  • This would be a good a talk, if it wasn't so baised lol.

  • If YouTube allowed its user's to type more than 500 characters i would have much to criticize. But all i will say is that western culture WAS good at creating prosperity. The conditions of yesterday are not adequate with the present. Since the early 1900's we had the brains the know how and the feasibility to create a far fairer world. Yet most of us are conditioned in the same pattern we have been exposed to for a very long time. This is all "normal" and "right" yet it is warped and primitive.

  • I haven't bought clothes in the last month

  • I used to be a big fan of Ferguson, but unfortunately, despite his pro-British Empire rhetoric, his first alliegance is to a foreign country, the USA. Reading interviews, I am shocked at his indifference to both Scotland and Britain. It amazes me how he can write so many books portraying his country's imperial past in such a splendid light yet he feels more at home in the USA, a country devoid of culture and decency.

  • I love these TED segments. So thought provokin. But has anyone notice that this guy Niall has a jocular pretentiousness to him.Yes I understand that hes light-hearted

Deep down though this guy is self affirmin arrogant

Why is it that this type of accent and demenor is seemingly germinated n England,France, just near the united KINGdom in generally.Theres like a unspoken snootiness.Theres even a americanized verision of it

It rarely gets talked bout..&s/he who reads this knows what I mean

  • Thumbs if Kleinfeld brought you here. SUP GUISE!

  • Fuck yeah top comment

  • Hi Ms. Kelinfeld's class! It's Alexa :D

  • @Shadow90Ninja hi alexa!

  • @Shadow90Ninja ohai its brennan lol

  • @Shadow90Ninja funny cuz ur prob gonna get 24 likes, one from each person in our class...- saimoon not gonna do it and Axels gonna read

  • @Shadow90Ninja

    sup holmes

  • Churchill quote came exactly 100 years after "civilized" British parliament declared war on China for--wait for it--burning the opium British businessmen were smuggling into its borders. This is the Other Great Divergence that is glaringly absent from this presentation.

  • More sloppinesst: "China was richer than America in 1500, but America was 20x richer than China in 1970--and that's _after_ colonialism." A) What metrics and data is he using to measure America's GDP a mere 8 yrs after Columbus' landing? B) 1970 is only a couple of decades after over a century of colonialism and the Second World War. The comparison to China in 1970 is especially flimsy to anybody who knows its history. His historical knowledge and logic don't impress. Krugman sez his econ bad 2.

  • @mysterbee06 I know, right? Also, relatively same GDP between China and the US. Wait? Native Americans had a GDP? In what currency? Shells?

  • Ferguson's history is surprisingly sloppy. Johnson's Rasselas apparently never heard of China's Ming voyages 50 years before Portugal's and Spain's. Ming China _did_ sail to Africa, India, possibly even Europe and America--with 30,000 men. They _could_ have "Invaded, colonized, and imposed laws", but didn't. Perhaps, among other things, Confucianism and Taoism--both anti-consumerist--lacked the savagery and greed of the Christian West. How can Ferguson not address this contrast?

  • I personally think the West is collapsing due to its 'Over excessive' nature not because its divergence of the '6 Apps'. This '6 App'/Western model for prosperity may seem good on the surface but its very present orientated & hence, bound to fail in the long run. Sadly, most of these Developing markets are following in the exact same footsteps as the Developed Western Nations. And just like them I believe they would be successful at first & eventually end up in the same pot hole

  • The way he says "thither" gets my dick hard. And I'm a heterosexual.

  • Comment removed

  • I get a lot of what he's saying, but he really is an unlikable type isn't he? I also found some of these "killer apps" a bit redundant. I think the medical revolution is an aspect of the scientific revolution which is mostly fueled by the competition aspect. Well, it's interesting anyway.

  • A lot of the comments here have people talking about how what he's saying is wrong because westerners caused mass destruction everywhere, or the like. You guys need to get the context of what he's saying, he was an economist before he started studying history, so when he says things like "better quality of living" and "prosperity" he's talking from an economic standpoint rather than an ethical one. Ethics is another debate entirely.

  • N.Ferguson should stick with his specialty history and remember the historical experience is not useful in predicting the future development - history is not a cyclic process. If an empire vanishes, it dose not mean the society returned a start point, even if a lot of material culture was destroyed in wars, because what happened actually is destruction of the "shell of an egg" for a new social structure - more progressive and preserved experience.

  • I wonder how long it is going to be until people realise how average and insignificant China was historically and how majestic and spectacular ancient India was. His quote about the Ming dynasty is absolute garbage! No one knew who they were!

