  • It's stuff like this that make me wish I stayed in drum corps

  • @gsprichard98 I used to be a Cadets expert. I've seen every show from 1993-present, as well as 83, 84, 87, 89, and 90, at least twice. Not too bad for a guy who still has three years before he ages out.

  • absolutely amazing!!!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome sound. Way better than my band. But it think these guys r taking it way to fast

  • Holy Mellophone.

  • This is cool =)

  • did they play this for there show?

  • @cj1lorenz Back in 1993. I think.

  • Bocook arrangement?

  • @HsoJosH88 Basically.

  • Jensen Beach High School Played this song in our marching show this past year. but you guys just blow my mind every time i listen to this

  • man you guys rock!!

  • this was my schools ballad in our show this year.

  • i wish i knew what those chords were at 0:30 :(

  • this is one of my all-time favorite pieces! Amazing guys!

  • It takes a lot of control to create such a moving sound...great job guys.

  • oh my god the brass hit is beautiful, were playing this for our synphonic band piece spring concert it sound beast.

  • I'm sure it doesn't compare. lmao.

  • You would be surprised what the North Hardin High Synphonic band can do.

  • Sorry bud. I know NH has one of the best programs in Kentucky, but they're not a top five drum corps of 76 brass performers capable of reaching over 120 dB. :/

  • Tru dat. when you're up close.. its like a rock concert with no amplification!!

  • I wish you could hear the mellos more in this recording. Their part is so cool during the big hit.

  • Yeah. You can still hear them ok, but I like how you can hear the baritones well.

  • I agree. The baris don't get enough credit for their parts in songs like this.

  • It's too much baritone @doublebassheeltoe. I know it probably has more to do with the camera than anything else, but it was not very well balanced at all. There is a better lot video of this piece from 2009 on YouTube somewhere (sans the percussion beating away in the background).

  • haha i played this in 7th grade!

  • I just find it really REALLY odd that a middle school is playing this. No offense to your MS, but your director must either have a lot of faith in you kids or is just plain stupid... This piece is WAYYY too mature for a middle school band to play. That's why you think it's boring. Doublebass is right. You need to gain a LOT of experience before even attempting a piece as beautiful as this.

  • Man, I wouldn't even say that. It's mostly dynamics and balance that makes this piece difficult, and if the director can work that out, this MS should be fine. I was merely referring to the meaning of this song, but you are absolutely right.

  • @doublebassheeltoe As a former music education major, I can say that this song is too hard for most middle school bands. The clarinet part is written in the part of it's register where - unless you are a really good high school or college-level band - you will not play the notes in tune. The saxophone part is written in a lot of it's lower register at pianissimo, which is VERY difficult to do, even for the most experienced players. I, personally, would not give Hymnsong to a middle school band.

  • @IIIThreat Agreed! I played this for a concert band contest in varsity band. This was very difficult. I remember saxophones having trouble on it. For me it wasn't bad at all though. I was on bass clarinet.

  • @bhav1110 Woodwind FAIL

  • @IIIThreat Undoubtedly. Even the saxophones in the high school wind ensemble, both who are very experienced, have a lot of trouble with the sax part.

  • we have to play that in our middle school, I have like fifty rests in the whole thing, it is so boring

  • Dude, I done played it. Feel privelidged to be playing such an awesome song. You don't understand how much humanity is behind that song. Perhaps one day you will know.

  • maybe, but for now it's just a lot of whole notes and rests to me.

  • It's cool man. With experience will come the knowledge. Not saying you're dumb, but in life all things are based on experience.
