  • A Jamieson Take: A Classic! You don't have to think twice about what's being said.

"I love you so. How much you'll never know." If only...in reality...love only me."

Enjoy...A Taste of Honey. Please refer to Heart's Medley, 1985-1996,

    "Never Alone & There's a Girl".

    With loving eyes & heart,

  • this is not an original american version of this song. There was Japanese man who sang this very version of this song and he also did it in english. Most likely recorded in the late 60"s. Can someone help me and tell me who that japanese artist is? It is the best english version to this song with these lyrics.

  • @jogmas12 Kyu Sakamoto there you go.

  • I am partial to originals, mainly because they are original. I am not a fan of covers. This is an exception. This version of Sukiyaki is probably one of the best remakes ever.

  • @777butch777 Agreed

  • nice

  • I think this song inspired MaryJ Blige's 1997 song, "Everything."

  • @armany02 Mary J. "Everything" was a remake of the stylistics," Everything is You", check it out.

  • @king1969100 Sorry, "You are Everything" is actually the name of the song by the stylistics.

  • @king1969100 Hmm, interesting. Personally, I see the connection a lot more with MaryJ and this song (with the melody) more than with The Stylistics' "Everything is You." Just me.

  • so this is where bone thugs got the intro from...very interesting lol

  • Takes me straight back to Ralph Rangel houses (Colonial projects) in Harlem River Drive. I was 3 back then.

  • I remember hearing this song as a kid. It was the early 60's I think. Wasn't it a male singer? I didn't know it was Japanese

  • Susan Boyle is going to cover this for Japan only on her new CD - in response to the earthquake and tsunami. It should sound very beautiful.

  • RIP kyu Sakamoto died by being a passenger of JAL123. on August,1985. #prayandhelpforJapan311

  • This and "Something New" were featured on Soul Train. Amazing time.

  • it is very sad that the orginal guy (Kyu Sakamoto-sang this song) died in the plane crash...I dedicated this new version of your song to you!!!!!! RIP

  • @candyrnld That's not how dedications work.

  • @barophobia ...?????????

  • @candyrnld You don't get to dedicate something that's not yours.

  • @barophobia...who says it is mine!!! I don't know what info u got his from!!!

  • @candyrnld ...I do not think he would be very happy to have this altered"new version"dedicated to Him. But I do understand your heart.

  • @TheMrMegasamurai ...I think you are right but Thanks You for understanding my heart about Mr. Kyu Sakamoto...thank you again

  • Correction: K.S. died in the mid-80`s. Sorry.

  • Does everybody know that the original title for "Sukiyaki" is "Ue oh muite aruko" by the late original singer ,Kyu "Kyu-chan" Sakamoto. It translates to something like "Walk with your head up", probably after a heartbreak. He died tragically in an airplane accident in the late 70`s. He`s probably turning in his grave with this American title.Would you like it if somebody named your song,"Stew"?

  • @TheMrMegasamurai Yes, a critic mused in the 60's what Henry Mancini might have said if he had had his song "Moon River" named "Meatloaf" :)

  • @TheMrMegasamurai Yeah, it's unfortunate that a very good piece of art was ....uh...well, Americanized. Realize though, it happened because of "the times." Back then (early 60s), Americans knew very little about Japan or things Japanese. (or much else East Asian, for that matter) Except for food and a few place names, "our" knowledge and interest was very limited. (Can you say ignorant?) Today, it wouldn't happen (I hope). But, whatever the "title", the song is a great piece of music.

  • v=61FwLrRXGf0 has version by Jewel Akens with lyrics more faithful to the Japanese lyrics.

  • Okay I am asking for some help here severel years ago I found what I considered a good disco/dance version of this song wasn't by TOH and it was on another accountwhere you share files but that computer crashed and can't remember the info for it. My question is doesn't anyone know of such a version of this song out there? Please help thank you in advance!