  • @Chinasucksbigtime india and china never had culture and history mate, england had the biggest empire in the world and we had to civilise the china and indian and african how to behave and teach them philoposhy you should be thanking me and giving me money for our kind projects pal, so far no indian has given english money instead they like to take money and send it to india

  • @Jimmyretired

I'm sorry I was glancing through and I happen to chuckle and stumble upon your comment about England having to biggest empire.Or basically England building up the culture of other places i.e. india and china.

I'm just asking do you believe that England was just the creme la creme always or how long ago are you going back?

  • NIALL FERGUSON = MR. BEAN!!! HA HA HA H AH AH AH HA HA HAHA!

  • @Idontgiveadamnify

More like Austin Powers if you ask me. Without the chest wig.

  • Reminds me of Newt Gingrich, in all the worst ways. Ya just want to beat him to death with an baseball bat.

  • What?????????????? The Ming Dynasty was one of the most advanced civilizations???????????? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! This guy is a clown!!!

  • @Chinahahahahahahaha I teach world history and specialize in Asian. The Ming Dynasty _was_ one of the most advanced. Not as advanced as your all-cap all-question mark logic, for sure.

  • @mysterbee06

Listen to me... China was a largely isolated, uncivilized, savage, primitive civilization! The Japanese took away all your dignity! China was colonized and Chinese women were forced into prostitution on CHINESE SOIL by the Japanese! At the same time China was colonised by the British Empire as well!! It is a fuckin joke to even utter China in the same breath as Rome, Greece, India, Egypt or Sumer! Manipulating historical facts will get you nowhere! coolie! Learn some history, clown

  • @mysterbee06

What do you mean by highest economic production in the world? What has that got to do with wealth??? EVERYTHING I mentioned in my previous post is true and you know it.... And don't call yourself an american!

  • This talk is probably the most simplistic and orientalistic talk I 've heard recently!! So, if I get this right, all empires of the past fell or weren't successful enough because they didn't have what the Christians/Westerners have and they are only rising into power now that they "copied" it.

  • Also at the end he says that "the West may collapse very suddenly, complex civilisations do that because they operate, most of the time, on the edge of chaos". Isn't that self-contradictory? If this is the case, why can't it explain the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, for example? I guess he doesn't regard it as a civilisation or as a civilisation complex enough.

Honestly, is this guy really a historian?

  • @freyat18

He seems to be one of those attention seeking media personalities that you find nowadays... they know jack s h i t about their profession, but they use their contacts to further their careers! Niall Ferguson is a joke!

  • @Chinahahahahahahaha I totally agree with you!

  • @freyat18

Niall ferguson is a fraud.... He tries to get a reaction from people.... i can;t believe he is in harvard!

  • @MrSeekerofjustice Me neither!

  • @freyat18 Before he was a historian, he was an economist. I'm not entirely sure what he meant by "the edge of chaos" either though

  • @caruru7 I think that he made a better economist than a historian. I 've heard that some of his earlier work was good.

  • @freyat18 The Ottoman Empire was uncivilized and brutal. Niall is talking about civilization, the Ottomans were hideously animalistic and not civilized. They were in a state of weakness for 400 years because they failed to keep up with western ideals.

  • @TheLiberalKnight Right, so all non-Western empires according to you were uncivilised. I wonder how you define "civilisation". Perhaps you think that only the West can be civilised or those who adopt its ideals. I am sorry but this is not true. The Ottoman Empire was a very strong empire and it contributed so much to the world that you can't even imagine. Try and read something about the Ottoman Empire and you 'll see for yourself. Don't listen to this clown!

  • @freyat18 Nope, I never said that. The Chinese were not only civilized, but they were beaming with culture. The Ottomans were barbaric and uncivilized, though. They were, quite frankly, inhumane and disgusting. They still sold women slaves in the 20th century. Their contributions to science were pitiful. Their fundamentalist Islam prevented any progress, whilst the French & British zoomed ahead of them. They were so weak, Crimea had to be fought merely to keep them alive.

  • @TheLiberalKnight So the Ottomans sold slaves but the "Western" Americans, for instance, didn't? Also, let's not forget who burned books blaming it on Christianity and who promoted art and science at the same time (look at so many monuments in Istanbul and other places). Nearly everything that has survived from Ancient Greece was preserved thanks to the "fundamentalist Muslims", as you call them, or else it would be burned. By the way, Islamism is a 20th century movement related to colonialism.

  • @freyat18 Prior to 1500, Islam did not interfere with science because it was not deemed to question Allah. However after 1500, Islam was the single thing that prevented any from of development or civilization in the middle east, whilst Protestant countries like England and the Netherlands shot ahead. Islam is still anti-scientific, which is why the middle east is a horrible, horrible, barbaric, uncivilized place.

  • @TheLiberalKnight Oh my God!!! Where do you read these non-sense? Ever heard of Avicenna or Averroes, to name a few?

