OKAY! You guys are right! I'm sorry! I was harsh! That was like a year ago!!! I have only done stage acting so I've always just been cast from the audition. I guess for screen actors, a demo reel is especially great! I used to be a recruiter and people did all sorts of things that made them look very desperate. I stand corrected - if you're acting and you're good, you can't quite do too much to get in front of a director. Even if it's just you on a disc! Good luck everyone!
@joey4421 Take a portable media player (iPad, portable DVD player, etc) and then you can MAKE the producers/casters watch it, and they might be interested in seeing it.
Ok get your info straight before you rip on things. Because you do need a demo reel in many cases. Some agencies REQUIRE one, so they can see your work before they decide to call you in. They want to know how well you can act before calling you in (probably so they don't get stuck with ametures who can't act). Another use for them is that casting directors do the same thing. Sometimes they want to see your work before so they don't waste their time.
from what you say i can already tell you know nothing about being an actor...because every actors know that they mostly don't cast people from audition anymore unless you are really really fucking good. They want to see you on the screen...there's a better chance of booking a job from a reel then audition, because its shows that you really are experienced, and 2 while watching you on the screen its easier to picture you as an actor in their movie...
