Somehow the film seems the most realistic depiction of alien invasion, at least in the first 30 minutes of the film. Especially realistic is the scene the alien ships arrive in the atmosphere around the globe, TV channels show scary people and mass-hysteria and everyone stop doing what they were doing and just stare the ship.
I love this movie but untill today I hadnt seen it in years and it was so cool I forgot what a great movie it is. It always makes me cry for some reason its a bit of a weepie. And O.M.G hottie Will Smith is so cute, funny and adoreable. The whole movie is full of great one liners and the soundtrack is amazeing. Pure 90s classic. Thankyou for posting this. :)

Y'know, this was supposed to be my weekend off. But no! You got me out here, draggin' your heavy ass, through the burnin' desert, with your dreadlocks sticking out the back of my parachute. You gotta come down here with an attitude, actin' all big and bad. And WHAT THE HELL IS THAT SMELL? I could've been at a barbecue!
@SuperBookWorm23 i think it is the part when the mothership comes in because it has those slight pauses where i seem to remember everybody looking up at this badass alien shit we have no chance in taking out unless one great man sacrifices himself:D

@julianzolo the way they finished the movie is too weak to phathom! an alien race that cant secure their computers should not have lasted that long! and even without the shiled they have more advanced fighters. how can a sidewinder hit one so easy? and the mothership should not be a giant cherry can that explodes with one nuke! its all a poor show!

@unownace Diameter of the second Deathstar is around the 180 KM, Independence day mother ship is 800 KM. Second Deathstars coaxial superlaser has 8 laser junction and only needs 3 to 5 junctions to blow up an earth size planet (depending on mass). Meaning only 1 or 2 junctions are needed to blow up ID mothership. ID ships are cool, but still need a million years of improvement to deal with starwars ships. But that does not mean that ID mothership is EPIC in size XD
@Armedias But remember the Independence day ships have virtualy impenetrable shields. So until the empire finds a way to get around the mothership's shields, the Death Star would probably have great difficulty defeating the mothership.
@unownace Star Trek has shield, Stargate has shield, ID ships have shield, starwars ships have shield, in terms of science fiction, shield are not that rare :P. All those shield are impossible to penetrate for our technologie at the moment, (yes, all can survive nukes) only how strong are those shield compared to eachothers weapons. Even so, the deathstar can blow up planets, FREAKIN PLANETS!!! It will blast through its shield in a matter of seconds.
@unownace (damn 500 restriction <_<) What i would more like to see is an Executor class Super Star Destroyer vs an ID4 city size UFO . They are around the same size (ID4 is the bigger one), both have a great amount of fighters, all with great firepower (at least the interceptor t-fighter) and shields.
this scene where they show JUST how huge those spaceships are is amazing yet terrifying. the movie delivered, no if ands or buts about it. they should make more movies like this.
"Y'know, this was supposed to be my weekend off, but noooo. You got me out here draggin' your heavy ass through the burnin' desert with your dreadlocks stickin' out the back of my parachute. You gotta come down here with an attitude, actin' all big and bad...AND WHAT THE HELL IS THAT SMELL?!"