  • @TheLiberalKnight Do a google search on "Medieval Muslim Scientists" and see how many come up!

Please, learn some history and don't be racist. Islam is very similar to Christianity and the Middle East is the cradle of civilisation. Don't forget that the 3 largest religions, Judaism, Christianity and Islam, were born there.

  • @freyat18 You aren't understanding what I meant. I meant that prior to 1500, most scientific research in the Islamic world was concentrating on medicine, which does not interfere with the Quarran's 'theories'. The post-1500 scientific revolution that took place in Europe did not happen in the Islamic world because the practices were deemed to be against Allah.

The Middle East used to be a wonderful place, now it is the worst place on earth by a country mile.

  • @TheLiberalKnight That's simply not true. They translated (and preserved) Ancient Greek philosophers like Plato and Aristotle because they were interested in philosophy. All those people were polymaths, which means scientists, philosophers, astronomers etc. They argued about logic, reason, ethics, metaphysics etc. At a time when Europeans were putting Galileo on trial & burning books. They had a Renaissance before the European Renaissance. Look it up! Also the ME is still a wonderful place.

  • @TheLiberalKnight "Islam was the single thing that prevented any from of development or civilization in the middle east, whilst Protestant countries like England and the Netherlands shot ahead"

I think you will find that secularism was a more potent influence in europe than protestantism, in that regard...

  • @freyat18 I just caught that too. And he teaches at Harvard. I don't get it. Is his uncle the provost?

  • @mysterbee06 Don't get it either!

  • @freyat18

And this guy ACTUALLY teaches at harvard!! Holy shit!! The guy is a retard!

  • @smirkonmyass I know, it's insane!!

  • It's an interesting idea, the killer apps. But it begs the question. Where did these "apps" come from? Why did they develop the way they did in the West differently than in other cultural/economic cores? The deeper question is unanswered.

  • What makes him so abhorrent is that he justifies the moral abyss of empire by simply stating "everyone did it," then goes on to celebrate the 'western' breed of barbarity, where the power and wealth of empire undoubtedly was derived by violence and racism and religion - this lethal cocktail called civilisation. Apologists, they stink of half truths.

  • FUCK YOU

  • To me, Youtube comments painting Ferguson "an idiot" are utterly ridiculous. His ethos alone should deter people from claiming such hidebound nonsense; he is one of the greatest economic historians of our time. Most of the "disagreements" do not even relate to his main argument: the Great Divergence is over. Lambasting his presentation over trivialities and details, which are true though admittedly not complete, is simply ignorant. It CERTAINLY does not grant people's criticizing him at all.

  • @won20529jun HA HA HA. Fanboy much ? First, on what basis does he claim superiority in the matters of empire, when he is an economist ? Second, his first book is childish and was panned by most reviewers as such. Third, he is an imperial apologist who skips over most of the gory incidents to glorify GB so that it induces a sense of nostalgia amongst the Britons to wrap the Union Jack around themselves again. Fourth, his whole idea of 'western killer apps' is baseless and caters to fools.

  • @won20529jun Ferguson is wrong with many ideas here including killer apps: 1/ capitalism fights competition it reduces profits; 2 & 4/ science and medicine in the East were more developed than the West before the Renaissance; 3/ human right to property is adopted by all societies since ancient Greece; 5/ the consumer society is a late 20th century phenomenon and is not a part of Western success; 6/ work ethics never changed for the last 10 millennia – rich exploits labour force.

  • @cosmopolite66 You're a dumbass. I think its much much more complicated than how you interpret it you have to read his book Civilisation. Stop being a troll if you're don't agree with what he says then don't watch.

  • @RedTyphoon1 Look at the top comments; they think same as I do. He is a moron and you are rude and lacking civility; you have no arguments. You are hiding in your small shell of blind young crocodile that does not know the big mail crocodile (capitalist propaganda) is out there to eat you alive. Civilization, though is captivating for laymen, is full of fallacies. He lacks correct historical method to be able to analyze the historical events. He uses liberal philosophical approach too bad.

  • @cosmopolite66 Sock puppets don't count. You're the moron, Socialism doesn't work. I never said Capitalism was perfect nor I am defending it, Its a Fucked up world. Human beings whether u like it or not are a violent predatory species. Socialism is not a cure for the world ills. Stop believing Socialist Propaganda, Socialism is like religion - false promises and visions of Utopia, but used as a tool of oppression by human beings with human flaws.

  • @RedTyphoon1 re: Its a F%^$#d up world.

Do you have a solution? If not, just shut up and think until you find one then we can argue. My solution as the socialism. Bite your elbows.

