@ahousekeeper The Difference is you can train a soldier to repair this with the right tools and parts while bringing enough fuel to keep it going. It wouldn't be any different from repairing Humvees and Tanks. You can't repair a broken leg of a donkey, camel, or horse out in the middle of nowhere. You ultimately have to shoot them as wan2shuffle said and lug the extra equipment. Plus you can't mount a M249 SAW on a donkey and have it act as automatic fire support, now can you?

If you're 30 miles out in the desert and soldiers are carrying 100lbs of gear, and the donkey is carrying 300lbs. It looses it footing and tumbles down a hill and breaks its leg. There's no Vets and you can't drag it with you. Can you replace the leg like you can with this or like you would a Humvee tire?

You can't carry a full package of spare parts and tools for a robot. Also, I am not really sure that fixing a robot is as easy as replacing a "tire", and who is going to carry all that spare parts? Also in most cases you don't need to carry "fuel" for a donkey or a horse with you.
@ahousekeeper Unless you have designed BigDog or have worked at Boston Dynamics, then you cant really say what parts the soldiers will have on them or if it will be hard to fix. Soldiers already carry about 100lbs of gear on their backs and that's not counting the weight from the vest/rig. Adding extra weight will only fatigue them completely before they reach their destination. Out in the desert with hardly any vegetation and very little water, yes you do.

The robot can be armored. They already have different plates that can withstand a .308 and this thing can run, jump, get back and follow you to cover. You haven't given me any disadvantages that can't be fixed easily with this than with a live animal.

@ahousekeeper The Difference is you can train a soldier to repair this with the right tools and parts while bringing enough fuel to keep it going. It wouldn't be any different from repairing Humvees and Tanks. You can't repair a broken leg of a donkey, camel, or horse out in the middle of nowhere. You ultimately have to shoot them as wan2shuffle said and lug the extra equipment. Plus you can't mount a M249 SAW on a donkey and have it act as automatic fire support, now can you?

@ahousekeeper Oh but I have. I have lived out in the country for 20 plus years and helped raise Horses and Pack Mules so I know what I'm talking about, but answer me this. If you're 30 miles out in the desert and soldiers are carrying 100lbs of gear, and the donkey is carrying 300lbs. It looses it footing and tumbles down a hill and breaks its leg. There's no Vets and you can't drag it with you. Can you replace the leg like you can with this or like you would a Humvee tire?

@CuervoBlack06 You just shoot the donkey and share 300lbs among the others. However, with the Humvee it may not be just a tire, but something more serious. You can't carry a full package of spare parts and tools for a robot. Also, I am not really sure that fixing a robot is as easy as replacing a "tire", and who is going to carry all that spare parts? Also in most cases you don't need to carry "fuel" for a donkey or a horse with you.

@ahousekeeper Unless you have designed BigDog or have worked at Boston Dynamics, then you cant really say what parts the soldiers will have on them or if it will be hard to fix. Soldiers already carry about 100lbs of gear on their backs and that's not counting the weight from the vest/rig. Adding extra weight will only fatigue them completely before they reach their destination. Out in the desert with hardly any vegetation and very little water, yes you do.

@ahousekeeper With anything they teach you in the military they have to train you extensively on it. Whether it be working on tanks, planes, trucks or generators. No such thing as minimal training. The robot can be armored. They already have different plates that can withstand a .308 and this thing can run, jump, get back and follow you to cover. You haven't given me any disadvantages that can't be fixed easily with this than with a live animal.

@pitcrew Don't forget they're also working on a Cheetah robot along with Petmans twin brother Atlas. Look up FastRunner by ihmc! It's a robotic Ostrich being built with help from MIT and funded by DARPA . It can already run at 20mph from a dead stop on flat and uneven terrain, and could reach as high as 50mph in 2 years.