@Nadav34 firstly fair game good plan secondly im more evil why? because this is how you do do evil you rally the humans to fight with all there might you give there lives meaning glory and hope shall pervade the darkness of the invasion the humans will stand and fight with you adn then at out highes tmoment
@Nadav34 you will turn and help the alins decimat ehtem thereby annihlating both races and if your smart having some big bombs left over to finish the survivors after you take all the supplie su need jack an alien ship n leave this shitty world to rot! now THATS evil mate
If I was the President, after the win I'm thinking:
-OH THANK GOD! I won't be the President who sees the nation go down in smoke! (I'll leave that for Congress...I thought that President Obama's Congress was bad for fighting and acting like 2 year olds...were all mine killed by the alien attack or something, do I have to do it all myself?)
-Will Smith,be my running mate next election (and let's get that space program going so this doesn't happen again!)
...you gotta come down here with an attitude, actin' all big and bad..... AND WHAT THE HELL IS THAT SMELL!? I COULD'VE BEEN AT A BARBECUE!! But I ain't mad.
hmmm maybe they should make a prequel instead?you know, when before earth was attacked they should make a movie about how the other planets got destroyed
I'm very apprehensive about the sequels, but hey, I mean, I gotta go see it. It'd be blasphemy as an Independence Day fan if I didn't. Besides, it's got Will Smith, so... it'll be awesome.
this was my favorite part when this song was playing. it was amazing how the ufo or what eve they are called comeing out of there cloud cloke. it was an amazing movie and thx my sister to not letting me watch it anymore -_-
well im pretty confident if they make a sequel of independence day it will be epic..just as long as the story includes most of the original actors and actresses of the film and ofcourse the plot and special effects of the second film have to be epic too
Isn't it funny how at certain parts of the music we can actually remember what each actor says and where it takes place? Movie soundtracks are sooo soo important.
this music is NOT written and composed by David Arnold. He stole it from a man named TERRY HERALD> David should have never accepted awards for this while someone that worked so hard is sittting at home going "This is my music... I worked so hard"
Religion is the most powerful conversion tool ever discovered, promise someone the right to eternal life and you discover that people will do anything for it, including genocide. And the only reason that the hates every religion except Catholicism church controlled everybody is because the kings were brainwashed, notice how the best leaders don't let religion lead them.
I also pray to the gods of the universe, that one day galactic piece and harmony resonates throughout the cosmos, for it is only in the true understanding of our alien peers civilization that the manical carnage of war can ever be justified. Let us not be those who cast the first stone, even if they do have binary shields
When the Alien Spacecraft makes its entrance over the Manhattan Bridge from Brooklyn it heads uptown toward 34th Street/5th Ave where it stops above the Empire State Building and waits to execute Plan Doomsday for NYC
I wonder why ppl always think that intelligent life in outer space have to be more advanced than us...I mean, many inventions and discoveries throughout our history were made by accident...what if civilizations on another planet haven't had such "accidents"...for all we know they might be living in the medieval times...maybe we are the most advanced civilization there is in the galaxy? no one knows
Assuming infinite time and space our tiny 6-10 thousand year old civilization looks quite undeveloped compared to our sun's age (which is still a young one)... Imagine a race 1 billion years old... (1 000 000 000 years of science compared to our 10 000 years)
@Andretti147 well yeah, but imagine if we really are the most advanced civilization in the universe? I mean, wouldn't it be funny we spent billions of dollars on sending signals out in the space, only to discover an alien civilization 3000 years from now...and that this civilization is on the same level as ours is at present time :P
we come to their planet and they just invented the tv
We're amazed at pyramids, although those are ~3000 year old. Even with our 3000 year older tech we search the way how they built it with such young tech.
3000 years from now I guess we would be the same way amazed that how the hell could they project those ions in the tv and crt displays without any super advanced things.
Think of the romans. They had half europe. Though a letter needed months to arrive from one end to the other, they still could control it. It's more amazing than funny.
