I am a texter :-S i think its cos i am like scared of talking on the phone or something plus, when you text (i don't use text language) you can put random things into the conversation, like "Im drinking cherryade" and because it "takes so long for them to reply" by the time they do you will be doing something else so text conversations effectively last a whole lot longer. :-p
i dont use the phone if i need to get a message to someone i will talk to them in person or if i have lost contact with said person i will use the internet or go to there house or some sorta crap like that
There are just some people you do not want to talk on the phone to.
Also, you can talk to more than one person at a time.
And you can carry on doing what ever you are doing that does not involve the person on the other end of the phone.
If you are somewhere loud, you can talk to someone without having to either shout at them down the phone and just look ridiculous, or having to go outside into the potential cold to talk to them.
It depends what the aim is. If I'm trying to meet up with someone phoning is best, but if I just have a quick question, why phone up and get dragged into a conversation?!
lol! ya.. i'll text people if they're at work cuz like you said they're 'not supposed to be on the phone' and the only people i do that to usually text back till the best possible time... which is why... if you call someone it might not be good for them while they're at work... however... unless they work construction... why not just call the company phone and they can call you back when they get the chance and not get in trouble? anyway... i do text ya, but i wright the words out!!!!!!!!!!!...!
i prefer phone, yes i do text but barely but if i want to text i use aim and msn, either to someones mobile or their actual screen name, but i barely actually use either but i'd much rather use the phone
Okay, if you need to fit it into one text then yeah, cut up some words. But when people use it on E-mails...on youtube...GRRR it's really gets my goat *baa*...
ANd on MSN! You've got a whole feckin' box to type in! You may as well make it so I can tell what you're saying!!
Lol, it really bugs me. When people use it when they don't even need to.
Ah well I text because I've got this thingy with O2 that I buy 400 text messages at one point in the month, it's really worth it, so texting cost me about 3p and it's really worth it.
Though I don't have text conversations, if it's going to need replying to, I'll use the house phone or get them to ring me (if it's my parents - I wouldn't do that to my friends lol).
Interesting video Smiv, I do agree that phoning is so much simpler.
everything you have said is very true...but the companies give you a better deal sometimes on texting, for instance i have unlimited texting so i prefer to use that so i won't use up my minutes calling someone, although, i do think it takes a ton of time to send a message on texting but in some cases it's a better idea so i guess i am for texting!
I Prefer To Phone , But I Usealy Text , As It Is Alot Cheaper To Text Than It Is To Ring , Also! , I Alwaiys Get Lost In Covosation On The Phone And End Up Spending A Fortune xD
I know when it comes to my work? I'm allowed to text when I don't have any paperwork to get done. Also, when it comes to my phone plan, I don't have free long distance until after 7 o'clock. And texting doesn't count as long distance. Even though I use practically 900 minutes a month. I send about... 1500 texts a month as well. Yes. I have no life. :)
it depends who i wanna talk to. i know some people just jabber on in text speak (which i refuse to even try and understand, especially coming from people 25 and upwards...) so id call them, but if i have a quick message that i dont need a reply to right away then id text. call for everything else though.
Lol, i imagine that this was directed at someone, im admittedly a texter, only because im rather shy and although its my friends im calling i stumble my words alot of the time. "text speak" does annoy me though, i use full words but predictive text apparently messes up my texts and people cant understand them :p
I love texting because I don't have to hear all the yada yada yada just the important stuff. I make up my own wrdz, it's kinda creativ and levz out unuzd ltrs.
over 4000 text messages last month....don't really like talking on the phone as the people usually talk to don't stop talking, text messages I can just ignore if I want...
I hate abbreviations too...I always type it all out!!
I like both. I'm a super fast texter, and I can touch type so I don't actually have to be looking at my phone to be texting, so I get away with it at work.
I like the benefits of a phone call though.
I always type in proper grammar in text messaging, so my messages are usually 3 pages long.
I prefer to call someone because then you can get an instant reaction. I hate waiting round for a reply and then receiving a text 4 hours later telling me something I had already figured out by then. Although texting is convenient during school :)
