  • The first time I saw Battlefield Band perform this in Kansas City, MO., they started telling this tale about being far into the Highlands when they found this old man who was playing this wonderful song. They begged him to let them play it. He finally agreed. They started with bagpipes very slowly playing notes. After about 6 notes, most of the audience cracked up when they recognized Bad Moon Rising. I have seen them in Kansas City and Edinburgh. They are great!

  • I'm grinning ear to ear. Nice touch even though I didn't expect it to work.

  • this is a good going tune which lifts the spirit every time you listen to it, thanks for posting on youtube.

  • brilliant song and tune, thanks for sharing, been a while since i saw them live,

  • i saw them live one time some years ago in invernessxand i'm sure they played this tune then.

  • Battlefield Band rules! How can a CCR cover with bagpipes not make you smile?

  • @MrCopperhead1861 That's where I'm from. Battlefield! YAS!!!

  • Does anybody know the name of the reel the piper plays from 00:42 to 00:56?

  • It's called The Rising Moon Reel

  • Does anyone know if there is sheet music available for the bagpipe part anywhere?

  • I had it once, a while ago, it came out in a music book that Battlefield Band put out in conjunction with the album this came from. Have to look around for it, and you may still be able to get it off their web-site.

  • i am sure in one or two music shops there is sheet music for the bagpipe section of this tune, maybe in inverness, it's a good going tune and the lyrics of the song are ethereal from john

  • @romoly22 I have loved this song for years (hubby used to play bagpipes), we both always assumed the piper was just riffing on the melody, no?

  • @moonschildren -riffing on a melody on the pipes is very hard to do, especially with something as intricate as a reel. My guess is this was written, rewritten and rewritten again. According to the Dunsire piping forums- "The Rising Moon Reel" by Dougie Pincock is published in the book "Battlefield Band - Forward with Scotland's Past" - Kinmor Music with a lot of songs, fiddle tunes and pipe tunes done by the Battlefield Band.

  • Fuucking awesome

  • fuck yeah!

  • mmmmmmmm very good !

  • THE BEST!

  • just blows my mind with the bagpipes great rendition
