@monkeys8myhw In Firefight and campaign there's a target locator, where you can lock on to an object, and call in an air strike to take out whatever you locked on to. In this case, he locked onto a plasma bullet from that Phantom's turret.

God, Bungie took there time when they were designing Halo's physics and mechanics. You can lock onto plasma shots, rockets can spin out of control, and for some reason, rocks cause Ghosts to accelerate to near light speed.

Plasma shots on the halo games are treated by the game as entities much the same as players, AI characters, guns, or vehicles are entities. They just have a different script running through them.
