  • P.S. It's not gravity. Pluto has a much stronger influence on our lives and its gravitational effect is almost zero. But just watch what happens in your life when Pluto conjuncts one of your natal planets. My father died the week it hit my Sun and my fiance's father died the week it hit my progressed Sun.

  • @newtonbelieved

    You're a fucking idiot.

  • @newtonbelieved: Your user name is erroneous, Newton did not believe in astrology, or at least there's no evidence whatsoever for such a statement.

Furthermore, a bunch of scientists who lived hundreds of years ago believing in something does not automatically give it credibility; Aristotle believed flies have four legs, that doesn't make it so. Newton was a devout Christian, that doesn't serve as evidence for God's existence. Jung worked with other pseudo-sciences as well, including alchemy.

  • @MrForsyth91 Are you sure he didn't believe in Astrology? He had some kinda crazy ideas.

(I'm not arguing for astrology, just curious)

  • @raydredX: I obviously can't be sure that he didn't believe it, just as I can't be sure he didn't believe his urine was champagne, there's just no reliable evidence for it whatsoever, no mention of the subject in any of his works (according to a prominent Newton scholar, just google it to find out more) and the only evidence for it is a highly ambiguous anecdote.

  • @MrForsyth91 Well you could find a book from him saying "I think my urine is champagne", "I think it's not" or Find nothing about it. I was mostly referring to that. I was talking about that. Thanks.

  • @newtonbelieved ROFL!

  • That is his own relatively unstudied opinion. How's this for a list of great minds that both believed in and practiced astrology:

Socrates, Aristotle, Plato, Ptolemy, Copernicus, NEWTON, Kepler, Brahe, Jung.

And pop-star Brian Cox says they were all idiots.

P.S. Find out for yourself if astrology works in less than 20 minutes. Google starlove software

  • It's not just astrologers who have stated that Jupiter does influence events on earth but scientists themselves have stated this fact too. Keep up Cox! All that tv work must of diluted your closed mind brain. Either be a physicist and be honest with yourself or be a lovey on the BBC.

  • @TheLogic1010. The only way jupiter can have a profound effect on anyones life on earth is if its gravity pulls in an asteroid from the Khyper belt and sets it on a collision course with the earths orbit. This is a short clip but the rest goes on to explain just that. If you know different and can offer empirical evidence to prove otherwise I'm sure we'd all love to see it.

  • @domcarroll1 Radio Waves definitely have an affect on the Sun which affects us. Gravity is not in the running for Astrological influence, your barking up the wrong tree my friend. There has been empirical evidence to support the radio wave effect from Jupiter. Unfortunately it has been ignored because it upsets the traditional model of the solar system. I've got evidence of how the peer review system is flawed if your interested?

  • ''Astrology is a load of rubbish''

    No shit sherlock?

  • Ppl who actually believe in astrology are fucks...

  • @INMATE2468 People who denounce something before truly understanding it are bigots. Look up Vedic astrology & I dare you to enter in your exact birth info into an Indian astrology website. Read your birthchart analysis & then open your mouth.

  • @19Aries91 I've taken your challenge. Mine told me that I was cheerful, generous, and protective of my loved ones, among other qualities. All of these are very vague and things that anybody would happily accept as descriptions of themselves. The only negative characteristic I was given is "a streak of lazy", which is commonly given, since everyone thinks they could be a bit more productive. It also said that I am mild and good at controlling my anger and aggression, which is just plain untrue.

  • May the force be with you.

  • What an idiot. Gravity? You just figured that out now? That jupiter the largest planet in the solar system might have some kind of gravitational effect? Astrology doesn't work on that anyhow, it operates on the level of metaphysics. It would be like saying "don't worry about that guy's evil father who is so cruel he can't influence his son because he lives thousands of miles away".

  • @PabloPena108 You certainly dont need him to tell you that astrology is shit to know its true. Whats more hes obviously describing it so that the layman can understand. The person who doesnt read about physics every single day. As for metaphysics, I think its generally a waste of time which brings up strange new forces, old religions or giving illusions that man has more control over himself than he really has.

