I know this would pretty much apply to all alien invasion movies, but how the hell do the humans win?

These aliens have mastered to travel enormous distances in relatively short times, they found a way to cope with zero gravity, with cosmic radiation, microasteroids and a whole bunch of other shit. If an alien civilization ever reached us, we'd be done for. It's bey bey. We have the technological capabilities of ants compared to a race that would be able to travel space like that.

I haven't seen much of good sci-fi when I saw this movie, so despite the problems I see years later, I still consider it a decent movie in comparison to many other sci-fi movies of the same alien vs earth movie. :D

I loved this movie when i saw it at the theatre in 1996. I was 17 and i was totally blown away with it. I even bought it on VHS. But now, i think the movie just sucks lol. Its full of clichés, stupid jokes and bad acting. The only good thing is the FX that are still pretty good.

The only things I disliked about this movie was the "dog jumping out from the explosion in the nick of time" scene and the whole "send a virus to their mothership" part.

Everything else is pretty much what I expected when I saw the trailer 10~ish years ago. It was a satisfying movie about aliens blowing shit up and then humans fighting back.

I think this movie is okay. The main problem that I have with it is that it's a popcorn movie that tries to be more than a popcorn movie. It takes itself too seriously and tries to make us believe that this is an original movie when in fact, this is a premise that has been used and recycled countless times and continues to be to this day. If it instead was more of a salute to those old school alien films, then I would have enjoyed it more

I can't help but consider Independence Day one of the best satirical takes on America's views on patriotism and foreign policy, second to Team America. It is how America views the world, with itself at its centre and as its saviour. Just my opinion.

WOW i rarely agree with EVERYTHING this guy says but he is spot on, everyone is a crappy stereotype except for Will Smith. The Fresh Prince is so unstoppable he cant be bad in any movie. Wild Wild West does come to mind, and it was pretty terrible, but imagine how bad that movie would have been with Tyrese or some other asshole in the role. He still made it 100 times better.
