Seems a little homoerotic to me, notice how the waiter has a well defined, muscular body with no body hair, Drop Dead Fred's screenplay was written by a pair of guys who haven't gone on to sscript any other features since.
@ladner3000moviebuff I found your commment odd and homophobic. Your assumption that two gay writers wouldn't be asked to write feature films again after featuring one nude male who's "well defined, muscular body" seems to have irked you. Ask yourself if you'd say the same had it been a woman nude, and if the answer is no, then you have issues. Besides, plenty of gay writers exist in hollywood. And Drop Dead Fred is an ICONIC film.
@alpuretim I'm far from homophobic, i'm just pointing out that i find it a little bit odd they wrote it as a guy being disrobed rather than a women, generally a guy would write it as such, why a guy to begin with? A woman would have pushed it's PG-13 rating? fell free to express your thoughts on it (if you're gay i have no problem with it, i'm accepting of gay people, sorry if i came off that way)
@alpuretim In terms of writing a scene, in a pretentious art gallery, that there would be muscled adonis walking around serving drinks, to me feels perfectly right. If it were Hooters, or a PlayBoy club.. then sure.. you'd expect a woman - But I found this casting choice perfect. The fact you took time out of your day to even mention the sexuality of the people behind a film, then commented 'they've never worked again' - I find depressing. Even more so if you claim to be "accepting".
@alpuretim But it would seem Fred, based on his penchant for gazing up women's skirts would be delighted you would assume to undress a woman, even fred's maturity level is arrested around a seven or eight year old's mentality. There WERE plenty of attractive waitresses walking about serving wine and food, why a prankster like Fred wouldn't try and see if they were going commando underneath their costumes like the aformentioned nude waiter is puzzling.
@ladner3000moviebuff A prankster will only prank people he finds attractive. You are making such a odd arguement. Fixating on the fact a movie would dare show an attractive guy nude. Buddy, go to the gym, do some squats and stop the hate. When does even Fred look at the guy? Fred NEVER glances back, he just causes some havoc and goes about his business. Never even looks back. The only guy that seems to be focusing on the guy is, well, you.
@alpuretim Do you frequent a gym? Why do you assume i'm enamored of his body, you still haven't given a logical explaination why he didn't do the same with one of the women on the wait staff, if i were an invisible, irreverent entity only but one person could see i would surely disrobe a woman, rather than some "hunk". One credible theory could be that Fred's best friend,Elizabeth, would much rather see a naked guy than the opposite sex, and that could be the reason
@ladner3000moviebuff If Fred had disrobbed a woman he'd be coming across as chauvinistic as you come across in your bothersome comments. Fred is a prankster, an imp, he isn't a pervert - and I think a muscular man, in the context of the scene, works perfectly. You on the other hand are bothered by it. Seek help.
@alpuretim I have no quibble about the revealed waiter, the guest at the party were delighted & the women got to ogle some bare male flesh, which is usually absent altogether from most films, Drop Dead Fred, like other forgotten cult relics, is getting a needless remake from a major studio (Universal aquired the rights, god knows why) so with luck the scene in question here at the art gala will be revised to a hot woman being stripped
@alpuretim After scrolling down to the comments section, this debate i found to be both amusing and a little one sided, i'll give the writer's a credit for originality in this case, but the guy has a point: why would undressing a chick at the wine party not be as funny as with the guy? You seem to get real defensive when he was suggesting it should have been a woman, and i agree, though i admit it still caused a chuckle or two for me, whats your problem?
@ladner3000moviebuff ....that's ridiculous. What does having body hair have to do with being homoerotic or not homoerotic?! They wouldn't make someone shave their butt
@gsotoaz Call it a poor choice of words, what i meant was Drop Dead Fred's writers, who happen to both be guys, scripted the one nude scene featuring a buff, ripped handsome waiter as opposed to a woman, when especially today another male screenwriter would have made it the other end of the spectrum. I'm assuming the writers on this film were gay, or at least one was
I know what I would have helped the handsome waiter grab

@ladner3000moviebuff It's a common movie rule that MOST actors are ask to wax or shave their backside before doing scenes such as this one.