i use both to be honest, but when texting i never use the short cut "c u l8r" crap. i hate it. i feel like i work for the FBI just trying to decipher what they are saying.
I find both to be extremely useful. There are many times when I have to convey information to someone and I don't really want or need to have a conversation about the information. So I just text it. The main use is addresses or phone numbers. It saves the other person that moment of "Oh crap! Where's a pen?!" If it's too loud where I am, then I'll use text to hold a conversation. But that's about the only time.
i like to phone.. you're talking in real time.. and it's more convenient.if someone was busy you would call them and then later they would see that you called and get back to you..
I mostly text, cause like em I sound really weird on the phone =P of course maybe I just sound like that normally too and people are too nice to say so?
i text. i hate using phones. i have a hard time hearing, and plus i hate awkward silences. also, you never get dropped calls, or loud noises to disrupt a conversation. i hate the way my voice sounds over the phone too. i either sound like a man or a 3 year-old.
im def a caller, i always forget to reply to txts coz i usually get them when im in the middle of something and like you say its frustrating when txts turn in to a big convo, my price plan i get 750 mins but oinly 150 txts :-)
I don't use my phone much, but when I do I text. I have a pre-paid phone and I get 1cent text's so I hardly use any money. =P But If i was more of a phone user I'd probably be on a plan and call people.
BEST vid since u started the weekly SHOW, i have to admit...i was gettin antsssscee thinkin when he the old matt goin to bring it, and u did.(I LOVEEEEE THIS SHOW, I FAV IT) I KNOW U LOVE ALL THE GOOD COMMENTS, BUT sometimes....we all need some bashin..lol (i still watch every vid, and think ur the shit) btw...give me ur num and i wont text u anymore..lol
I probably text more, I might be doing something and texting is more convenient because I just stop what I'm doing for a few seconds, send a text then continue what I'm doing while I'm waiting for a reply.
Also if I'm somewhere really noisy like up town it would be easier to text.
And if I only need to say one thing like "Meet us at the point"
It's more fun to send some one a quizzilion text messages with a small animation of a little cup cake being eaten than to just prank call some one and ask if they ordered golden lipstick.
Its all about Phoning people. The only reason people text is cus they are embarassed to talk to the person. But if you wont say it on the phone.....why bother???
Im a texter I ifnk its easier coz u dnt need to waste al lyyuur credit,me n my friends spend hours texting were quick aswell so it only takes 2 minutes for us to reply bak!
phone preferred, but obviously costs more so texting normally comes first.. theres no emotion in a text though, y'know what i mean? stuff can be interpreted differently..
i have to admit that i wasn't really fond of the whole new format thingy, i really loved your videos before it, so i'm glad it's back to how it was :)
Smiv,Im an avid watcher and loved the shows. was really into the whole concept before as well. Please dont loose faith! People dont realise what it takes to put something like that together! maybe you could continue with doing thse kinda vlogs but do a show every now and again as a special feature? just a suggestion??then you would have more time to draw on different concepts and ideas for the show? anways just me babbling i probably dont know much at al. please keep up with the vids i love them!
Sometimes people text because they can't quite bring themselves to actually say something to someone. When you speak it can come out wrong and people get their words mixed up. Texing can be more direct and to the point.
I disagree but then everyones different. If something needs to be said you should say it how it is, "straight from the heart" as they say, not dress it up in a text that could take 20mins to word correctly, and if this is the case, maybe think about what you wanna say as apose to writing it then call. Things are always better put across spoken, often things can be taken the wrong way when reading text
People don't always appreciate how much guts it can take to pick up the phone and tell somebody something 'straight from the heart' Then when you don't get the response you hope for it causes an awkward silence or an arguement even. With a text you don't have any of that. Personally... when i'm on the phone and i have something to say i babble and beat around the bush. For that reason i prefer to text. Least then i can get across just what it is i have to say, without interuption or awkwardness.
whatever's is easier for you I guess, I actually find "most" people appreciate honesty and coming "straight from the heart" Dressing it up and beating around the bush annoys me so I just pick up the phone and say what needs to be said. Like I said everyones different and sometimes they clash
