By the end of the 18th C, the skills of the Papal Choir were insufficient for improvisation. A standard version of Allegri’s Miserere was written which has been performed ever since (here by the Tallis Scholars). For a re-creation of the version with embellishments (not improvised but based upon the research of a musicologist) visit A Sei Voci’s website. Allegri’s Miserere will never be the same for you after hearing this version!