  • great copy just like i remember it, mos def a "CLASSIC"

  • Lodi Dodi, we likes to party

  • SLICK RICK

  • @andrewburton12345678 yes, i thought the intro lyrics sounded familiar haha

  • im so happy i found this song when i was little i had heard a copy of the song in spanish and now that im older i found this version and it moves me.

  • This is one of the few songs that puts me back into a good mood.

  • Nothing can touch the original but I gotta say that this is my favourite cover of the song ever.

  • This is where "Slick Rick" got that line used in "Lotti Dotti".

  • Janice-Marie.....Beautiful- looks and voice!

  • Heard the original after this version, I liked it but Taste of Honey did a better rendition. Appreciate the fact it's almost impossible to improve a song -- but they did!!!

  • As with all copies, some of the original is lost.

  • never as good as the best.

  • The musical accompaniment on this song is spine-tingling.

  • I really like the way she says "mine, all mine."

  • wow! I've got goosebumps. And I want to give her all my money.

  • im too cool to boogie

  • I guess you'd call this a QUIET CLASSIC. Beautiful.

  • Beauuutful Song!!!

  • another great song.

  • this is beautiful, gave me goosebumps.

  • I sang this song in my $H camp talent show in 4th grade because they would not let me sing goodbye to romance by ozzy... good song! Cheers to versatility and good music.

  • Não sei porque mas essa musica mexe muito comigo.

  • I remember hearing this song about OCT 1981

  • is one of the ladies part african american and japanese?

  • @MrJacMac1986 I believe Janice Marie Johnson is part African American part Native American (Stockbridge-Munsee-Mohican)

  • @dermblue how are u gonna make it sounds like you're guessing then have 3 specific tribes, two of which I've never even heard of, hahahah

  • sa・yo・na・ra~ ^^b

  • takes me back to high school , the ultimate jam when it came out ....slow dancing at king ridge club house

  • epic one for memories whoa

  • The 4PM version from 1994-95 is pretty good.

  • Once again, as I have already stated, the actual song was recorded in 1979 (so it says in Wikipedia) and was released on a limited basis on certain radio stations throughout the U.S. late that year. I heard it that year on a radio station in Phoenix who call sign escapes my memory as it was so very, very long ago. Boogie Oogie came out in 1978 and has no relevance to my point!

  • Beautiful song!!

  • YES!! Ive heard the Japanese version too & I LOVE that one too~ even so far as to LEARN it...

  • I cant help but to think of one special person while listening to this song...

  • memories indeed!!

  • one of the most beautiful tune ever!!! just exquisite <3

  • This song came out in 1979, Fall---not 1981! Look it up!

  • @chuckbuckbobuck It came out late 1980 and charted its peak in spring 1981. Look it up!!!

  • Love it good memories

  • As a small kid (6 or 7) I heard the "original" version of this song. I was moved. I didn't understand a word of it! But I WAS MOVED. This version, ....well, it too is good. I don't think there's any denying it, because this TUNE is so damn good. In any language it's appealing.

  • @richardmbowman Same! I used to listen to it when i was really little and loved it. Still do. It's so soothing. I've heard a few versions of it, but i always go back to the original version.

I played it (Japanese version) at my party this year... much to all of my friends disgust. So what if i'm only sixteen. It's a bloody good song! :P

  • @DaynaKristene You play watcha want to!! Maybe your classy likes in music will rub off on others of your genereation. Peace. :_

  • @DaynaKristene you have good taste.

  • @koffeebrwn Bahahaha! Thanks? (:

  • @DaynaKristene I hear you & appreciate the fact that you can recognize GOOD music regardless of the peer pressure...my oldest is 17 & he has similiar views when it comes to GOOD music.....thank you & don't settle for ANYTHING just because your friends think that is what you're suppose to do when it comes to GOOD taste in music or your LIFE decisions...

  • I was 20 when I first heard this version. I had learned the Japanese version fron Kyu Sakamoto, and loved it. But this is great, especially in English.

  • I was 8y/o and still remember this song word for word. True Classic

  • Okay but Kyu, Blue Diamonds and Bob Dylan's are still my favorite version.

    Lyrics totally rewritten.
