This is so wonderful, it brought tears to my eyes.....I am 73 yo and in my youth I was in europe for several years and fell in love with French accordian music. I was in the US Air Force and had a friend who played accordion..I played the acoustic guitar and we would play gigs at bars in Spain ( was stationed in Spain). What is so funny is that my friend had to read sheet music and I played by ear......didnt matter...sounded great anyway. "Under Paris Skys" was one of our favorites.

I believe it is a good first instrument to learn. The accordion was my first instrument.

Unless you're really good picking up a song by ear, reading a sheet to learn a song is probably the best way to go.

If I can play the piano to grade 5 standard, will I find it fairly easy to transfer my skills to accordion? I imagine the hardest part would be the melody played on the keys rather than using the bass buttons?

i did the same thing (move from piano to accordion) the two issues are transfering playing from horizontal to vertical and also using the bass buttons
