even a heavyweight. Logically, I see Mike taking that fight at that juncture.
It's all about timing, and picking the right opponent at the right time. No up & comer wanted any piece of a 20-23 year old Tyson. That's why he "never fought anybody great" during his prime.
mill lanes is funny, as small as he is, he's always in the mix yelling at people "watch that jab NOW BOX" lanes move your little 5'9 buck 20 ass to the side before you get hurtlol
ruddock has his fukin shorts so high its under his arm pits, thats why everytime tyson goes for a body shot, they call it low blow. their not realy low blows
yes but in 02 he was old, pissd off, no one cared about him+i think he had doopd himself, because he was slow as hell, and mike issnt one of the slow heavyweaight campions, he was fast.
Rabbethepowah, Lewis never lost to Vitali, his 2 loses were against Oliver McCall & Hasim Rahman which were both avenged, if you are going to post at least get your facts right.
oh excuse me lewis is undeafeted in his career? NO! he lost to vitali and hasim to "nobodys". did ali go undeafeted trough his career? NO! so why u nagging on tyson so much cuz he lost some fights during his whole career, just walk a mile in his shoes before posting a silly comment here
its called getting old and life wearin on ya.. tyson won the heavyweight title at 20 years old.. youngest ever. tyson turned into a monster then lost that touch as he got older.
sorry my comment didnt come across right, i was meaning lewis win over tyson didnt mean anything and tyson is in a different league to lewis. ps i meant lewis=legend eh?
When Freddie says "oh he get hit again, Tyson coming in" It was actually Tyson that landed a very fast and hard left that knocked Ruddock back. Tyson didn't get hit in that exchange.
could this ruddock have defeated lennox lewis i see a more hungry and determent razor tyson coach is a fucking moron! left hand right hand left hook that's what i learn the first day of boxing!! tyson should have never left rooney!
I remember what BOXING magazine said following this fight, "All Ruddock proved is that he takes a good beating" or words to that effect. a little harsh I thought. Ruddock has heart but he was afraid of Mike, and for good reason every time he fought back he either lost the exchanges or got planted on his ass. That's not to say he didn't hit Mike with some bombs, He did but Mike is like a battleship. I remember Ruddock saying that no man 220 lbs should be able to take his shots like Mike did.
The commenting is all about how well Rudduck is standing up to the beating he is taking from Tyson. At no time do they ever suggest Rudduck has a chance of winning. Rudduck was a tough man and punched like a "mule kicks" according to Tyson, but in the end it was about surviving. He was too afraid of getting walloped. That's the difference, Mike is always concerned about walloping the other guy while the other guy is always concerned about being walloped by mike. It's about imposing your will
You appear to have misunderstood the tone of my comment. I'm a huge Tyson fan and feel therefore that his career post-Spinks should be ignored since he never again fought to his best after it....Watthiman. I'm now away to beast an arse.
mike is definately a lengend... he;s knocked 28 contenders out in the 1st round alone and he was put on zolof to stop from damn near commiting murder in the ring
He was never the same because of the beatings he took in 2 fights with Tyson; not because of Lennox. What makes him a legend? Please. Don't kid yourself; your hero Lennox only fought him when he knew he could beat him. Lennox, although great, will never be on the same level as a prime Mike.
What makes mike Tyson a legend? His career!!! His fighting! George Foreman rates Tyson the 4th beat HW boxer of all time ahead of Ali. "He's my No 4 because the young Tyson was a genuine, destructive phenomenon."
yeah the reason why tyson gets shafted on lists of the best hw boxers is bc of the bite fight, like I give a fuck boxing isnt a moral sport to begin with but shit can ruddock take a beating, and in this fight tyson took more of a beating then when he faught douglas
so right dude.... its such a fucing shame that ALL THE Catskill team had left the corner of tyson....The hurt of skills greatly showed in his last fights...Man so sad
bahahaha?..pussy eh...first he gets more pussy then u,and ur prob some lil fag who sits in his house and cant get women bc ur balls are so fuckin small..i think ur a lil fag.....fuck ppl like u piss me off so bad!!!
Yeah, Mike is definately relying on power here compared to his earlier style. Still good defense, but not like the earlier peek-a-boo stuff. Walks in upright, loads up. The thing is, with that much power, he could get away with it.
they should've just ended the fight early because Ruddock basically hung onto the back of Mike's neck like 20 times each round.... i don't see that stupid ref warning him except telling him to get off his neck.