  • Comment removed

  • @PabloPena108 when your born the hospital has a much greater gravitational effect on you than jupiter!

its just too damn far away.

  • @mrfrosty8172

When you are born the doctor or nurse pulling you out has a much greater gravitational effect on you than Jupiter.

  • @mrfrosty8172 Who ever said gravity was involved?

  • @TheLogic1010 depends on the astrology believer!

some claim gravity is the reason, other say some spiritual stuff, but all of them are all about the stars and planets effecting us in some way.

    its completely bonkers!

  • What this 'genius' doesn't understand is that science cannot disprove anything other than another theory. Claiming 'astrology is a load of rubbish' shows profound ignorance of this. It may well be or it may not be - but to claim a definitive answer to such a question is not science. All he should say is that he believes it is a load of rubbish. Typical arrogance of a scientist.

  • I love you Brian

  • It is a load of shit.. his right :p

  • @pilgim...wow does your star sign tell you what a cunt you are or do you read tea leaves to prove that? Or maybe palm reading!? Or do you use some sort of other magical bollocks? Seriously I am fascinated because clearly rationality is quite alien to you. Though i'm not sure if that is just a turn of phraseor your literal belief. To cut my comment short, you are a absolute fucking imbecile and i'm shocked you've survived this long without forgetting to breath.

  • that's because he IS today's Carl Sagan...

  • Danisfail. Nice comment! Couldn't have put it better myself...

  • if u cant prove something it doesnt mean it isnt there

  • he reminds me of Carl Sagan

  • @FireEmblemDemon He said once that after watching Carl Sagan Cosmos he decided he wants to become scientist, or something like that.

  • @FireEmblemDemon I think he is Carl Sagan, he's come back to earth to save us all from the forces of ignorance! :P

  • @FireEmblemDemon That's the person who inspired him to become a Physicist :) Just to let you know

  • @FireEmblemDemon That's a coincidence, he reminds me of Carl Oogniseweisserdoopleplex the 5th from planet Xyz, but that's just me

  • I agree and I think that's a view all Geminis share..

  • everything I find on brian cox is just short clips are there no longer or full uploads?

  • The force, it penetrates us, surrounds us, its everything lmao star wars quote xD

  • @JooJooBnutz lol, atleast throwing ice cubes will cool it down, so theres more truth to that then the claims of astrology.

  • Astrology is complete Hokum

  • Astrology IS a load of rubbish!

  • so is jesus christ XD

  • I thought he was going to say the force :'(

  • hes so gay

  • @matchbox555 he's married.

  • @Anthonyk312 yeah its a sham

  • the gravity in my pants attracts female particles

  • lol astrology is worse than religion!

  • He says its rubbish because he cannot prove it! blinkered scientists!

  • @fourthwind1

Well if you can't prove something it's basically bollocks,

  • @Danisfail No, science cannot disprove the existence of anything. It can only disprove another theory. Science is limited by our senses and our measuring devices. Many things which we now know to be true, were not provable in the past, but that clearly doesn't mean they were bollocks. Human understanding through science is always growing but the nature of matter and reality doesn't change. Our ignorance gets smaller over time. We should be humble not arrogant.

  • @Coneman3

Ok the only sentence that really stood out was 'Many things which we know to be true were not provable in the past', but the theory that everything is made up of tiny particles of matter couldn't have been proven because they weren't technologically advanced enough, but this theory 'The end of the mayan calender means the end of the world' is different, no matter how technologically advanced we become, you couldn't prove that except for astronomers foreseeing alignment of the planets

  • @Danisfail It sounds like you are agreeing with me. There's no reasons why there are things which exist (phenomena or materials) which will never be provable no matter how technological we become. But that doesn't mean they aren't real. Science may always have limits. I don't believe in any Gods but I cannot prove it either way. All we can say is we think it's unlikely or likely. Astrology could use a different mechanism than direct planetary influence, and it could have developed empirically.

  • @Coneman3

And I'm sure there hasn't been any reports of anything of the sort

  • @fourthwind1 No, he says it's rubbish because it is.

  • Astronomy is greater than Astrology.