depends i shall text if im asking question or summit or if arranging somethink like a day out with m8s i shall call but in general im a texter! its cheaper = Þ and i not on contract so .....
well, i'm not on contract and i've got 69p left so I guess i'm texting.
but always a serial texter, always have been, it just also allows you to collect your thoughts together and say exactly what you want instead of waffling.
Maybe it takes 10 mins for a reply because you and your mates don't text as fast as mine do, but texting is good because u can multi-task while texting =D
Half the time my phone is dead and I never feel like recharging it..but..when it is on I talk, even though my plan has unlimited texting. I'm too slow at it. I'll be in the middle of a text and be like "what the hell?" *dialing number NOW*
well i def perfer to call people...lol u should know i left u like oh so many on ur number b4...lol trying to stop stalking u...lol dont want u to think im toooo obsessive...lol hate that ur dropping the show thing, but either way as long as i can get a smiv fix im good...lol look forward to more as always
it really depends on who I'm contacting. Some people don't answer the phone but they will answer a text, and some people, well, its easier to text because they talk more than they text
I don't really use my phone, but when I do, I usually text. Mostly because the act of calling other people tends to give me panic attacks. D:
Oh, I'll answer the phone no problem, but prepping myself to make a call can sometimes take longer than it would be to have a short text conversation. And I always spell everything out properly. XD
really no more weekly shows? I realize you haven't been getting as much feedback as you'd like, but there are some of us out here to love your show!
I would totally give you ideas if I had any!!! Even without many ideas you still seem to come up with fantastic videos every week! I'm always left with a smile after each one! :D
if i reeeeeally need to talk to someone i will call them, or if they're a really good mate i'll call them, but i text or email if i don't know the person well usually because i get nervous talking to strangers... especially if it's formal convo
I was a phoner but then I lost my voice for about 8 months(!) so I turned in to a texter...now my voice is coming back I'm back to phoning people again.
I prefer phoning because in texts people can't always understand the context of what you're saying, things can be taken differently than what they're meant to if that makes sense.
dont I just know it, words can be expressed in so many different ways, I've had loads of arguements via text and instant messaging, its just easier to talk :)
i dont mind phoning if someones got somethink specific to say but otherwise theres always those long awkward silences and then u dont know how to say goodbye without sounding rude but then again sometimes when reading peoples texts its kind of like trying to decrypt a code.on a whole id say im a texter
HAHAHA!!! I can tell that ppl r not using text talk as usual on their comments cos u brung it up on ur vid xD ppl must really take ur advise... apart from me :s
but i still love maaaan... and ur vidies (funnyness :D)
''and whats the quickest way of communicating? phoning someone''
aha yes BUT it should be what is the easiest POSSIBLE way of communicating someone AT work WITHOUT getting caught?
Lets see..phoning someone, you're obviously talking therefore people can hear you. Texting, no one can hear you, and if someone does come along and see you texting its easy to quickly hide away the phone...either waaay texting and phoning are just as good as eachother =] depends what you're doing and where you are..
Goats sound just like sheep, they just have smellier breath!
:D
I bet texting did really catch on, especially, like you say because it's quiet & school kids could do it while bored in class. But I still can't understand why someone would rather text than just talking by voice if they can!
Oh, and I can't text- my fingers are just too big and they are always hitting the wrong keys!
I must admit I've never been that great at just picking up the phone and calling someone. I suppose with texting you can get straight to the point unlike when you call someone people always do the "Hey, How are you? How's your mum?" Kind of thing before they get straight to the point of why they are calling you, so it ends up taking longer and costing more. So I think it depends on the reason you're contacting that person. :]
i use both but i use Calling more then texting a bit to much i must add as i find out every month when my phone bill comes in, texting maybe cheaper but what if it goes on a couple of message it works out cheaper to phone, i just fought i would point that out as some people use that as a reason why they text and not phone, well down on yet another great vid smivdee
Um smiv, I think I rang that number and ordered some food. I thought it was a takeaway. I want my 2 large pepperoni pizzas, gravy chip and 3 cans of coke soon, me and a few mates are starving man. Message me for contact details.