I know, how 1 person can maintain order in entire Europe (even our of Europe) using no phone, no e-mail, nothing but a letter.. And here we are so many years later and leaders are having trouble keeping order in the smallest countries.. Our leaders could have definately learned something from the Roman Emperors, ven if it is how to behead a man and put his head on a stake as a warning lol
@Andretti147 yes well, my point is that if it turns out that our civilization is the most technological developed, the billions spent on the SETI program are totally wasted...money that could have been used to feed all the starving ppl in the world.
@DeathWarrant90 It's not my, or Hungary's, or the EU's job, to keep alive all the people, who starve. That's a rather socialist view. I think, that a person or a country can spend the earned money (after taxation) at his own will. The more you work, the more you earn, the more you can spend. And more work can mean higher quality, not hours necessarily. And money can't help the poor on a long term. "Give a man a fish, and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime"
@Andretti147 what if the country suffers from corruption and they dont have the same opportunity of economic prosperity like Western countries?? that are some of the issues
@DeathWarrant90 That's the case with Hungary as well, corruption and idiot leaders. If it's a democracy, then the people have the power to change the reigning cabinet, new parties appear that represent 'clean' politics and people vote on that party, IF they are smart and don't fall to lies. If it's not a democracy, then it's harder, but a revolution can set them 'free'. Idealistic views, but they don't have to bare the burden. After a change they have the chance to learn from the successful ones
@DeathWarrant90 From my viewpoint, feeding the starving ppl is like wasting money. Help them building up a flourishing country not with money but with information. Knowing things means a lot more than money. By knowing a profession you earn money, to buy what you don't know e.g. building a house. By knowing that we are the most advanced civ. in the world, we will capitalise on that, and in time the invested money will return. There are risks in every investment, this is just another risky one.
@DeathWarrant90 If you know enough why do you need opportunity? You want to build something, you list the things you need. 1 money, 2 workforce, 3 material. You work for money, there is always something to do, that's why I don't understand homeless on the street. There is so much garbage, they can work on a garbage truck. Oh that they don't want to clean toilets 12 hours a day, too bad, die on the pavement. There is no such thing as no opportunity, you can always create one with a little effort.
@Andretti147 it is better to teach a man to fish, than giving him the fish....to teach him how to fish so you won't have to give him the fish, you'll have to give him a fishing rod instead...without the fishing rod he'll have no opportunities to catch any fish no matter if he has the knowledge how to use the fishing rod. Thus, information without opportunity is futile.
@DeathWarrant90 or it would be even funnier if they were in their calendar year 2012... because it would be ironic... our world doesn't end in 2012... we just go to a different planet in the far future and their calendar year just so happens to be 2012... and they just invented the ipod
Yeah it's scary, knowing there is some other civilisation out there (oh there is, don't believe we're alone..) with a science we could only dream of, god help us when they figure out where we are and they plan not to like us..
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
No aliens as we want to believe are out there, in this dimension atleast, because Christ only mentioned demons and the nephilim, the physical demon offspring, the demons ARE amog us, and the US government is building them spaceships, they have since 1945 after operation paperclip.
Religion is not what you like to think it is, religion is just a control of order... and good at it as well. It layed down some good rules, do not murder and all. But don't believe that what religion says is truth because it is not, it is very far away from the truth.
For instance, there is nothing morally wrong with just going out, finding a nice looking lady, and fucking her all night long that same day you met her.
Dude I have done my share of research, trust me, I have been an atheist my whole life, just up until very recently, a few years back. Just watch featured video on my channel and learn about a fraction about what is kept away from humanity.
And the common christian is as ignorant as many of the atheists out there, they too do not know what's going on. It's just a few people that have this knowledge.
@ProjectVRD There is no christianity anymore, it has pretty much never been any real christianity, and the elite of the world has ALWAYS worked for the demons, up to this day, people let them be ruled by the elite not by christianity, christianity is a personal relationship with the lord of this universe, the Christ.
The only reason the church controlled people back then wasï

