  • Beat the shit out of him!

  • yes ive had people go into another lane to go around me because i wouldnt let them go around me when i was going faster then the posted speed limit several times before but i still look out for the other drivers only signal them to pass when its safe for everybody theres gonna be assholes everywhere you go that think that because theyre bigger you have no rights on the road

  • just ride in the middle of the road lol then he cant get around you and hell have to wait till its safe sometimes u have to take charge so others cant ... its all for safety not control

  • @tbirdpimp07 lol, indeed! Often very easy to say, far less easy to put into practice. Have you ever been forced off the road by a motorist who is determined to overtake at any cost?

  • this is a problem with no easy solution, the real culprit is urban UK roads being too narrow in many cases to support diverse traffic types safely coexisting. (I'm in San Diego, different riding atmosphere)

While you have every right to your share of the road it's not realistic to expect motorists to be forced to drive 10-12 miles per hour behind the average cyclist, is it? Something's got to give here and the law they are implementing appears tough to enforce even with your good evidence.

  • @batvette I also have every right to be overtaken at a reasonable distance. If that means the motorist has to slow down until a suitable, safe overtaking opportunity becomes available then so be it. The average speed for motorists in London is certainly slower than my average speed on a bicycle so overtaking dangerously rarely has advantages in allowing the motorist to reach their destination any quicker. If motorists were a bit less impatient and more respectful of other road users............

  • It was a completely unsafe overtake! What the fuck is wrong with the police!

  • @187Premises

Yes, indeed. It appears obvious to me that all they had to do was subtract the width of the van from the width of the carriageway to see how close this fool was.

  • Just read the description...did you ever hear back from the Police?

  • Yes, after several weeks of no replies to my emails a letter to the local Borough Commander produced a swift response: An apology for initially sending me the wrong form also stating that it was now too late to prosecute as they have to send notice of intended prosecution within 14 days of the incident. Wonderful! Also said that, as I had not taken any "evasive action" (presumably they mean by riding into the roadside barrier!) there is little chance of a successful prosecution. Continued......

  • Using this logic, it I, or any other road user, were to drive through a red light without stopping it must be OK - as long as it doesn't force anybody else to "take evasive action"! I hadn't noticed the Highway Code stating that one may pass as close as possible to cyclists providing they aren't forced to take "evasive action". The message the Police appear to be giving is that unless you ARE driven off the road they will do nothing. Don't think that's what the law is meant for, Boys-in-Blue!

  • hmm....I gave a statement last year on some tailgating I had after I told them they were taking the piss blaming me (in so many words) for stopping and telling the guy the stop tailgating. Still haven't heard back from them :P. It was on film, but unfortunately it doesn't really show how close the guy got...just me getting angry.

If they ever need my help/something serious was to happen to me I would really hold that against them.

  • oh, so we are not supposed to tell them off then!

  • Evasive action? They rulled that against you? What cr+p. The sooner the laws change so we are more like Germany the better. Vulnerable users should be protected.

  • What about a Section 59 of the Road Traffic Act, motorists should not alarm or distress road users? Do the police know what they are doing?

  • You can see that you moved closer to the edge. Mind you with those pot holes, I would have been even further out.

  • See comment above............

  • Ha Ha! Yes, I must admit a bit of helpful inspiration from your vids. As you can see I certainly moved closer to the kerb........because I could hear this bloody great engine approaching and my self-preservatory instincts took over! The guy wasn't, IMHO, going to hold back. Close to the kerb or not, there is no excuse for such idiotic overtaking.

  • I'll email your my address for my royalties payment :D

  • If I live long and prosper............:)

  • Steal my "AirZound Vs" idea :P. You seemed very close to the kerb when you were passed which is probably partly why the person squeezed through.
