  • i absolutley loved this movie!

  • I would say it's at least decent, and I do not think it failed completely. I'd go as far as too say it is underrated, and did not necessarily need to be rebooted even, just have the sequel reworked a little bit. As you pretty well summed up it really tried to be something special, and I think at least to a degree it is. (I also liked Hulk's growing)

  • this movie was bad, i could appreciate it. After seeing the far superior 08 version, i can barely watch this.

  • ang's version is more a shakespearan tragedy revolved around father and son relationship, father's an obsessed mad scientist that turned his son into a monster just like the monster turns around and fight his creator. frankinstein a failure and so the father takes care of it!

  • @kfki problem is, that isn't really a proper hulk.

  • I really liked this movie because its far deeper than the soft drinks version from 2008

  • The CGI was phenomenal.

If you have the DVD, check out the behind the scenes on what went on in creating the Hulk.

  • The last time I watched this movie I was twelve going on thirteen. I remember thinking that it was a bit boring, but back then I was used to fast-paced superhero movies like Spider-Man and (God help me) Batman and Robin. I'll have to watch it again to give it a fair, mature review.

  • Addressing the split-screen stuff and why it was a MAJORLY bad idea: I get what he was trying to do but the thing is, it only works in a comic book because you can go at whatever pace you wish. You can stop and get all the details there. A movie just keeps on going though and the audience can't focus on many panels at once...at least not without being able to pause it and in a theater you can't do that. So it give the audience the impression that they are missing stuff/all goes by too fast.

  • the first spidey movie was kinda bad

  • hulk poodle tee hee

  • Also, if anybody is questioning why this movie took this root, I suggest you to read the book "Gladiator". It inspired the Superman character but it's sci-heavy, has daddy issues and it's a very edgy torturous affair. The whole tone of the book felt like the Ang Lee Hulk movie when I read it. It was uncanny.

  • The Hulk was a great movie, I thought. As an ambitious genre movie. But it was not the movie I wanted out of Hulk, if that make any sense? The main problem was they took the daddy issues from the comic and took it too far.

As far as Hulk getting bigger, sure I didn't mind. It was the sort of invention like in the Blade movie Blade being half-vampire. The element I didn't like though was the nano-tech. All you need is green gamma energy, not need for nano-tech or starfish.

  • He fights a giant poodle. Seriously, I liked this movie when I first watched it, and I agree that it's a decent film, but there are some really bad parts to it. Also, I love some of these comments. Hulk being played by a buff dude? WTF!

  • my problem is you take to many deep breaths

  • @apocalypse369 Sorry for breathing..

  • @blowshimselfupdude Have you considered encompassing editing into your review, to remove all the superflous things that would otherwise distract the viewers from the main point?

  • I enjoyed this one better..lots of space and pace to muse and really savour his situation...

  • NO! Greg Pak is HULK! Lol, good review, I like this movie a lot :D

  • @ Blows.... (not trying to be funny)

I think you hit the nail on the head with the "boring" psychological aspect of the movie. I want to say that I hated the movie because because I was expecting to see the action in the comics. We all knew that Bruce hulked out when angered. He hulked out in a hallway by himself while having a psychotic "episode". I instantly thought was "gay"! This movie seemed like it was directed by Dr. Phil. Who cares about the "deeper mean". Good review though....

  • Topher Grace would have been the best Spiderman ever

  • You "GET" this movie like I got it when it came out. I completely agree that "it wanted to be a comic book movie taken seriously". I agree with your praises and criticism of this movie.

  • I LOVE Peter David's work, but I still for some reason loathe this movie.

  • I made a review of this movie. I have a pretty similar opinion as you.

  • dude i totally agree with your opinion of this move! i would've like the ending fight scene to be a bit less, idk shady? but yeah i liked it. and yeah the spiderman movie is bad... XP but i like the ending fight of the 3rd... A LOT

  • terrible movie.

  • Ang Lee's Hulk is a great film. I disagree with the reviewer's point on the story, it is not based on the mystery of Bruce's past, but the evolution of Bruce and his father, from point A to point B. In the end, Hulk becomes a sort of hero, and David becomes a sort of Hulk-god. Second, the multi-panels are not just to create a comic book page, but present the idea of parallel points of view, parallel selves. Notice that the panels all display different angles of the same action.

  • it is a good when you are kid but as you grow up you realize it's not as great but it was awsome

  • i agree with topher grace totally for peter parker that would have been awesome

  • dude i agree with you the only good part of that movie was the joker. the rest was a pretentious piece of crap and the batman was awful but i think that as just because i saw him in "American Psycho" and since then i cant see him as anyone else

  • I did not like this movie because-like the spiderman films- it took everything i liked about a charecter and removed it to fit the director or writers vision. i think that these characters are to well known and accepted as they are and rather then bending the characters to fit your idea you should be trying to bend your ideas to fit the character or just create aa completely unique story.

  • Except 1) this is very close to the comics just with some altered bits here and there.

    2) What are you talking about? These characters aren't well known. Most people only know the TV show.

  • when i say well known i mean the generation who grew up fans of the comic series mabe i just missed out on this part of the series but i didnt think this film was true to the feeling of the hulk that i grew up on

  • The reason why i don't like this film is because the hulk remids me of shrek, not enough action, no decent villian or villian fight and Bruce Banner being a tall dude.

  • Totally underated, slick, faithful, deep (remember the face touch scene) And utterly brilliant. It just went over the O´l numbskulls, as usual.

  • I love this version.

  • Who say's you can't. LOl. 'Four Rooms' did a weird on panel insert where super-imposed animated hearts are floating and popping like bubbles over the bell hop's head. It was to indicate that he'd been enchanted by the nake wiccan chick. Nobody had any problem accepting the floating heart thing, so I don't see why a soldier couldn't have like a thought box or something.

