And darn, I just bought a mudfish at a local Asian market over the weekend and, yes, they're more expensive because they have to be shipped here from Vietnam or Thailand. Raising any kind of snakeheads for human consumption is ILLEGAL here in the US.

Is snakehead the same as mudfish???? I was in the carribean about 10 years ago and I had mudfish. It was more expensive than other fishes and it was darn good. Now for my snakehead story. I live in Tamarac FL. I see these fishes guarding these babies in the lake by my house or about 2 months. So last Saturday I decided to try and catch it I'm using zoom brush hogs (watermelon) I cast this thing grabbed and popped my 14 LB test. I cast again I guess I set the hook to fast it ripped the brush hog

As some people here seem to be aware of, this is a highly invasive species that will extirpate native fish from habitats in which it has no natural predators.

In other words, in all of the United States. It is an Anabantoid fish native to Asia, where there are likely environmental hazards/predators that keep it from taking over.

it isn ILLEGAL to throw the snakehead back into the water. doing so will cost you $1,000 in fines. you can catch as many as you want and there is no limit on catching on snakeheads, but you can never ever allow to throw any back into the water. US wildlife wants these fish from our waters.