  • @JooJooBnutz

Oh and who made lord cox god almighty? he's a fucking douche bag keyboard player from D-ream who the BBC have held up for the moronic masses as some infallible oracle, he's a fucking muppet, half of his 'science' is being disproven as we speak. Astrology was used by the Egyptian,Greeks,Maya,Hopi etc who understood more about the universe THOUSANDS of years ago, some of which we are only just REdiscovering. But if you'd rather listen to some bell end with a haircut fill yer boots

  • @pilgim Wow...you're truly full of it, aren't you? The Egyptians, Greeks, Mayans, they all understood more about the universe than we do today? Well, I'm pretty sure they understood more back then than you do today, but that does not seem to be a very impressive feat.

  • @JooJooBnutz just because YOU dont understand a subject it dosent make it a pile of shit, you're just displaying epic ignorance. If it is a pile of shit then maybe someone should tell that to virtually every prime minister, president oh and lets not forget the queen& the other royals who take it extremely seriously, I understand that morons such as yourself read bullshit in 'the sun' and think that represents astrology but they're wrong about virtually everyting they print.

  • I thought it said astronomy, I almost busted a nut.

  • what a fag

  • @JooJooBnutz

He's Jar-Jar Binks without the ears, and a bit shorter.

  • @AngeloNiklis Oh.... now i get it LOL

  • The difference between astrology and astronomy is a decent education and a degree.

  • @rnrbishop Astronomy is REAL :D we are granted the ability to understand WHY we are here, not just to be here! Take iT :D

  • Comment removed

  • Exactly-astrology is pulled out of their arses. Astronomy is serious study. I'm at the beginning of my physics degree FTW!

  • @rnrbishop me too :) Its to easy to get inspiration, personally im really active in like politics and WHY alot of shit is going on in our world, but tbh when it comes to school, you cant really get an education in that, seems like anyone who changes this world is NOT a politician, not only is physics the only subject i found truly interesting in school, but its just so, so amazing. It does take some dedication, but once you understand it, you understand :D

  • @rnrbishop Seems like whenever a physicist gets drawn into a political discussion on power/ economy etc, or just a normal THINKING person they make so much more sense than a lying politician its unbelievable xD

  • @Etrajbe Its to do with a career based on lying and maneuvering versus someone who actually thinks logically for a career. Make Brian Cox PM I say. Resurrect Carl Sagan from the dead and make him eternal persident of the USA.

  • @rnrbishop Yep. Some careers are based on copypasta, while this is based on ACTUAL understanding, and true creativity.

  • it penetrates us......... eewwwwwwww

  • Gravity... Just a theory!

  • FORCE RULES!!!

  • Qui Gon Jinn agrees therefore Brian Cox must be right...

  • Astrology is a load of rubbish!

  • I think the word "astrology" is being used wrong. I mean geology, hydrology and so on. "logy" means to understand or theorise certain scientific subjects right?

why does astrology only seem to refer to star charts and signs with gods and whatever?

  • @SweRaider1993 Interesting question, so I actually looked into it. Astrology means "study of stars", but it's roots lie in a time when a "star" was any bright object in the sky, so that meant moons, planets, comets, whatever. This was also the time of star worship and all that, so it's use has always been wrapped up in the zodiac and that nonsense. When eventually we moved on to better things, that name was already in use to describe hocus pocus, thus we have astronomy, "law of the stars" Cheers

  • @westpsmity oh well.. thanks anyhow ^^

I'll refer to astrophysics or astronomy then ;)

  • If Jupiter can affect my mood is it the reason for morning wood? According to an ancient star chart I have... yes.

  • His Arrogance is amazing, i normally hate arrogance, but his, is just Brilliant

  • @SebBarker1992 Who, Prof Brian Cox? He's not arrogant in the slightest. You better check your definitions, start with 'Empirical'.

  • I am in love with this man

  • Astrologers have nothing better to do than complain when they get insulted by real scientists, like the great Prof. Cox here.

  • Dr. Cox has talked about the fallout from this little clip. Apparently, some major Astrology organization rallied a few other morons & they got National Geographic to write a statement that the views expressed in the program are that of Dr. Cox alone. The Astrology organization actually sent a letter asking if Dr. Cox had his chart reading done, if he has researched Astrology, & a couple of other stupid questions. I just got so irritated because of course he hasn't! IT'S NOT SCIENCE ASSHOLES!

