  • i just had a seizure....

  • to bad this did not last to long fucking autodesk

  • as usefull as the discs would be for learning this, i dont have money to buy em.. guess ill just have to figure out XSI by myself

  • sigh autodesk owns softimages xsi tool now.

  • Yes, autodesk seems to want every 3D program out there, i wonder what app is next in there list ... C4D maybe or blender ?

  • na daz studio is a competitor

  • Still free

  • Yeah... *crys*

  • Didn't they always?

  • I work With SoftimageXSI, i ve make a Map For CounterStrike, but i cant find way how to apply in game?Need other software?Or?!

  • hm...id thought you know that since your a pro

  • Source SDK is free nad it contiansd Hammer, you compile it?

  • I tinkered around with Blender once... but I had virtually no experience with these kinds of things until very very recently.

But I think Source SDK and XSI Mod Tool are amazing. Source SDK is free with any Valve-Source game and XSI Mod Tool is free. They're both fairly easy to get into... and they both have great communties online. It's easy to find help and tutorials for everything you could want to know.

If you want to get into making games. I highly recommend those programs.

  • blender sucks ass!

  • AAAWsome software, but i don't know, where to find it? Even Trial version... i found one link... i have already registered there, but nothing :D ... help :) Thanks everyone :)

  • type * mod tool activation in google*

  • thanks newnumide! :)

  • ahhh valve uses mudbox and xsi

poor me Im using zbrush, maya and max ^^

btw max rules why do you hate it?

and why xsi is getting more popular then maya?

    pls explain Im confused

  • 1. HalfLife1 models were made in Max

    2. Because maya is Film Industry oriented. And shes poly tools aren't so powerful like XSI's

  • well maya is more oriented for animation/film/special fx, max is for viz/design/architecture but they're totally equal at game making(I think)

Don't know much about xsi, Im considering to try xsi ice trial

anyway I think you dont make a mistake if you pick any of these 3

  • So, i understand it good? Is realy truth, there is that program Softimage XSI and you can do there naimations and create your own objects, characters and all these things and then take them to Half Life 2 and ep1 and 2? Is it right? Because if it is! I will make realy good things in it, if i know how to work in there :) :D Thanks for help...

  • Yeah that's right, you can download a version for free. I did yesterday. It does allow you to put things into Half-Life 2.

  • wow thanks. I'll try it too... :)

  • I'd love to see some tech requirements for this modeling package. I simply adore Blender's simplicity, and XSI bears a striking resemblance to it. Last time I tried to install it, though, my computer's openGL committ suicide. What kind of monster computer do I need to run this thing?

  • depends on how old your computer is. my comp is 3 1/2 years old, 3ghz processor, 2gb ram, and a PCI graphics card, and i don't have any trouble using XSI or Source SDK

  • Ah, there lies the problem. Basically, any progress on my mod(s) has been limited by my bad graphics card. It's an onboard, and only supports DX7. The rest is fine (I have about 1.2 gigs RAM), but that's killing me. Oh well, back to Blender3D.

  • well, for a cool 8 to 900, you can build your own custom rig and update parts individually at technology improves. it's a great way to learn about computers, and it'll prove to be cost-effective in the long run.

  • I know, but I don't seem to be able to aquire that money. I'm too young to work in any kind of job here.

  • can xsi work with xna

  • Yeah, they were the first to team up with Microsoft months back and have a export script specifically for XNA. Their demo is pretty sweet - realtime DirectX previewing and fully skinned and animated objects in a custom (usable) XNA viewer as well as procedural animation.

  • I used to be a max user but after I worked with XSI first time I loved and forgot max forever

  • what about face poser??????

  • do you use this to make character scenes for hl2 or do you use sdk faceposer for that?

  • I absolutely adore XSI and the source SDK ;) :D

Might buy your character making DVDs they look really good, and I love your free tutorials.

  • i am really sorry for what i ve said earlier about xsi.. i said even max is better.. but nope.. xsi has really good engine and it renders really fast.. now we are using maya but it cant even open large file.. xsi rendered our 5milion poly obj in 40 secs.. maya even cant open and it fails.. usage of memory is great in xsi.. i love xsi.. and i think ill switch xsi.. now i make models in maya and preapare to render in xsi.. as soon as i learn basics of xsi ill switch xsi

  • i love xsi too. i am not Mr Autodesk. halflife is a great game. i have xsi 6.02.. of course all of them have some extra good tools i like to use it. of course all of them have some extra good tools. just tell me what xsi have and i can easily say it is equvaletn in max.. i hate max's ui. but it is obvious that none of them is as good as maya. just personal thoughts. nothings surprised me.. gigapolygon wooow

  • I've used them all, right now using maya at my job, but XSI is to me the best one hands down (except when it comes to particles)

  • xsi is just ok.. cmon it is not the most powerful. even max is better than xsi.

  • We love Maya and Max! But if you took a closer look I think you would be very surprised!

  • "even" max is better :) that was nice

  • max is not anywhere near as fun, easy, or flexible as xsi. I actually do not put on my resume that I know max anymore... i just hate it that much :)

  • I have bought every dvd that Noesis have made for XSI, and I cant wait to learn, well, I'm now learning :) Thanks!

  • Great! That's good to hear. Thanks for your comment and be sure to check back for more products and free tutorials. We look forward to seeing what you create!
