Too bad she's not a Time Lord so she could regenerate! Imagine how the kids who were her co-stars feel after so many years working with her. RIP Sarah Jane... You most certainly will be missed, but the world is much better after your many contributions to it.

@bearchub4u I have been thinking about that. I don't think the next series will be complete, so sad! The irony being that she almost drowned during filming of 'Revenge Of The Cybermen' in 1975, but was saved by the late stuntman Terry Walsh. And what about her husband & daughter?!

I can't believe this. She was my favorite companion. I loved Sarah Jane Smith and Elisabeth Sladen was just so amazing as her. I don't think anyone else could have played her better. When I heard about this two days ago I was hoping it was just a joke, or a mistake. I guess it wasn't. Last night my friends and I toasted to her. I think we talked about her and Doctor Who for hours.
Elisabeth Sladen may you rest in peace.

I wasn't even aware that she had cancer. Furthermore, I didn't realize she had passed away until now! Am I really that uncaring? Yet why do I still tear up when I hear the news? I just can't believe that she's gone.

Elisabeth Sladen is the Queen of Doctor Who! She was the one companion that everyone loved and connected with. She even got her own show because her character is a fan favorite. She was the best actress ever on Doctor Who.

I wonder if they'll reference it in canon? I know they never have for the others, but there's something special with Sarah Jane. And it doesn't feel like her story has ended yet, although it's a sad piece of irony that her last adventure was titled, "Goodbye, Sarah Jane."

Hey! Lizo didn't mention she was in the Doctor Who Series 4 finale. I still can't believe she's gone. It probably won't sink in properly for a while. First Nick Courtney, then Lis. But both Lis and Sarah Jane will never be forgotten. She appeared with Patrick Troughton (Five Doctors), Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison (Five Doctors), David Tennant and Matt Smith. Her memory and legacy will be forever cherished by fans and casual viewers alike. Farewell, Lis. You were the best.

Personally, I'd like to see two respectful dedications at the end of 'The Impossible Astronaut' for Elisabeth Sladen and Nicholas Courtney.

So sad to hear the news of Elisabeth Sladen's passing. Much sadder as I only watched her on TV a couple of hours ago; David Tennant gives her a silent wave and then disappears into the TARDIS, in some ways showing The Doctor himself, saying goodbye to his most faithful companion.

First we lose the Brigadier, now Sarah-Jane and within weeks of each other. We should all be grateful that Doctor Who came back, and that Doctor Who - and Sarah Jane - came back for us and especially for Elisabeth Sladen, renewing her career and bringing Elisabeth Sladen to a new generation, and a new generation to Elisabeth Sladen. Rest in pease, most brillant and beautiful woman ever to grace the Tardis. You will never be forgotten.