  • @andyrooney12 Well our kind professor did reply to that stupid letter in one of his talks, and he only need 2 words to sum it up: FUCK OFF ;)

  • lol Ass-troll-ogy lol

  • And where is light, vibration and sound fit in??? Do you even know, what graviti is???

If phisicist's like Brian are best arsenal planet can produce, then we are doomed... for shore...

In my eyes an Briliant idiot controled by mass disinformation's...

  • Geronemoable

Do you even know what spelling is?........kind of hard to believe anything you say outdoes a physicist when you cannot even spell

Spell this! I'm from Slowenia!!!! OK???

  • @Geronemoable First of all, it is spelled "Gravity". Second, gravity, and I'm 100% sure Brian Cox knows this, is the distortion of spacetime by mass. and light can be affected by gravity, look at black holes, not even light can escape. Sound? Are you serious? Sound is not present in space, so if you mean sound from Jupiter affects us, then that's wrong. Space is a vacuum, therefore no sound. And vibration? You just said that at random I'm sure, because it's not important at all.

  • @Zeus0Moose Space is not empty, that is a fact. And because of vacuum that doesn't mean there is no vibration field to cary a sound wave. You don't see air but you know it exists . What is mass? Try this: Mass is a vibratory density of matter witch if strong enough can affect other objects in vibratory level thus produces a gravitational phenonema. Just like a set of sound-forks If you hit one, the others will resonate with it with same freq; Ad light as carrier and you get space-time..

  • @Geronemoable Sure, there's hydrogen atoms every here and there, but there is still no way for sound to travel. You cannot create sound without a medium, it just doesn't work. I can hear people because they manipulate air to make sound. So no, sound does not exist in space. however, you CAN take radio signals from planets and convert it into sound, but radio waves are not sound.

  • @Geronemoable And that definition of mass is garbage. Not all mass is associated with matter. Some types of energy in some ways exhibit mass. All matter has mass, but the inverse is not true and so that definition is not true.

  • @Geronemoable And gravity works like this: Matter curves spacetime, (spacetime as defined by wikipedia is: any mathematical model that combines space and time into a single continuum, this definition is correct and much different than yours.) and in this curved spacetime, free-falling matter travels in locally straight paths called geodesics. If you apply force to this matter, it deviates from the geodesic.

  • @Geronemoable And to see a simple model of gravity for yourself, if you simply drop a ball on say a bed, the hole the ball forms is comparable in a simple way to a planet or star curving space time.

  • @Geronemoable Stop making up your own version of physics it makes us who actually study it lose faith in humanity when idiots make pretend facts to try to sound intelligent

  • @ObayTheMonkey : YES MASTER... Sorry i was thinking by my self thru research made by my self and thinking by my self... It will not happen again i promise i will stay in line and obey others in their believe!!!

  • @Geronemoable Good nice to know you understand you're just not intelligent enough to collect, interpret or verify data yourself. random bit of advice sarcasm is worth bugger all typed out, YOUR MASTER HAS SPOKEN!

  • @ObayTheMonkey Who are you to judge??? And last sentence is yust a proof how big hypocrit you are.... Because my English is bad, that doesnt give you right to be so arogant and omnipotent to tell me how inteligent i am...

Ok. Question for You and Hadron freaks that apperantly know ewerithing:

Please, Define Mater, Gravity, magnetizm, light and vibration if you are so inteligent? YES, YES LOOK IN THE BOOKS!!!

    Sorry for my attitude.. ;)

  • @Geronemoable did you really just say 'witch' in between all that? haha, ironic.

  • I love how he talks to you like you are in infant school learning how to build lego towers.

  • @djzoneboro Totally!!! LOL!!!

  • does no one else think that Brian Cox is a bell end?

  • @bluerisafreak Nope! Probably just you. You should learn to enjoy l;ife more and make allowances for extroverts like Foxy Coxy as his female fans call him.