  • @won20529jun Not from reasoning and laws comes the advance of the West; due to language and geographical unity, west had uninterrupted accumulation of experience and cultural development that started in ancient Greece continued through Rome and the Renaissance and finished soon after the French Revolution. Since then, for the last 150 years and despite of the technological boom, the West is generally into a stall and decline – same economic, rights, ideology, moral values.

  • @won20529jun The West accumulated wealth through merciless exploitation of colonial labour and resources; now West is steadily losing, while the East is gaining wealth.

  • @won20529jun Re: West/East Germany; the success of any manufacturing based economy is determined not by immaterial ideas but by availability of three liberated material components – labour, capitals, and market. BRD and S. Korea had those in abundance as opposed to DDR and N. Korea. NF is not an economist neither historian but a bad hybrid from both. It is so easy to become a professor in US. He is a propaganda “scientist”.

  • @won20529jun I agree!

  • he's a majorleague cunt

  • i can't stand his face

  • @terroneonline223 e bravo il mio terrone...l'ombroso!

    ma per piacere...

  • What is this?? A European supremacist!! I thought this breed was extinct. Niall Ferguson is a rare breed! He must be put on display in a museum!

  • 2) It is true that the UK and the US had a higher GDP than India and China, but to somehow equate the UK to India and the US to China is meaningless.... The US didn't steal money from China! The UK became rich as a result of the money they stole from India.

These TED talks seem to be getting more and more ridiculous! I thought TED only had famous personalities who knew what the hell they were talking about!

  • I have two issues with Niall Ferguson's TED talk:

    1) He is GROSSLY OVER ESTIMATING and EXAGGERATING China's place in the ancient world. No doubt, china is a mentionable civilization, but it it is ludicrous beyond belief to even utter China in the same breath with the greatest civilizations such as Mesopotamia, India, etc. China was a largely isolated, insignificant civilization to the East. And if I am not mistaken, the Chinese civilization was heavily influenced by India through Buddhism.

  • What utter NONSENSE!! India was the most prosperous and wealthiest civilization for ALL of human history until the 18th century! According to economic historian Angus Maddison in his book The World Economy: A Millennial Perspective, India had the world's largest economy from the first to the 18th century, with a (32.9%) share of world GDP in the 1st century to (28.9%) in 1000 AD, and in 1700 AD with (24.4%). China or the Ottomans were nowhere close! This guy is an idiot!

  • @MrSeekerofjustice Way to miss the point completely and be wrong at the same time. Congrats.

  • @MrSeekerofjustice India still has one of the highest GDPs, because it has a huge population. Niall is talking about average wealth, so something more like GDP per capita. Sorry to see that you and six other people don't know the difference.

  • @Stimpaka

You have shot yourself in the foot! Thanks for the segway! The wealth in ancient India was more than twice the wealth of the rest of the world combined. the per capita wealth of India was the highest in the world from the first to the seventeenth century. India was the wealthiest civilization, by far! Every major civilization to have ever existed makes heavy references to the LEGENDARY, the magnificent wealth of India!

  • @MrSeekerofjustice ancient india and asia are a joke, me and my pub mates in bristol england visit india after monsson for sex, we can pull out 100 quid and i can take 2 young indian girls back to my hotel and have sex with them and beat them with bondage wips you cant get that deal in the uk mate

  • @Stimpaka

Your country wouldn't have been discovered if it hadn't been for India! Christopher Columbus went in search of the magnificent wealth of Ancient India and ended up in North America by accident! He died thinking North America was India! To be very frank, China is a joke of a civilization! Th top 1% that runs third world China is too ignorant of its vastly superior neighbour to the south!

  • @MrSeekerofjustice What a scam!!!

That is Cristoforo Colombo, and he was Italian, from Genova, Liguria.

  • @Stimpaka

Dude... China was an average civilization at best! N btw, does your mother squat on the floor and urinate and defecate while blowing snot out of her nose???????

  • @MrSeekerofjustice I wasn't disputing anything you just brought up, so you made your own segway to that little rant. So why is he an idiot? You're complaining that he doesn't give credit to India? The whole point of his speech is trying to explain why these "magnificent empires" fell. It's not disputed that India had nothing like it's previous GDP per capita.

  • @MrSeekerofjustice - At what points are you talking about? Do you mean from the 9th century AD to the 18th century AD? At other points in history the Mongol Empire, the Chinese Empire, the Persian Empire, Rome, Egypt, Nubia, Mali and Greece were some of the world's wealthiest (or THE wealthiest) civilizations. At least in the Eurasia-Africa region.

  • @A86

The chinese were never the wealthiest at any given point of time in history..... neither were the persians, Nubia, Mali and Greece

  • @MrSeekerofjustice - Obviously you've never heard of the Tang or Song Dynasty in China. Or the Hellenistic Empire. Or the Achaemenid Empire or Neo-Babylonian Empire. Or the 25th Dynasty of Egypt. India is not listed as the wealthiest civilization during these times by any serious scholar (not that it wasn't later).

