That's not an automatic, it's motorized you could consider it sequential. Automatics shift when more or less torque is needed, you're shifting it not the torque. It's still a nice gearbox i just wanted to clear that up.
@invisibleninjakitty for this video, the gearbox shifts sequentially; however, there is another video for that gearbox that shifting occurs according to the amount of torque required. (actually rpm is considered)
I built one just like that, where it was in a lego RC car. It was driven by 2 XL motors, and had N, 1, 2, 3, 4, R. With 2 XL motors, I needed to put in a clutch gear to prevent breakage. It was hooked up with independent suspension, brakes, and rack and pinion steering. It was cool to see it move, although it quickly got out of range of the controller.
how many total ratios does it go through? i have personally made a 3-speed automatic transmission with far less parts, but using two motors as you have. very good tranny, but have you applied it to a moving vehicle?
i don't know exactly but probably there was over than 20 ratios. yes this gbx is made for a moving vehicle (so it's so big so as to be strong) that you can see this videos in my channel.

how did you manage to use only one motor to shift gears?

i used elastic :)...

neat creation but can't really get a good look at how it works, perhaps you could pull back the camera a little or show if from different angels.
very cool though

Fascinating, I tried to do something similar with my Mindstorms 2.0 kit, but I ran out of pieces :S
How many speeds do you have?
TorikuTheTraveller 4 years ago
I think it has three.
skaf7 4 years ago
it has three gears, controlled by one motor
