If we removed the emblems, spoilers, swapped in a 350 2v, and changed to a standard hood, it wouldn't be a GSX anymore would it? Not much of one anyway.
Just got back from the Buick GS nationals last weekend. Dad has a Grand National which is beautiful in its own right, but my god these GS'es in person are so sexy.
@bastardeyez Doesn't everybody know that muscle cars were ALWAYS under rated from the factory? The Regular GS455 produced as much as 440 HP, and with the Stage 1 package, with new cams, valves, carbs, and ram air intake, it easily produced 500HP.
@magnum9987 u know nothing about motors obviously, I have a 70 buick 455 motor with around 55,000 miles on it and it pushes no where near 440 let alone 500 horse. It was dynoedand was getting around 340 and that was with a built carb. 500 horse would put u in the 11's or maybe high 10's in a vehicle of this weight. Learn about HP.
@retained4321 340 horse sounds about right for a standard 455. My 70 455 motor dynoed at 430 hp and 530 torque but my heads have some porting done. Send your heads to Gessler Head Porting and see the difference it makes.
@retained4321 Neither do you, bigmouth. When you dyno an engine there are many factors that needs to be monitored - engine accessoiries cause drag and lowers the output figures compared to the muscle era figures. Like alternator, waterpump, powersteering, AC and exhaust like cast manifolds and full system. Air pressure, altitude, air temperature makes a big difference too. Unless these factors are known, and corrected for by calibrated instruments, comparing dynofigures is futile.
I don't like the looks of the Camaro, and if GM could bring back the GSX, I don't want it to look gay like the Camaro. If GM were to re-make the GSX, I would want it to be a new car, not 1970 re-production. If it was styled all edgy like the Camaro, I wouldn't buy it. If it was smoother like the Challenger or the Mustang, I would. I would want it to have an Aluminum engine block, for good handling via the light front end.
one thing ur missing: the camaro, challenger, and mustang are pony cars. if the GS or GSX was brought back it would be as a 70's era re-production. if it was just a brand new car without the simularities then why call it a GSX? the camaro looks edgy agreed. but when you look at it you know its a camaro. as far as an aluminum block goes, its already made. look up "LS7" its the same engine in the new z06 corvette and Hennesey racing puts them in new camaros and cadillac cts-V's. 700hp
I look at the Camaro and I say, "child's dream car." I look at the Challenger and say, 70's muscle car, made new again. A new GSX with that build style would be luscious, as a "personal luxury sports car," like the M3. Nice interior, lightweight, lots of power, and a very compliant car to drive, no understeer. Yeah, an LS7 would be good.
just looked at buicks website. bad news. there are plans for a buick regel gs...basically it's a 4-door performance sedan much like pontiacs former G8. but thats the way thing go nowadays. 4 door charger,4 door malibu, ford taurus sho. nice cars but u just dnt see too many midsize 2 door sports cars anymore
That regal is supposed to have FWD. 2.0 liter, direct injected, turbocharged four-cylinder good for 260HP. That's got to be good for a sub 7 second 0-60. Not bad. There's sketches of the new Malibu floating around out there. That car has a different profile. It may be a re-badged G8.
theres also a few rumors of the return of the caprice. it would start in europe and is a rebaged G8. still an interesting idea and the G8 has the engine id like to see in the buick GS
@mikeb1444 I don't really like the look of the newest mustang, but I think Dodge had the right idea with the Challenger. A GSX in the Camaro body would be wrong since the GSX was a big bulky, 2+ ton vehicle, like most Buicks and Caddy's at the time. The Camaro was, like you said, a pony car. If they were to bring the GSX back, I think they should bring the Chevelle back with it and built them both on the same frame. Make the GS and LT Chevelle with LS3s, and GSX and SS Chevelle with LS7s
@mikeb1444 I hate to tell the truth about what you said on this post about "No muscle car ever crested 2 tons is totally incorrect. I personally don't know where all of this misinformation is coming from, however, I will tell you that before writing about something, please check the GM original specification book before writing. The general rule for the GS455 / Stage1 or GSX455 is around 3800lbs+. The reason, most cars came with many options ex: ps/p-disc brakes/ac/-etc. Very few bare bones.
The GSX, GS, (Skylark), Chevelle, GTO, & Olds 442 are all corporate cousins. If you had them all side by side you can tell they are related, but have very distinct differences. Engines and interiors were completely different.
Well back then GM used a lot of the same parts. For example the trans am and camaro. Even Chrysler did re-used parts from their other cars, Cuda and challenger. I think The Chevelle, GTO and GSX used the same chassis and body.
Hemis are for girls, those cars couldn't get out of their own way. This has been proven at numerous Buick Vs Mopar races, every time the GS dominates, do your homework.
one of the greatest and fastest muscle cars ever built. the 455 was almost impossible to beat due to its high amount of torque of 510 which beats ass. i was watching documentarys of this car a while back they said even chryslers hemi struggle against it on the drag strip very nice car indeed and a great history behind it
it was one of the fastest the chevelle hold its own to the gsx and made more power at 450 compared to gsx with 360 or close to 400 but the 455 had more torque than the 454 with 510 compared to the chevelle with 500 plus the gsx weighed less than the chevelle. i know chryslers hemi used to get beat by this car because of its torque but idk know if the gsx can beat the chevelle also
have fun trying to find a real gsx. only 678 of them were made in 1970 and only 124 were made in 1971. you could get a skylark or a gs and clone it into a gsx. Im cloneing mine into a GS because everyone would know that mine was a clone but not if its a gs. and not all could beat a hemi.
Grand National was the GNX T type Regal in 1982-87. This is the 70 GSX Grand Sport. Whole different animal, although the GNX was about as close to this level of badass as Buick would ever see again.

i don't know where you are pullin your "facts"... but stock 455's never had HP ratings like that.
Dennis Manner (Buick engineer, who worked in Buick's stage program) dynoed ´70 455 some times ago
and results were like this:
1970 GS 455 - 361 HP @ 4400 RPM (factory rated 350 HP)
1970 GS 455 Stage-1 - 376 HP @ 5100 RPM (factory rated 360 HP)