I think you need to do some research on these civilizations.

  • @A86

Tang or Song Dynasty?????? LOLOLOLOLOLOL!!! Your ignorance about history is laughable! go back o china, pull your pants down and urinate and defecate all over the streets!

  • @MrSeekerofjustice - So China was not prosperous during this time because some poorer people didn't have established waste removal systems? By that "logic" India was not prosperous during this time either. *eyeroll*

And by what means are you measuring "prosperity"? GNP? GNP per capita? Estimations of HDI factors at the time for various countries? I'd like to see what economists you're going by as pompous are you're trying to sound about your opinion.

  • @MrSeekerofjustice And what exactly does this have to do with the overall point of the video? The rise of the west is what it is all about, and why they did, not that he mentioned China more than India...Was this video titled "China: most powerful region through History"? no

  • @MrSeekerofjustice This guy cannot be called as an idiot by not emphasizing India's past economic situation.

  • @MrSeekerofjustice Indian nationalist. Scary. Why your country so poor fool? Why economy grow even slower after independence? Why you copy Britain?

  • @adeafningsilence

India is not poor... India has areas that are poor. You sound like a ne'erdowell whose only formal education comes from Wikipedia! research the history of India, the culture of India and you will treat India with nothing but the utmost respect!! Britain is a joke of a country that is mooching off stolen money from India! India went from controlling 27.1% of the world's economy to less than 3% after the Britishers left! I forgive you cuz you yourself are a victim.

  • @MrSeekerofjustice You are factually wrong. 85% of Britain's GDP came from British industry. just 15% came from the empire. So no, we did not become rich because we conquered India, we became rich because British inventors are the greatest in the entire human race. We invented industry.

  • @TheLiberalKnight

Stop disgorging utter nonsense on a public forum. If you think that the British did ANYTHING POSITIVE in India, you have been terribly misinformed.

  • @TheLiberalKnight

"British inventors are the greatest in the entire human race" - Garbage! MANY OF the greatest inventions and discoveries claimed by the British were actually made in India MILLENNIA before EUROPE existed! For eg: gravity & Calculus. Isaac Newton DID NOT discover the law of gravity. It was discovered by an Indian sage called Brahmagupta millennia before Europe existed. Calculus is talked about in the VEDIC scriptures. (5000 years ago!). Are you a high school dropout?

  • @MrSeekerofjustice The Indian economy was based on the feudal sysem. Their dramatic shrinking of their role in the global economy was inevitable. When the European nations industrialized, India simply would not have industrialized on it's own. Your scientists could not compete with British ones.

  • @TheLiberalKnight

First of all, there was no such thing as GDP in ancient times. The "wealth" in India was more than twice the wealth of the rest of the world combined. You have been spoon fed propaganda, my friend. Someday you will realize the magnitude of the devastation caused in large areas of India by your fellow countrymen. India was the world's leading civilization when the British arrived.

“Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.”

    - The Buddha

  • @MrSeekerofjustice Not officially, but it is outstandingly retarded to suggest that countries did not export in ancient times. I think arguing that India was the 'world's leading civilization' in 1700 is subject to debate. It was not as glorious as, say, China. And Europe by 1700 was very much like China today, completely outproducing every other country.

  • @TheLiberalKnight

China???? HA HA HA HA HA!! It is outrageously insulting to India to even utter China in the same breath as India.

Hu Shih, former Ambassador of China to USA:

"India conquered and dominated China culturally for 20 centuries without ever having to send a single soldier across her border."

The Chinese civilization has been heavily influenced by India! And I am pretty sure you ain't British, you are one of em slit eyes.

  • @MrSeekerofjustice No no, I'm British. I admire Chinese culture. I also admire Indian culture. The Mughals were foul invaders, though. Unworthy rulers of the Indians. What I meant by China outproducing every other country was in GDP terms; they are the largest exporting nation on earth, as I'm sure you already know.

  • @TheLiberalKnight

Buddhism, yoga and martial arts was taught to the Chinese by an Indian monk named Boddhidharma. The Shaolin temple was created by Boddhidharma and he presided as the first priest! Shocked??

  • @TheLiberalKnight

Your ignorance about India is astounding and quite surprising! India WAS the world's leading civilization until the 17th century.... India is also the oldest and the oldest continuing civilization in history. If not for anything else, India should be ranked #1 for that.... And btw, there was a set of instructions that directed you to a link called "Story of India" here on this forum. see if you can find it. Search the ones marked for spam as well. I will post it if I find it!

  • @MsOlsen96

Erm waht evidence do you have to support this ludicours assertion?

you dont have any cos it isn't true.

