@HomelessBobblehead its cuz he can push his amp to get more natural overdrive bec aue it has less watts without blowing his easr drums out. bIf you want that tone u should either get a low wattage amp or a power attentuater which run about 300 for a hot plate
Nice video! I have a palomino v32 and really love the way it sounds. I told the guys at Guitar Center to let me try everything with my Gibson LP standard after store hours so I could listen and hear the differences between the Palomino V32, a Marshal JT 30 tube amp (which I own), and the a couple of fenders; Twin and Blues Jr. The Palomino V32 came home with me that night. The tone separated this amp from the others by a mile no joke. Im not selling mine.
A guitar amp is made up of the preamp and the power amp. Class A or AB refers to the configuration of the power amp. You can Google search it for all the technical details, but the bottom line is class A amps are in general lower powered with less headroom, but they are more responsive than class AB amps. Class AB amps are more efficient and can get more power out of the same amount of tubes. Class A = Vox style, class AB = Fender/Marshall style. Hope that helps!
True, but it is almost even when you consider that a 10 watt class A circuit is capable of producing the approximate decibel equivalent of a 15-18 watt class A/B circuit. A/B is more efficient when it comes to watts per tube, but Class A is more powerful when it comes to decibels per watt. They also sound drastically different in clean and overdriven tones, so the best advice for penguin is to try as many amps as possible, and FIND YOUR SOUND! Your ears will tell you. I can't stress that enough.
Hey, do you know sum about amps? What do you think between a crate palomino V32H 30W head with Crate Palomino V212 Speaker Cab for $800 or an orange tiny terror 15W with ppc112 cab, for 1100, Need some advice
I would go for the Orange, you can select the watts, that's a huge advantage when you are trying to get some tone without your neighbors complaining about the noise, but if you have a way to try both amps do it, it's the only way you will really know which one i for you ... mine would be the orange.
@funkaluca BOTH deals are dreadful value. you can pick the crate v32 combo up for a few hundred dollars. use a processor for house volume levels (i use an old zoom gfx-1 and its excellent) use a tubescreamer (a cheap one like the ts7) and a delay for gigging. $400-500 all up.
It sounds great, and a really good demo, but what's with the horrible buzz in the background the whole time? I have a mexi tele, so with my single coils the buzzing is bad enough. Would the palomino make it worse?
Just picked up a V32 off craigslist for $200. That's one hell of a amp for the money. It really shines with Fender single coils. The mechanical reverb great for surf.
dude these amps kill. I hope you got something good when you sold it because I have a V30 and it's awesome. I like it more than my fender deville and fender twin hands down.
I was looking at the V50 and it said it came with a spring footswitch. is this switch a switch for the channels? like to switch from an overdriven channel to a clean one?
if your talking about the crate v50, then idont think it does come with one because i just got the amp a few weeks ago but no footswitch! Plus, the reverb isnt switchable! Sorry!! btw, the v50 is an awesome amp though, better than genz benz or orange (in my opinion)!
Its how the tubes are biased. IE Class A means the tube is biased on 100% of the time and class B is on 50% of the time. Class B requires 2 tubes to create an accurate reproduction of the input stage.
Wow i have this exact same amp (palomino v32 USA made just like yours) with a similar guitar (1993 gibson les paul studio) and I can get pretty much get the EXACT same tone that you have in this video if I put the gain at a high level.
I'm just surprised at how well this video captures the actual sound of the amp. It does it justice!
If anyone is considering buying this amp, the sound in this video sounds EXACTLY like the amp would in your bedroom.
Agreed. I can't believe that awesome sound is coming out of a Crate amp! I have a Crate Palomino V8 as well and I can get it to sound mediocre at best, but if you turn the gain up past noon (mild overdrive), you get this harsh buzzy distortion that is very unmusical. My guess is that it comes from the solid state chip in the preamp, which generates more gain than just the 12ax7 tube alone. Would have been a better amp if they left off the extra crappy gain.
Basically, 'yes'... although the term 'self-biasing' is a bit of misnomer.
For a cleaner sound, you may wish to use 12AT7 tubes instead of 12AX7 tubes; especially in the phase inverter (the 3rd 12AX7) and the 2nd tube. You can swap all 3 of them, but I'd start there.
Also, a harder gas vacuum in the EL84 power tubes may help. Some tube manufacturers and tester/resellers actually grade their tubes. Ask around.
nice setting. what is the reverb at? i have this amp too, but i think the reverb could be better, doesn't relay matter to me though since i have a ibanez DE7. great playing, what is that bluesy riff at the end?
Maybe sounds more reververated because I was in open space, but was really low. What I didn't like was just the reverb, everything else I think is very good (In the usa made, I tested a couple of Vietnam made and all the pots were noisy), the reverb was just my excuse to sell it to get a Traynor (To be honest I miss the crunch of the crate now that I have the Traynor)
Well, mine came by UPS Wednesday and I think I've put in about 12 hours on it. Can't stop. This amp with NO PEDALs is kickin! On top of that I bought the AS73 Ibanez same day and can't believe the tone these two put out.
ok at first i didnt kno you were tryin to play back in black and that amp still sounded good!

hey is this amp "self Biasing???"
thank u.
ekofunkee 3 years ago
In short, it is cathode biased. You don't need to bias the power tubes when swapping out.
genxtargetmarket 3 years ago
so u can swapp the pre amp and power tubes anytime..and it'll bias it self? and what tubes u recommend to get more clean head room??? thank u

Sigh... O.K. I was kind of thinking that this would turn into an internet shit-fest.
The Blue Voodoo was a bad-ass. The VTX200S is an amazing amplifier. It is what I plug into every day.
All of the Blackheart sub-branded amps are killer. I love the Killer Ant.
The 50W V-series are great especially the ones that had the Tone Tubby™ speakers in them.

i forgot about the blackhearts, those are definitely nice. cant speak to the others you mentioned.

no, te palomino has more cuality components is like a deluxe v series, it has celestion spekers, the v series speakers are poor in cuality sound

Same thing, different color. There were speaker options available back in the day.