The problem is that the period wasn't the greatest in Heavyweight boxing, much like today.

shariefwat 2 years ago
Tyson was ferocious and I loved his love of the sport and his STUDY of the game etc. BUT....the problem with him was IF you fought him and got past his fury, IF you werent afraid....The guys that dragged him into the later rounds ko`ed him
He cant be in the top 5 cos a champ gets up and NEVER quits. He quit EVERY time someone knocked him down....Average fighters beat him...And in his prime he scraped by in a few close calls as well with guys that didnt just lay down and bow to his greatness....
prinsovdahkniss 2 years ago
I agree that, late in his career, Tyson lacked heart and skill. However, that being said, early in his career he was dominant and beat EVERYBODY. Ruddock was a top fighter. Go back earlier, and nobody, except Buster Douglas, even hung with Tyson. He may not be a top 5 fighter of all time, but he was the most dominant fighter in his prime.
del1000005 2 years ago 2
Youre actually wrong...The average fight fan THINKS this because they dont eat shit breathe and live boxing...The FACT is Tyson caught hell and LOST to Henry Tillman Twice 4 the olympic trials, had close calls with Bonecrusher Smith,Frank Bruno, and even that bum tony tucker. I love Mike but he was NEVER unbeatable cos he only knew how to fight one way head up n in ur face which is y he DUCKED old Foreman who came back to whup his ass...
prinsovdahkniss 2 years ago
Actually, I have boxed and practiced MMA/BJJ for years. I love boxing, and I know the sport. In response to your comment, I don't count amateur losses/Olympic losses as counting towards his fight career. With regard to the other fights, I wouldn't call those "close calls". Smith ran for 12 rounds and didn't really fight, but did use a couple dirty tactics. Bruno got stopped in 5 rounds, and, aside from a few punches in the first round, never had Tyson hurt.
del1000005 2 years ago
With regard to Tucker, yes Tucker broke his hand and had Tyson in a close match through 4 rounds, but Tyson nonetheless clearly beat Tucker that fight. This goes to my initial point: Tyson beat every top contender/champion in his prime.
With regard to Foreman, I don't think Mike ducked him. Foreman was considered a "joke" in his initial comeback, and most people saw it is a gimmick to make money. Until Foreman actually beat top fighters, there was no reason, or money, for Tyson to fight him.
del1000005 2 years ago
@prinsovdahkniss Haaa haaa...WOW LMAO. Close calls to Tucker, Bonecrusher, Bruno, and the olympic loss to Tillman. What fights were you watching!? I suggest you go out and actually watch those fights before commenting cause you look really rediculous! Sounds like your in your own little world! ha Oh and how did tillman do when they were pros? I forgot
andrew587658 1 year ago 9
Not true...he had trouble with Quick Tillis, Tony Tucker, and Mitch Blood Green. If you really want to talk about someone that DESTROYED everybody, it was Foreman. Foreman beat a top-flight PRIME heavyweight in Joe Frazier. Tyson beat Pinklon Thomas, Trevor Berbick, and Tony Tucker. Not exactly the same quality. And Foreman's level of opposition was much higher than the bottom-feeders like Jose Ribalta Don King fed him to keep a strangle hold on the world heavyweight title
cbaldwinjr 2 years ago
First off, i'm not a Tyson "nuthugger". I'm saying he fought who was around during his time, and those fighters included Razor Ruddock, et. al. He dominated a heavyweight division pure and simple. Was he a top 5 great fighter? Absolutely not.
Now, you talk about Foreman, but Frazier was at the end of his career, and Foreman was larger, stronger, and quicker in his prime. On paper, Foreman should've, and did, beat Frazier.
del1000005 2 years ago
he never quit....he got his ass KNOCKED OUT but he never quit.I don't know what your smokin
BoxingPride 2 years ago
Im smokin da sucka quit cos he couldnt get up...Foreman knocked Frazier down 6 or 7 times...guess what ?
Frazier KEPT getting up...the mark of a TRUE champ...Tyson STAYED down EVERY TIME he got knocked down...Thats quitting in my book. And btw U know ur in trouble when ur highlight is beating that bitch ass michael spinks, or trevor berbick...they both sucked.Mighty mikes most impressive win was Larry Holmes...He NEVER beat anyone else worth a shit !!!!
prinsovdahkniss 2 years ago
Tyson got hit hard obviously you've never been dazed by a punch
TheRatedRThuglife77 2 years ago
Anyone who got him good knocked him out n this includes bitch ass fighters...
I love Mike but a true student of boxing knows to adapt more than 1 style...His bull style couldnt work with anyone bigger or stronger which is y he lost to dat bum lewis n ducked old george foreman in his prime...
prinsovdahkniss 2 years ago
he never ducked foreman that was up to the WBA not Tyson or Foreman do some research before you talk shit. Tyson was way to old when he fought Lewis he had no ambitions to win. And his style obviously worked well until firing Kevin. I don't see Mayweather switching up his style.
TheRatedRThuglife77 2 years ago
You got more excuses than a thief runnin from the bank caught by da cops wit a satchel full o cash...Its a FACT that Tyson wanted no part of Foreman...and its a damn good thing cos he woulda got MURDERED....Mayweathers not a good example of a great fighter and ur comment is all the more reason hell end up gettin his ass kicked too...And Tysons AGE had NOTHING to do with his loss.If u knew boxing ud know he turned himself into a weighlifter started coming in heavy..forgot about ROADWORK

