It would be nice to have the chance to choose a ruler or not to.
I think that the most proper way for people who don't want to live under a government is to find a new place, seems hard to live in the same area with people who are living under a government, the government will want to exploit all people and the citizens will also want that so they can have their things a bit more cheap if the government are providing them. Sounds pretty bad.
...yeah, but representation will always become a a forum for factions and cabals to use disingenuous techniques to make those that they 'represent' think that self-centered and destructive policies are their own ideas
I think the question maybe comes down to. If your just reprisenting you are you really for society or living in a group? or are you really like a hermit living seperatly from society?
If not, It sounds maybe like you are looking for direct domcracy?
Personally I don't think we need government. Income taxes are not needed. Nor is the FED. Let's use gold and silver for trading. If we all carry guns we can protect ourselves, don't forget that pit bull when you go for a walk.
I have found that self government works, I have seen it in action when a community stands together against wrong doers, those wrong doers are not welcome and they come to find that out and they leave.
I am suprised by some of the comments you have received, Luke. It seems to me that this is a simple re-framing of your anarchistic principle, but a few comments show a new acceptance of "extreme representational government" that might not have been so quickly earned by the word "anarchy". Interesting.
this is pretty much exactly how i feel, im sure that most people in their heart do feel this way, but its often hard to find in the mass of government ideology that we have all grown up with, maybe. this is the only way that we will have an evolving structure of society aswell. it is too hard for humans to let go of the state though and once it starts growing it doesnt stop which is a sad thing
I'd like to see this working but I cannot see any rational limits on externalities without individuals using force against each other.
That may take the form of groups with common goals creating some means of using force against others, but thats not really preferable to a state in my opinion.
It'd be great if you were a little more specific in future videos. : )
Democracy as it stands today allows for the government to appear representative without actually being so. As Noam Chomsky points out, public opinion and actual policy do not match up.
And human nature has been to wage endless war. Should we accept that too? If people decided to come kill you and your family would you just accept it because it has happened in the past. You are self-defeating. If you want to accept the worst parts of humanity than I have nothing else to say to you. Just remember, we ended slavery, by reminding people like you how pathetic you are.
Your logic falls so flat because you think people will simply conform to civility without being coerced to do so. I don't "accept" endless war, I accept people are shit and seek solutions to that premise. If I'm self-defeating you're the most naive person I've had the misfortune of listening to, the stupidity of your videos never ceases to amaze me either. Furthermore, it's clear that you take every opposing view personally (insecure much?) by your petty insults. Grow some balls, mate.
*Your* logic falls so flat because you think people will simply conform to civility without being coerced to do so. What keeps the coercers civil? What reason do they have to enforce "civility"? What consequence will befall them if they fail to enforce "civility"? In the real world, with a monopolistic state, The negative consequences they face by doing the very thing you ask of them (enforcing "civility") far outweigh the positive rewards they find by being as uncivil as they can manage.
Right because the political game doesn't get rigged by the process that selects the choices the voters are presented with. Also excuse me while I go split a fatted calf at the alter of majoritarianism.
It doesn't matter how many representatives there are, there can only be one consensus, one decision; it is impossible for everyone to get their way.
No matter how decentralized a society is, there are concerns that require cooperation of the group. Humans are not just desparate individuals; we are necessarily a collective as well.
It's true, we are social creatures, but these social groups still form out of the preferences of individuals. So there is no reason to STOP respecting individuals, which is all I was really making a case for in this video.
We're basically on the same page here. Government MUST prioritize maximum respect for the individual.
However, we've seen several examples, here in the States that illustrate just how fickle the will of the people is. Gay rights have been voted out (by the majority of the public) on almost every opportunity (there have been a few notable exceptions).
As abusable as representative government is, the very structure permits some rigidity that stands against transient public opinion.
... moreover, we've seen an entire industry arise around the business of manipulating public opinion. It's unrestrainable, because even above the need to discourage demagoguery, there must be free speech.
I like your idea of having everyone represent themselves but a downside to this and other forms of democracy is that it allows mob rule to arise . So if the majority of a population wants to do something, then what's to stop them? But if everyone was well-educated, informed about stuff, and able to make rational decisions then I think it would make an excellent kind of government
Might will always make reality, either through action or inaction. That won't change no matter what form of governance exists. Even dictators have to have the support or apathy of "the mob" to survive.

Everyone representing themself is different from "democracy" how? And why would it not result in a constant bloodbath as majorities stomp minorities?

Yeah, they will create new slaves. It's human nature just accept it.