  • the ancients may have had a model where the planets were pushed around by the god of night or whatever, but in this day and age we've invented a new model of how things work by inventing an abstract concept called gravity. it may very well explain the motion of the planets extremely accurately but all we are really doing is applying a model to the way the universe is just going about. To say gravity pushes the planet around is just as bad as saying the god of night is.The map is not the territory

  • @COSMICSMI2LE Uh, no. The difference? Our theory of gravity has been tested over and over, working every time.

  • @Zeus0Moose gravity is an idea; a mathematical model that accurately depicts the motion of the planets. But ideas and models don't push planets around. Nobody knows what is going on but we invent masks and words and pretend that we have it all figure out.

  • @COSMICSMI2LE Well to put it more specifically, it's a word to describe what is going on. We call the motion of everything due to mass "gravity". And we have theories to explain "gravity". Einstein actually did propose why the planets moved, he said it was due to any object with mass curving space-time. His mathematical representations for this have held up for 100 years through constant testing.

  • @COSMICSMI2LE And it still is far more accurate than the "god of night" because the "god of night" assumes a deity to just fill in the gaps, a cop-out. Actually trying to explain what we now call gravity with mathematics and observations through the scientific method is far better. And mathematics is not equivalent to a god. It actually is valuable to proving something, unlike saying a God did it.

  • @COSMICSMI2LE Finally, you can throw around philosophical stuff all you want and how we could call it gravity or a night-god because it's just a word, but the fact is that we don't because we cannot bury ourselves in philosophy when looking at science. Gravity has come to mean the motion of everything due to mass, not a night-god, and it will almost certainly stay this way.

  • aaah, it's funny coz it's true...

  • astrology in itself is a source of knowledge that has wide areas of study but what people make of it is the rubbish.

  • @fakeaccount663 its rubbish to begin with, so nothing good can come from it, just more rubbish, but hey, they make a shitload of money with theur charlatanery.

  • I think the0fart0machine is trolling, haha.

  • oh how i do love a bit of cyber-arguing :D

  • It has come to my knowledge that I may owe an apology to Professor Brian Cox. According to a source of mine, Brian Cox is well aquainted with Astrological knowledge and study. Brian Cox has said many kinds things about Astrology and has had the intelligence to question the bias scientific mindset. But the truth takes an unwelcome turn. Professor Brian Cox was told by higher powers within science and or the media, that he must rubbish Astrology. Brian don't forget the child you were in Oldham.

  • @the0fart0machine theres still no real scientific evidence for the psuedo science of astrology. Im pretty sure Brian Cox, a PhD scientist whos extremely enthusiastic about space and science would clearly see past the claims of astrologers and see the planets/stars for what they ACTUALLY are.

how are pictures/planets in the sky going to profoundly effect my future? you realise if you went to another planet 10 billion light years away, the stars would be completely different then what it is here

  • @Rebun24 and besides on that note, the planets and the stars are FAR more interesting for what they are rather then what humans want them to be. Astrology is an extremely human-centric 'mystic' form of viewing the universe. The universe doesn't care for such drubble

  • @Rebun24

astrology is a knowledge that we dont know much of and as the pitful humans we are we always make up stuff to fill in that unknown knowledge thats why ppl worshiped the sun before they knew it was nothing more than a flaming ball of fire , and thats why people come up with pathetic theories about linking stars with the future ans such BS . i totally agree with u

  • @the0fart0machine A lovely tale , nonsense none the less.

  • @the0fart0machine are you fucking retarded?

  • Cox making an ignorant fool of himself yet again, how this pseudoscientist ever gets on the telly is a bigger mystery than the universe.

For example, Prince Charles, both his wives had sun in cancer and the moon in aquarius.

Princess Diana and Prince William both share sun in cancer, venus in taurus and sagittarius rising.

Cox would put this down to coincidence because he is stupid. If he wants to be taken seriously as a real scientist then he must grow up.

  • @the0fart0machine I hope you get cancer

  • @thewhitegoldfish Why do you hope I get cancer?

  • @the0fart0machine

The fact that you know about the zodiaks of the 'royal' family just proves you're an idiot and it automatically makes everything you say void.