boxingisbest 2 years ago
to say that is not really fair. the fact is, when tyson was in his prime, highly motivated, highly tuned in and highly trained he was a great great fighter. tysons problem was mental rather than physical. once he achieved anything he no longer had enough desire to keep proving himself.
michaelvkelly1 2 years ago 29
@michaelvkelly1 He was never invincible. They held off on matching him up against some of the best fighters. Holyfield - long delayed. Bowe and Foreman, never happened. Lewis - delayed. Who did he fight after jail? Mcneely, Seldon? Who heard of mcneely and Seldon before the fights. I bet even Axel Shultz might have beat tyson.
34thstreetman 1 year ago
@34thstreetman after the prison i agree he wasnt that what he was before. but a mike tyson from 1988 would have fought everyone, that wanbted a piece of him. under his true managers he was guided perfectly. and btw: he would have destroyed everyone in 1986-1988. every past and present fighter. greatest prime!
baselkicker 1 year ago 3
@michaelvkelly1 yep! and that's he'll be never ranked among the Ali, Frazier, Louis,Holmes and Holyfield. You've got to have the desire and the descipline........too bad he could've been the G.O.A.T....Because he was AWESOME God Like when he was on.
LVSWTZ 11 months ago
@michaelvkelly1 WHEN YOU ARE 45 AND 1 WITH 40 KO'S WHAT'S THERE TO PROVE??
jevonmichael 9 months ago
@michaelvkelly1 had Tyson fought Holyfiend the night he defeated Spinks Holyfield would have destroyed him then too. Tyson doesnt have the mental toughness to beat a guy like Holyfield.
ah93704 4 months ago
When Tyson fought Spinks Holyfield wasn't even a heavyweight, and Tyson would have destroyed him. The version Evander fought was no longer "Iron Mike". Even by this Ruddock fight Mike wasn't nearly as sharp as he once was. And after prison his skills diminished even more. Tyson still gave him a fight, and if not for Holyfield opening a cut above his eye with headbutts, it could have been a different fight.
Mike finally went up against someone that fought dirtier than he did.
JunmaiShu 3 months ago
@JunmaiShu You dont no that mike would have beat Evander.
m109r67 2 months ago
@m109r67 Of course, nobody knows. This is all theoretical. But at that time Mike was dominating the heavyweight division, sharp, focused, hungry, and surrounded by a great corner (Cus, Rooney, Atlas). Evander wasn't even a heavyweight. Logically, I see Mike taking that fight at that juncture.
It's all about timing, and picking the right opponent at the right time. No up & comer wanted any piece of a 20-23 year old Tyson. That's why he "never fought anybody great" during his prime.
JunmaiShu 2 months ago
THATS WRONG.

Hell of a fight. To bad those times are gone from the heavy weight division.
Camaney81 3 years ago 5
When Freddie says "oh he get hit again, Tyson coming in" It was actually Tyson that landed a very fast and hard left that knocked Ruddock back. Tyson didn't get hit in that exchange.
Watthiman 3 years ago 5
could this ruddock have defeated lennox lewis i see a more hungry and determent razor tyson coach is a fucking moron! left hand right hand left hook that's what i learn the first day of boxing!! tyson should have never left rooney!
sdalliwall 3 years ago 5
I remember what BOXING magazine said following this fight, "All Ruddock proved is that he takes a good beating" or words to that effect. a little harsh I thought. Ruddock has heart but he was afraid of Mike, and for good reason every time he fought back he either lost the exchanges or got planted on his ass. That's not to say he didn't hit Mike with some bombs, He did but Mike is like a battleship. I remember Ruddock saying that no man 220 lbs should be able to take his shots like Mike did.
Watthiman 3 years ago
The commenting is all about how well Rudduck is standing up to the beating he is taking from Tyson. At no time do they ever suggest Rudduck has a chance of winning. Rudduck was a tough man and punched like a "mule kicks" according to Tyson, but in the end it was about surviving. He was too afraid of getting walloped. That's the difference, Mike is always concerned about walloping the other guy while the other guy is always concerned about being walloped by mike. It's about imposing your will

wakil99 3 years ago 5
And ruddock was never really the same after his lennox fight either, and what makes mike tyson a legend?
blackboygirl 3 years ago
He was never the same because of the beatings he took in 2 fights with Tyson; not because of Lennox. What makes him a legend? Please. Don't kid yourself; your hero Lennox only fought him when he knew he could beat him. Lennox, although great, will never be on the same level as a prime Mike.
boxerpuncherj 3 years ago 2
What makes mike Tyson a legend? His career!!! His fighting! George Foreman rates Tyson the 4th beat HW boxer of all time ahead of Ali. "He's my No 4 because the young Tyson was a genuine, destructive phenomenon."
Watthiman 3 years ago
yeah the reason why tyson gets shafted on lists of the best hw boxers is bc of the bite fight, like I give a fuck boxing isnt a moral sport to begin with but shit can ruddock take a beating, and in this fight tyson took more of a beating then when he faught douglas

and tyson didnt even had any cuts or swollen
if ruddock really punch that hard?
Megadeth72 3 years ago
Yeah, Mike is definately relying on power here compared to his earlier style. Still good defense, but not like the earlier peek-a-boo stuff. Walks in upright, loads up. The thing is, with that much power, he could get away with it.