  • Making a scene look literally like a panel in a comic isn't origina. Warren Beatey does that repeatedly in 'Dick Tracy'.

  • This movie was just really bad. It didn't do its job. But The Hulk isn't a strong enough character to really hold up a movie.

  • This movie was so bad I could only stand to watch it once. My dad hated this movie so much that he refuses to watch anything that has the name Hulk. The issue is that we understood David Banner's character more but we focused on the actions of Bruce Banner which left us feeling empty about the two off them.

  • i loved this movie too. i thought it was really good. I don't know why it gets hate either. it was really dramatic and interesting, even though I wasn't even a fan of th hulk! XD i liked the acting too. i thought the whole thing was really good.

  • I'd have to re-watch the show again to give a great rebuttle but I can think of a few things:

    1. F*ing Mutant POODLE Death Squad

    2. His Dad's murdering his Mom

    3. then injection of his son & disappearing.

The father was chaotic in motivation to me, he made no sense what so ever.

I liked the growth as it gave us more "Hulk smash" & as a Godzilla fan, felt good to see.

None the less, it feels more like you are trying to justify the movie more than honestly eval'ing it.

  • Ang lee Hulk is way better that Edward Norton's

  • Great review, thank you for this.

7:06 pretty much sums up my feelings. a case of wrong expectations that killed a lot of people's experience with this film.

but I will never understand how people overlooked the GREAT danny elfman soundtrack. created such a great atmosphere

  • I also think grey Hulk should be in a movie. I also think Joe Fixit is a good take on Hulk.

  • I think your sick, 2008 movie had all pussy actors, and copied story line of mr ang lee's original 2003 movie, which carries a real storyline and emotion, which a film should have.

  • What did you think of Nick Nolte's mad scientist father?

  • the only thing I didn't like about the movie when it came out was the CG Hulk.

And I still think OG hulk should have played the Hulk or some tall buff ass dude. Now and days I think that the movie is cool. The 2nd movie is the same to me.

    I like them the same.

  • The Hulk can't be played by some buff guy. No one matches his preportians. He's like 9 feet tall.

  • Dump some green paint on Michael Clarke Duncan... I'd watch it.

  • @blowshimselfupdude 12 feet tall.

  • @blowshimselfupdude he's bigger than that

  • the movie was the best but it was just to dragged out thats why people seemingly hated it the hulk? shrek on steroids? WTF the people on other videos that critisize are complete nincumfucks i liked both this hulk to time to get very angry but if you've seen the tank battle and when he gets out of the water tank you can see him getting mad

  • Although the story took a while to get going, the "comic panel" style cuts to other scenes/acts was a pretty neat idea, and I liked the throwback to the idea that the Hulk began in a comic strip.

I'm sure that the reason this film generated so much hate in the acerbic fan reviews is because of the deviation from the Hulk being a quasi hero, and instead being more of an "accidental" hero in the end who is misunderstood and whatnot.

  • It's not great. But it's certainly not bad.

  • @blowshimselfupdude I never thought it was really bad. In fact, I never really thought about it much at all after seeing it once in theaters.

It was very easily forgettable, and that's kind of a problem. :P

  • I thought this movie was Adequate, but not as satisfying and fun as The Incredible Hulk.

  • I thought The Incredible Hulk was 100x better than Ang Lee's version! That was a Hulk you really didnt want to make angry!

  • The panels sucked and the story took awhile to get started.

  • The main problem with the hulk movies is that, hulk as a character..doesn't have too much to him. Its a big green monster.

Which brings us to the problem with so many people hating it. The hulk character appeals too "smash..boom!" type of people, and that's a shame.

And that is why I think, in the final analysis, the new hulk movie is NOT much better that this. Because the hulk is not the most appealing character.

  • I dissagree. I think Hulk is sterotyped as samsh boom (reffrence Jeph Loeb). But he isn't. He's much more intresting. If you look at the Peter David stuff Hulk is a split personality that BAnner had before the gamma bomb. It just let him lose. Actualy Banner has a number of personalities all steming from his father abusing him. If you look at the more recent planet hulk you'll find that the normal hulk is more like a child and the king hulk is liek the angry teen hulk. So it's all image I think.

  • o and the dark knight is the best comic book movie to date. the new batman franchise is the star wars of this generation. no one reads blade thats why no one cared. ur opinions on spiderman r dead on though. topher grace would have been a great spidey. i never thought about that. all i could think about was how fucking bad of a venom he was. venom would eat his brains. and shame on sam raime for killing him. there might have been hope if he hadn't died even though he sucked

  • my favorite scene in the new one is the end when it shows that bruce can control his power. it got me so excited for the sequel or the avengers (whichever comes first). we will finally get to see the hulk as a hero not as a monster with no control that just kind of accidentally stumbles into a heroic situation

  • I dont know about everyone else but I HATE it when hollywood trys so hard to make a character like this have a powerful love story.ITS THE FUCKING HULK!!!WE JUST WANT TO SEE HIM DESTROY SHIT. AND YES, TWO HOURS OF IT.

  • Actually. Being a fan of Peter David's stuff. I'd much rather have pyscological story with some fighting. Then a stupid story with tons of fighting. I think there are 2 kinds of Hulk fans HULK SMASH!!!! Hulk fans and fans liek me who like the Peter Davind and Planet Hulk stuff.

  • I love the way this hulk looked and behaived

I didn't like how boring the movie was

The new one looks too CG And he acts stupid

Although the new one offered a lot more destruction.

  • Wow you just took a long time to say nothing!

Its ok though I understand what you mean. I like parts of ang lees and part of the new one but by its self the hulk movies haven't brought justice to the green machine.

  • Yes I do that alot.
