Hi, Maynardcat. Dave here. Did some dj work in New Smyrna Beach, FL in '57-'58. "Born Too Late" brings back memories of AF basic training at Lackland AFB, after the TI's left in the p.m. we'd break out the radios, stick 'em in the windows & our area would rock and mellow out, too. Earl Grant's "The End" was out then, too. Then, let's see, was "Summertime Blues" out then? How about "Volare?" Thanks for the memories at 71.
There are a few on ebay now ranging from 465.00 for one not working, fair condition, and missing parts to others in working condition and restored condition up to 5.495. They have been much higher than the 5.495 in restored condition in better economic times. On ebay just enter Seeburg R.
@alanheath There are vintage jukebox suppliers that have parts, and certain parts are remanufactured. There are also parts available from time to time on ebay
@maynardcat I suppose that people who really want the parts will make them - of course it won't be original manufacturer.
It is a bit like having an unusual car I suppose. I would be frightened of something going wrong knowing I could not get the part. Mind you, they dont seem to have done too badly in Cuba using the same cars for the past fifty plus years!
hello nice video I noticed that you have the cartridgee put in backwards you have the side b side for the a side turn the cartridge around . it will sound better I work with jukes and that will ruin the needle faster the way you have the cartridge installed . but it is a great juke box and enjoy
Hi Tough213 You are very observant, and yes it was in backwards for about one day. I am one of the very few that own the stereo cartridge upgrade kit put out by Seeburg. Unlike the stereo tonearm that prevents backward installation, it allows it to be inserted backwards if you are not careful. Later Pickering just made a two prong mono version of the stereo cartridge which simply installed in the mono cartridge shell. The advantage of the kit enables you to use the less expensive stereo cart
The Morris Stoloff Orch. had the #1 bestselling record in the land, on June 9, 1956, on DECCA. There was also a Top Ten selling version by the George Cates Orch. on Coral.
The movie it was taken from "Picnic" was a smash hit, and starred William Holden. It made a big star of newcomer, Kim Novak.
Nice video playing a song that was probably played on it back when it was new. The only thing is that you pan too long on the needle and record not the rest of the jukebox...gets a little boring to watch, but great to hear.
My sweetheart gave me this song in 2000. He was an actor & he sure knew how to be romantic. Everytime I hear it my mind goes back to when we were together. Even though he's not here any longer, he's in my heart & so is this song. For you romantic men, if you want a woman to melt, give her this one & everytime she hears it she'll fall in love all over again. Thanks for posting it. God bless you.
This isn't the original complete version. I didn't think so when it started. The tempo is just a fraction more upbeat. It also goes to the violins too quickly. I bought it on cassette of Instrumental Legends fm infommercial on TV and then managed to get the CD on Ebay. It's a little over 4 min long. Time here is shorter also considering time to set up on jukebox. Nice but not the best one. I know so much bec it's my favorite pop instrumental bar none, was 12 or 13 when it came out.
I understand how this could be a favorite. Thanks for the info. I was just thinking that of all the versions I have heard of this song,I like this one the best. Seems closest to the actual version in the movie which is the version I fell in love with. Thanks again.
Hi, Yes, it's closest to full length version which is somehow also fuller, richer. I remember reclining in my Mom's chaisse(sp?) lounge on screened in porch in summer w/breeze drifting fragrance fm a flowering bush in outside corner of porch and I love the brushes on the drums, the rhythm. If I had the software and knew how to do it I'd post it, but I'm ignorant, alas.
Hey, what a nice visual you just gave me. Thanks. The rhythm is perfect for me. I am illiterate when it comes to the technical aspect of computers and the ins and outs of these web postings. I am happy to just watch, listen, read and occasionally comment. Nice talking with you.
Hi bon1042. This version is shorter, necessary to get it on reg 45. I have a rare extd play 45 4 record album from Picnic. It has yet a different longer version than one used in movie. Piano more pronounced before going more softly into the violins.
I never, ever get tired of this song. Hope you'll add my response from your Seeburg's younger cousin!

The Moonglow/Picnic version from the movie has always been my favorite. I can see Kim and Wm. Holden dancing every time I hear it. Thanks!

I think the Stolloff version is by far the best. It sounded complete to me as I have the movie on dvd. Thanks for the memories