  • @1878EFC2008

Travel to India... attend a spirituality course... you will realise what I am talking about.... The knowledge I have obtained from India is too precious to be mentioned on a public forum! goodbye

  • @MsOlsen96

    you're an idiot.

  • @TheLiberalKnight

People don't want to accept the truth! Only India can save the world now, my friend! believe me! Only INDIA has the knowledge.... If you find out the true nature of existence, your mind will be blown! Research the history of India.

  • @TheLiberalKnight You British cunts will never come out of your stuffed up selves until Britain is finished. And yes, suck it up...coz that is whats afoot...the END of Britain.

All I know is that the hundreds of Brits who look to Tata for a job dont believe in British superiority any more. Only a boot thrust on Britains face will make you understand. For India is ready to take on you racists. Its on...bitches..

You only understand force and India will talk to you the only way you understand.

  • @TheLiberalKnight

What nonsense!!! ABSOLUTE GARBAGE!! THE BRITISH ADMINISTERED 60% OF ANCIENT INDIA FOR 65 YEARS !!! THAT'S IT!!! NOT 300 YEARS!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHA!!!! MOTHER FUCKER ENGLISHMAN!!

  • @MrSeekerofjustice

India is one of the most corrupt countries in the world and has huge poverty because of it. Britain has given more back to this world than India has and this is just a fact you racist piece of trash.

  • @MrSeekerofjustice Oh, you're counting the princely states. No, not official British territory, but they were completely at our mercy. A bit of gold, and they would do whatever we wanted. Therefore Britain ruled the entire Indian subcontinent for a full 250 years.

  • @Mrparrot73

India and Britain will not go to war over some internet troll like you. India is still one of the most corrupt countries in the world, Its wealth inequality is worse than America's or Brazils, and the population is far to huge to sustain a good mixed manufacturing economy. Your comments are bigotry at best and china knows this to. China is plotting against India by establishing a relationship with Pakistan, cutting off military lines in India and currency manipulation

  • @Mrparrot73

Britain is not ending but declining. Nationalism is taking foot in Europe again and this will help get Europe back on the right track. India being the corrupt country it is still has a lot to learn. I also think the British have given more back to the world than the Indians have. THIS IS JUST A FACT YOU FUCKING BIGOT!!!!

  • @Reido2828 The FACT is that Britain is a subject nation in the American Empire. The British people are unable to come to terms with their own irrelevance and like any nation that is doomed, British people now blame each other; Scotland wants to split... and what not. 1950-2000...that was decline. Now...the end is upon you. It starts with a split Scotland.

  • @Mrparrot73

I'm not British, I'm Canadian. Britain was very intelligent and will survive well into the next century. It has not adapted the Euro and is a better position then anyone else at opting out. Keep your racist comments to your self. Hate is not going to get anyone to take you seriously

  • @Reido2828 dear fool, Britain can export only because of EU free trade. Thats what empire used to be about: trade barriers lowered by force. Now everyone in Europe hates Britain and it has no empire. Where will it export? And with weak Euro, European exports are ever more competitive.

Btw, UK has total debt at 1000% of gdp, absolutely worst in the world. The US and Eurozone have about 300%. UK is a pure service economy based on banks. Do you see the time bomb here?

  • @Mrparrot73 here in england lots of indian businesses and jewellery stores are getting targeted by smash and grab theft, the english man is angry how indians came to england and send money abroad that is why england is bust.

we had the biggest empire in thr world and indians and other asians like pakistanis have ruined the country along with the africans and poles

  • @Reido2828 This time UK has done itself in with its foolhardiness. British people are No. 1 in self promotion and this time they have swallowed their own lies.

They think they are still a superpower and so UK can stand alone... without Europe or US. This time they have set themselves up to crushed. Sorry...but the Queen empress isnt actually an empress any more.

The British have resorted to desperately pathetic moves...lavish royal ceremonies to shore up confidence in their zombified empire

  • @Mrparrot73 You've never been to Britain, then. British people are by far the most self-loathing people in the world. The fact that you think 'British people are No. 1 in self promotion and this time they have swallowed their own lies' just proves what an ignorant foreigner you really are.

You should be embarrassed that 1000 British civil servants and a small India army of 200,000 men were able to conquer your country and hold power for just short of 300 years. lol!

  • @Mrparrot73

I hope India doesn't harbor many morons like you. Britain has given so much to this world and contributed much more in democracy then India ever will. Dear fool, Some of Europe's exports are british but because of the EU economic union they get labelled a different nation from the shores. I read india is one of the worlds most corrupt country, over populated, black market is highest,China forging alliances with Pakistan. I hope you keep your racist rhetoric to your self.