  • @SloanieYE I was making a point, which was obviously not aimed at peolpe like yourself.

  • @the0fart0machine Thing is, it actually is a coincidence, you twat. You can chart the skies anyway you want to MAKE it look like there is some kind of pattern, but that's just the deceiving way in which astrologers do their "Research". The constellations and zodiac signs and other foolishness are merely figments of our imagination, things that we made up by playing connect the dots with the stars. Astrology IS rubbish, and astrologers are pseudo scientists, not Brian Cox.

  • @Drensworth Grow up little boy and make mature comments, if that is possible? No room for pseudocomments like your own. You obviously can't listen to what Cox said and understand what he said and got wrong. Astrologers state there is a correlation with Jupiter and life on earth. Cox doesn't get it, he is a joke of a professor. Oh by the way, always thought twats were useful?

  • @the0fart0machine I'm the little immature boy? You're user name is the fart machine. And I wasn't referring to this particular instance of Juptier - Earth relation. Obviously there are some connections, but not in the philisophical, life affecting, emotional way that astrologers like to interpret it as. The 'correlation' astrologers point out is probably speculation, and what not. If they start talking about gravity, radiation, light, than they are astronomers, no longer astrologers.

  • Typical Pisces!

  • Jupiter uses the force...this force surrounds us, binds us, makes stars and planets grow. It acts between you, me, the stars, planets, even the ground and the ship. Astrologers don't believe in the force.

That is why they epic fail

  • @moonrockguy Astrologers don't believe in gravity? Grow up!

  • nice one brian. what a hero! gravity= the force! obi wan would be proud!

  • astrology is a load of rubbish! LOL

  • how has no one pointed out the difference that astrology has from astronomy...

  • Comment removed

  • Cox walking a fool of himself, why doesn't he stick to wearing women's clothes.

  • yes, astrology is fucking retarded. the people i know who believe in it are retarded also.

  • Prof. Cox nailed it, its total rubish

  • May the Gravity be with you

  • @greenpenguino I think you mean "May the gravity, the weak, the strong, and the electromagnetic forces be with you."

  • Astrology and horoscopes can be dismissed even easier that this with some crude mathematics. World population ~6500000000. Share all these people with the 12 signs of the zodiac = 500000000 people all having exaclty the same type of day on Earth due to Astrological scribblings. Hmmm, seems like bullshit.

  • @proteoid

All your comment does is demonstrate you know nothing about Astrology.

Brian Cox doesn't bother checking his facts either, so you're in good company.

  • @emanitudism Brian Cox does check his facts. Let;s see your evidence for it being true, peer reviewed sources only please.

  • @emanitudism Weak and frightened people will always believe in whatever gives them comfort - regardless of how irrational that belief is. Some of us have the balls to see the world as it is, and we get out there and explore it, rahter than shy away and believe in pseudo-babble.

  • @emanitudism

You mean ~Professor~ Brian Cox doesn't check facts?

Yes, that's right, and one twelve of the entire population will have exactly the same day! Sod off!

  • @emanitudism Facts? haha, there is absolutely no facts to check about Astrology. It is complete and utter garbage. Why don't you just go and drink a homeopathic lager and read your birth chart, whilst at the same time being zapped with Zerona. Tool.

  • "...the Fo-gravity".

  • Woohoo, go Cox! What do astrologers do when angry anyway? Tear up your birth chart? Haha! I love it.

  • Ooh! If you look carefully, you might be able to see the astrologers coming for him with their torches and pitchforks... :p

  • "Astrology is a load of rubbish" XD.

    *high fives*

  • @SnowWolf91

    Grow up.

  • Dissing astrologers and referencing Star Wars in one sentence! Much <3 to Brian Cox!

  • @Quantemic yeah loving the Yoda quote. Hmm Quantum Physicist you are

  • @Quantemic wow I can't believe this got so many thumbs up? it wasn't reference to star wars, Cox was obviously referring to the force of gravity... 1 of the 4 forces that governs the physics of our reality..

  • @Flows234 I'm well aware he is talking about gravity here, but he's also almost directly quoting Yoda from Empire Strike Back. ;)