If I was the President, after the win I'm thinking:
-OH THANK GOD! I won't be the President who sees the nation go down in smoke! (I'll leave that for Congress...I thought that President Obama's Congress was bad for fighting and acting like 2 year olds...were all mine killed by the alien attack or something, do I have to do it all myself?)
-Will Smith,be my running mate next election (and let's get that space program going so this doesn't happen again!)
-I'd BETTER be on Rushmore for this

I'm very apprehensive about the sequels, but hey, I mean, I gotta go see it. It'd be blasphemy as an Independence Day fan if I didn't. Besides, it's got Will Smith, so... it'll be awesome.

That would mean the Stargate soundtrack is not from David Arnold...

DeathWarrant90 2 years ago 4
Assuming infinite time and space our tiny 6-10 thousand year old civilization looks quite undeveloped compared to our sun's age (which is still a young one)... Imagine a race 1 billion years old... (1 000 000 000 years of science compared to our 10 000 years)
Andretti147 2 years ago
@Andretti147 well yeah, but imagine if we really are the most advanced civilization in the universe? I mean, wouldn't it be funny we spent billions of dollars on sending signals out in the space, only to discover an alien civilization 3000 years from now...and that this civilization is on the same level as ours is at present time :P
we come to their planet and they just invented the tv
DeathWarrant90 2 years ago 4
We're amazed at pyramids, although those are ~3000 year old. Even with our 3000 year older tech we search the way how they built it with such young tech.
3000 years from now I guess we would be the same way amazed that how the hell could they project those ions in the tv and crt displays without any super advanced things.
Think of the romans. They had half europe. Though a letter needed months to arrive from one end to the other, they still could control it. It's more amazing than funny.
Andretti147 2 years ago 2
I know, how 1 person can maintain order in entire Europe (even our of Europe) using no phone, no e-mail, nothing but a letter.. And here we are so many years later and leaders are having trouble keeping order in the smallest countries.. Our leaders could have definately learned something from the Roman Emperors, ven if it is how to behead a man and put his head on a stake as a warning lol
laurensmalter 1 year ago
yeah, learn from Romans eh? By having soldiers on every street you mean?
;-)
ProjectVRD 1 year ago
@Andretti147 yes well, my point is that if it turns out that our civilization is the most technological developed, the billions spent on the SETI program are totally wasted...money that could have been used to feed all the starving ppl in the world.
DeathWarrant90 1 year ago
@DeathWarrant90 It's not my, or Hungary's, or the EU's job, to keep alive all the people, who starve. That's a rather socialist view. I think, that a person or a country can spend the earned money (after taxation) at his own will. The more you work, the more you earn, the more you can spend. And more work can mean higher quality, not hours necessarily. And money can't help the poor on a long term. "Give a man a fish, and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime"
Andretti147 1 year ago
@Andretti147 what if the country suffers from corruption and they dont have the same opportunity of economic prosperity like Western countries?? that are some of the issues
DeathWarrant90 1 year ago
@DeathWarrant90 That's the case with Hungary as well, corruption and idiot leaders. If it's a democracy, then the people have the power to change the reigning cabinet, new parties appear that represent 'clean' politics and people vote on that party, IF they are smart and don't fall to lies. If it's not a democracy, then it's harder, but a revolution can set them 'free'. Idealistic views, but they don't have to bare the burden. After a change they have the chance to learn from the successful ones
Andretti147 1 year ago
@DeathWarrant90 From my viewpoint, feeding the starving ppl is like wasting money. Help them building up a flourishing country not with money but with information. Knowing things means a lot more than money. By knowing a profession you earn money, to buy what you don't know e.g. building a house. By knowing that we are the most advanced civ. in the world, we will capitalise on that, and in time the invested money will return. There are risks in every investment, this is just another risky one.
Andretti147 1 year ago
@Andretti147 information without opportunity is futile
DeathWarrant90 1 year ago
@DeathWarrant90 If you know enough why do you need opportunity? You want to build something, you list the things you need. 1 money, 2 workforce, 3 material. You work for money, there is always something to do, that's why I don't understand homeless on the street. There is so much garbage, they can work on a garbage truck. Oh that they don't want to clean toilets 12 hours a day, too bad, die on the pavement. There is no such thing as no opportunity, you can always create one with a little effort.
Andretti147 1 year ago
@Andretti147 it is better to teach a man to fish, than giving him the fish....to teach him how to fish so you won't have to give him the fish, you'll have to give him a fishing rod instead...without the fishing rod he'll have no opportunities to catch any fish no matter if he has the knowledge how to use the fishing rod. Thus, information without opportunity is futile.
DeathWarrant90 4 months ago
@DeathWarrant90 or it would be even funnier if they were in their calendar year 2012... because it would be ironic... our world doesn't end in 2012... we just go to a different planet in the far future and their calendar year just so happens to be 2012... and they just invented the ipod
marioman102594 1 year ago
Yeah it's scary, knowing there is some other civilisation out there (oh there is, don't believe we're alone..) with a science we could only dream of, god help us when they figure out where we are and they plan not to like us..

No aliens as we want to believe are out there, in this dimension atleast, because Christ only mentioned demons and the nephilim, the physical demon offspring, the demons ARE amog us, and the US government is building them spaceships, they have since 1945 after operation paperclip.
Xendrius 1 year ago
Christ has no say in the matter Xendrius.

Xendrius 1 year ago
@ProjectVRD There is no christianity anymore, it has pretty much never been any real christianity, and the elite of the world has ALWAYS worked for the demons, up to this day, people let them be ruled by the elite not by christianity, christianity is a personal relationship with the lord of this universe, the Christ.
The only reason the church controlled people back then wasï