  • The SWORD (representing military, conquering issues) and the PURSE (representing economic issues) have always been the two most important "Apps" to societies, with the SWORD dominating the PURSE in EVERY SINGLE POSSIBLE CONCEIVABLE CIRCUMSTANCE. I'm a big fan of Niall, but it is disingenuous not to include Military Power / Fighting Technology as one of the Killer Apps. Dominant FORCE trumps EVERYTHING. No matter an individuals / nations economic power, it falls to the dominant war machine.

  • The 6 'Killer Apps' in reality:

    1. Competiton - War

    2. Science - Weapons

    3. Property - Monarchs/Oligarchs own all the land. Population forced into wage slavery for profit of landowners for the 'privilege' of having shelter.

    4. Medicine - Healthy people work harder and for longer, control of diseases.

    5. Consumer society - Food and Drink are a privilege attainable through work.

    6. Work - Money is Debt. Debt is wage slavery. Wage slavery is work.

Niall's propaganda skills are second to none.

  • Total Bullocks! Conquest is the only answer. America = free land + free labor x lies ÷ hypocrisy. Yes, since 1492 Europe & America created great ideas, ruminated while sitting on top of the largest genocide of indigenous people and stolen land in history of the world. The reason the west is materially superior is because they are morally inferior.

  • Truth to some of what he says. Other stuff is utter nonsense. The comparatives to math scores is nonsense. Those who need to know math in the U.S. know it. A handful of minds always drive society forward with breakthroughs in thinking on any topic. The U.S. dominates international awards in mathematics/science including Nobel awards. The China/Korea/Japan math test scores mean nothing. It is based on rote cramming of what is already known. We heard this nonsense about Japan 20 years ago.

  • @123BDG123 The difference between China and Japan is that Japan only had half of the population while China has over 4 times the population that of the United States has today. The other thing is that the US population is aging - the baby boomer generation is going retire in the next 20 years. The Next 20 years we might see China get more Nobel prizes.

  • @RedTyphoon1 nonsense. You are 24. Do you even understand Asian culture? Asian monocultures do not embrace free thought and individualism. Who cares how many rote thinkers are in China? You need the cultural ability to encourage people to think new thoughts. To be different. To embrace individualism and counter-cultural thinking. Asian people who embrace those ideals are rejected by their own culture. That's why they move to the U.S. and excel while being stifled in their native land

  • @123BDG123 I've been to China and China is changing . Many Chinese are moving back to China because they know they have greater opportunities in China than the United States. The problem is that Americans are in denial, you have 5% of the world population yet have 25% of the world prison population, you have neglected education only the rich can go to college. What new thoughts? Most Americans did know where Iraq or Afghanistan were on a map. You have a $14 trillion debt.

  • @RedTyphoon1 China will be interesting to watch, but to counter your point about Chinese returning home, the China Rich List reveals that nearly half of Chinese millionaires want to leave the country with around 15% already having done so, backing up Ferguson's point about the need for the property rights app to be properly installed.

  • @123BDG123 I'm not Anti-American and I sincerely hope that America rebounds. But I also believe that many Americans have yet to came to terms with the growing rise of China. China has its issues but so does the United States. Your country faces serious challenges, China is a real competitor.

  • @RedTyphoon1 wait till china collapses. it's coming. you think with your eyes. just like nialll fergeson

  • @123BDG123 I think America might collapse first, if you don't deal with your huge debt.

  • Individual rights are real if they are secured by social institutions for allocation to persons, otherwise they are abstract. Example: freedoms are secure if can be defended by the principles of natural justice in a court of law.Rights to goods &services, freedoms, property (except to capitals) are secured by socialism; only last two are secure by capitalism.

Right to self-defense is partially secured in North American countries.Controversial issue was the right to freedoms to move, conscious.

  • @DrNikol2007 "Rights to goods &services, freedoms, property (except to capitals)" Socialism has never secured these rights. You seem to be ignorant of Stalin, Mao, Cuba, North Korea & the Khmer Rouge. Again I don't want to argue with you. There's nothing with social democracy in places like Sweden. etc. But Socialism doesn't work it violates rights & leads to oppression & authoritarianism. UTOPIAS CAN'T EXIST.

  • @RedTyphoon1 You really are soaked in propaganda. USSR, China, Cuba, North Korea, etc. were very different societies and you cannot compare them to one entity - socialism, neither I was talking about these societies. This is like to to equivicate Irack at Sadam Hussein, Chile of Pinochet or failed Mexico state with capitalism. If capitalism works, why Great Depression, recessions 1970, 73, 80, 90 2001, 09, Greece and Italy 2001, unemployment 18%?

    Socialism violates exactly which rights?

