I like to think that they were together forever, want to say that Oskar has become a vampire, too, sometimes find myself looking at the parks, hoping to see them ... kkkkk
@gersom07 You should definitely look for "Let the old dreams die" by Lindqvist - it tells about what happened to Oscar and Eli after the events described in the book and the movie.
and so the lamb fell for the lion,or was it the other way around? they seemed to both have fallen in love with the other. it shows that theres someone out there for everyone. for me,ive already found my special person.this film....its so beautiful
It's frightening, but peaceful. Dark, but delicate. Cold, but warm. Desperate, but hopeful. "Let the Right One In" is a masterpiece that sticks with you for these very reasons.
@Angelalex242 There is one potential positive to the remake: whether good or bad (I see bad), it will HOPEFULLY draw people to the original book and this wonderful movie.
@Angelalex242 And, allegedly, so does Lindqvist. There's some mention of it in this interview on Northlander and also somewhere else in the internet. The extended epilogue where the turning takes place is titled 'Let the old dreams die'.
@alekmosingiewicz ok so I may be going out on a limb here but, there is a Morrissey song by the name of LET THE RIGHT ONE SLIP IN and two lines in the lyrics read: Let the right one in...let the old dreams die! Ok, so I love this movie and I love Morrissey...and gosh I love this connection!
@PHANTASTIKMUSIK YES YES YES YOUR TOTALLY CORRECT. aND IN THE BOOK THE FIRST PAGE HAS ANOTHER MORRISEY SONG! 'I never wanted to kill. I am not naturally evil. This things I do. Just to make myself more attractive to you. Have I failed?' I love Morrisey and the film and also was estatic over the connection!
@TheVatiell Don't worry, the remake will probably just sink without a trace, and the original Let The Right One In will carry on being one of the best films of recent times (in my opinion, at least)
@sicksense22 - He already did, with the novelist's blessing. Chloe Moretz and Kodi Smit-McPhee star with Richard Jenkins, 'Tis in post-production now. Reeves spoke glowingly of the novel and film, especially how changing the leads' ages would destroy the story.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
To bad Eli was just using Oskar as a caretaker. Since that man she lived with was getting things done for her. Eli is gonna stay 12, when Oskar grows older and ends up like that guy. Luv the song, if they're ever gonna make a sequel, don't follow ANYTHING I just said!!!
For example, some people think Hakan was in love with her many years ago too, and that's why he'd do anything for her. So there's the question of if she might actually be using Oskar or not. But I personally don't think she is.
The book addresses this issue - near the end - u know then that Eli adores Oska and fell in love with him - before coming back to him he left Oska all his money and treasures (of old) but took Oskas Rubik's cube for memory. In the book under the balcony near the end made me smile and sad - let the right person into your heart to love is what the story is about
Even if she is, she's offering him an escape, a better life. That's what makes the movie so brilliant, it's so ambiguous. I watched this movie months ago, and I still think about it now.
You bring up a good point, and Eli's side would make an interesting story too. I wonder why he chose to live as a girl though? I think that even though we know she's a vampire, Lindqvist may have still wanted to keep an aura of mystery about her.
Who else plans to start cutting their wrists in a frenzy once the stupid Cloverfield director's American remake of this movie comes out??I shudder at the thought. And yes Twilight does suck. And guess what? In the book, Eli is a boy, which is expressed subtly in the film. We need gay vampires too, lol. All in all?? The book is FAR FAR better.
In book it just talk about Oskar Feels...But do you know how Eli feels? She had been over 200years as a girl...She will represent as a girl in front of Oskar...
So true man I felt the same way after watching the film, all the girls nowadays are so materialistic I just wish I could find someone like her (except my age lol).
I feel exactly the same way. I couldn't sleep for days. Or nights. Whatever. Finished the book two weeks ago and I can't think about anything else. Fucking love it.
This film is a living paradox. A realistic movie imbued with sense of genuine magic. A cold movie filled with passion. An unromantic take on vampires that comes out even more romantic than the infamous American stab at the same subject.

This movie has intoxicated my heart and soul I have seen it 5 times, and still cannot get enough, I have also read the book 3 times. Id like to add this thought. Eli and Oskar are truly in love, and I feel that Oskar will one day change, and stay by Eli for eternity
And this is why: Epilogue: Oskar sits on a train. Snow is falling outside. A large basket sits in front of him. From inside the basket comes a rapping. Oskar raps back in Morse Code, "P-U-S-S", Swedish for "kiss".
Well they already kissed once so that doesn't really mean anything, is the book really good? In comparison which is better, movie or book. Personally I thought the movie was a little short, and not alot happened. I imagine the book would have alot more content. Also do you know if there's any possibility of a sequel for the book?

The saddest thing would be if the remake sucked compared to this, but made exponentially more money. Theoretically possible, as you know.
The question more relevant is:which of the 3 options for 'where do we go from here' take place?
Option A, Oskar turns, allows for an eternal, balanced relationship, at the cost of Oskar losing his humanity.
Option B, Oskar grows up, splits one of two ways:Hakan v 2.0, or a break up.
I'd go for option A, myself.

samskater78, while it could be interpreted that way, its actually incorrect
The director of the film stated that the relationship between Eli and Oskar was genuine and that she wasnt using him
Also the author of the book is writing short stories book, one of which is a short sequel where Eli bites Oskar so they can be together for eternity