Text; unlimited texts, 200 mins <3
It's more fun to send some one a quizzilion text messages with a small animation of a little cup cake being eaten than to just prank call some one and ask if they ordered golden lipstick.

i text, because i have 300 free messages, and it would cost me 25p per min to phone, and i'm a poor teenage girl xD

Texing can be more direct and to the point.
xprincesa86x 3 years ago
I disagree but then everyones different. If something needs to be said you should say it how it is, "straight from the heart" as they say, not dress it up in a text that could take 20mins to word correctly, and if this is the case, maybe think about what you wanna say as apose to writing it then call. Things are always better put across spoken, often things can be taken the wrong way when reading text
smivadee 3 years ago
People don't always appreciate how much guts it can take to pick up the phone and tell somebody something 'straight from the heart' Then when you don't get the response you hope for it causes an awkward silence or an arguement even. With a text you don't have any of that. Personally... when i'm on the phone and i have something to say i babble and beat around the bush. For that reason i prefer to text. Least then i can get across just what it is i have to say, without interuption or awkwardness.
xprincesa86x 3 years ago
whatever's is easier for you I guess, I actually find "most" people appreciate honesty and coming "straight from the heart" Dressing it up and beating around the bush annoys me so I just pick up the phone and say what needs to be said. Like I said everyones different and sometimes they clash

I'll be in the middle of a text and be like "what the hell?" *dialing number NOW*

it really depends on who I'm contacting.

XD
Honestly though, I prefer emails and IMs.

really no more weekly shows? I realize you haven't been getting as much feedback as you'd like, but there are some of us out here to love your show!
I would totally give you ideas if I had any!!! Even without many ideas you still seem to come up with fantastic videos every week! I'm always left with a smile after each one! :D

if i reeeeeally need to talk to someone i will call them, or if they're a really good mate i'll call them, but i text or email if i don't know the person well usually because i get nervous talking to strangers... especially if it's formal convo
OMGitsSeppie 3 years ago
The reason I sometimes prefer texting is when I'm somewhere were I'm aloud to use my phone, but not aloud to make a lot of noise.
Yes, my phone is therefor set to vibrate-only for both texts and calls.

i'm actually a bit of both with text and phone calls.
But at times a text is just more appropriate and descrete like at cinemas. And a text gives you time to think about what your gonna say.
Thats why I prefer doing a written blog on my website compared to video blogging.

I'm a texter.
Trillianz 3 years ago
I was a phoner but then I lost my voice for about 8 months(!) so I turned in to a texter...now my voice is coming back I'm back to phoning people again.
I prefer phoning because in texts people can't always understand the context of what you're saying, things can be taken differently than what they're meant to if that makes sense.
Hayley140789 3 years ago
dont I just know it, words can be expressed in so many different ways, I've had loads of arguements via text and instant messaging, its just easier to talk :)

"That guy" really is hilarious!
:P
Goats sound just like sheep, they just have smellier breath!
:D
I bet texting did really catch on, especially, like you say because it's quiet & school kids could do it while bored in class. But I still can't understand why someone would rather text than just talking by voice if they can!
Oh, and I can't text- my fingers are just too big and they are always hitting the wrong keys!
:P
RogCBrand 3 years ago
I must admit I've never been that great at just picking up the phone and calling someone. I suppose with texting you can get straight to the point unlike when you call someone people always do the "Hey, How are you? How's your mum?" Kind of thing before they get straight to the point of why they are calling you, so it ends up taking longer and costing more. So I think it depends on the reason you're contacting that person. :]
whataboutmegan 3 years ago
i use both but i use Calling more then texting a bit to much i must add as i find out every month when my phone bill comes in, texting maybe cheaper but what if it goes on a couple of message it works out cheaper to phone, i just fought i would point that out as some people use that as a reason why they text and not phone, well down on yet another great vid smivdee