  • @DrNikol2007 Saddam Hussein was a stalinist whos party - the baarth party had Arab Nationalism & Socialism. Mexico had state owned enterprises. With Chile I don't know about Pinochet, but Chile had a great boom & is currently has one of the best economies in South America. If you read what I wrote I NEVER Said capitalism is perfect, UTOPIAs/a perfect world can't exist.

  • @DrNikol2007 You're the one who's soaked in propaganda. "Socialism violates exactly which rights?" You're an idiot who's not willing to except the truth. China, Cuba & North Korea still censor the Internet(ie Google), put people away if they criticise the gov and execute dissidents. Tianamein square massacre? Socialism is prone to oppression,

    You're like a holocaust denier.

  • @RedTyphoon1 So there is no oppression in US and Canada; look how they treat the protestants in Wall street movement; China, Cuba, N.Korea, Cambodia have never been socialist countries, but you not going to get it; What you are saying are propaganda statements; Answer: what human rights were violated in Eastern Bloc; Then answer the question about the systemic crises I enumerated. Socialism is oppression? How? I am proving you repeat propaganda slogans, not first hand knowledge. JOBLESSNESS?!

  • @DrNikol2007 At least they didn't fire into the crowd like Tianamien Square, and their voices were heard, and they allowed to protest. "China, Cuba, N.Korea, Cambodia have never been socialist countries" They are/were Socialist countries dumbass. Can u Name a socialist country that has worked?

  • @RedTyphoon1 3/More over, Mao, Castro, Kim Ir Sen, and Pol Pot, even though called them selves communists, they actually were anti Marxists. The western propaganda LOVES to call them communists and Marxists because they were bad example for socialism. Ask you self, why western propaganda avoided to give as bad examples the Eastern block countries. Because the life more or less was good there, though they were embargoed, spied on and sabotaged all the time.

  • @RedTyphoon1 4/ I was a student in there, young but not naive; If you did not want to sabotage the country you were good even as a foreigner. I did not like the Trabant, but it was a tough and enduring car, a cheep one so many people could afford it. I lieved in East Berlin; my girlfriend's father was given 4,000 m2 forest to use as a weekend refuge (for free). He had built 2 huts, furnished with good conditions for all to have fun; he had a Trabant - he was a worker, former Wermacht soldier.

  • @RedTyphoon1 I'd misspelled Wehrmacht... In Moscow, I was a student too. People were not so well off like Germans, but most of the workers were happy. The intelligentsia was not so happy and their conversations were on high values all the time like rights, liberties, justice, etc. I did not hear my acquaintance having issues with KGB. In my opinion they were too picky because Russia was the most outdated empire before the Bolsheviks; cannot catch up on 200 years capitalism in 60 years embargos.

  • @DrNikol2007 You're following Socialist Propaganda and a Dumbass. Socialism is oppression. Have u ever lived in the Soviet Union or East Germany during the era? I don't think you would have like it. Constantly in fear of the Stasi or the KGB. I never said capitalism is perfect, we don't live in a perfect world. Socialism preaches utopias but utopias can't exist. You're an narrow-minded idiot who's believes in bullshit Propaganda, you would be right at home working with the stasi.

  • @RedTyphoon1 1/Dear friend, using profanities does not make you more convincing. I have lived one year in East Germany - 1974 and four years in USSR (Moscow) - until 1978; you do not have personal experience in these countries. I had visited Czechoslovakia, Poland, Hungry, and Bulgaria. These countries were constantly under trade embargo and political provocation. Life was tough for some but good for all. STASI on Normannen Str and KGB on Lubyanka Sq were equivalent to the FBI and MI5.

  • @RedTyphoon1 2/Same way as FBI is dealing with “terrorists” in US, STASI and KGB were dealing with people who wanted to harm their countries or to destroy socialism. As you see, every country has this institution, like ASIO in Australia. If you exchange e-mails in US today, which contents words like “explosives” “bombing”, etc., FBI will knock on you door on the next day. Who’s dumb now? Do you really think socialist country had no rights to defend them selves?

  • @RedTyphoon1 Khrushchev driven western workers movements away from USSR; in addition, he made a huge mistake when he turn the cooperative farms into state farms. This led to full disarray of the agricultural sector. Brezhnev blown up the bureaucrats and driven the people in oblivion. Small countries in the Eastern block were leading their own economical policies - no solidarity. Without solidarity socialist system was doomed and it vanished. Too bad no world balance - capitalist are rampant.

  • @DrNikol2007 As I wrote you look at Greece is in debt because its runs large deficits to finance public sector jobs, pensions, and other social benefits. People in Greece retire at 52 & have generous pensions that's unsustainable. If you look at China & India - they are rising because they opened up their economies & adopted free market principles. There is less poverty now than in the 80s. Never said Capitalism is perfect but it is better.
