Great videos Luke! Just to pass on some info, for those who want more buttons but dont want cut there panel, there are a few places that sell astro panels on the web:
Also remember that blast city panels will work on a astro city cab as well.
Also, I think the only real wiring difference with MK1 cabs with the 2 different boards is the "kick-harness", or the extra connector for the low-punch and low-kick buttons for both players. So the sound cards are supposed to work (interchangeable) from a Y-Unit to a T-Unit board. You could try the sound card from your working T-Unit on your Y-Unit board and see if that is the problem and vice-versa (try the bad sound board on the T-Unit.) Cheers!
I have MK1 & MK2 cabs and spare boards for them in case they die. My MK1 has the Y-Unit board (same type you were trying to clean & restore), and the spare for it is a T-Unit board. BOTH are Revision 4.0. The T-Unit board was used in the later MK1's, MK2, and NBA Jam I believe. Same boards, just different ROMs. Some MK2's (both of mine) have smaller daughter boards attached with two pin headers on the side because I think the earlier ROMs had less capacity. Later MK2's had no daughterboard.
@GamersIncorporated- What are you on about? The Astro City is a Jamma cabinet and therefore can play Jamma games. Jamma being an arcade standard means there are tons and tons of games available for it, a lot more than the Neo Geo.
mk1 revision 5.0 used the t-unit board same as mk2. the earlier revisions used the y-unit board. weird to See MK on a japanese cabinet. Looks Awesome!!
great job man, its like everytime I watch your vids, its beyond words now, whatever nice thing that has been said, has been said, keep up the great vids, and never forget who you are and why you pst videos !
This is probably my favorite coin-op, I'll get one one day, but despite saying I'd suck JumbleJunkies cock for an MK cab' I probably wouldn't, ummm maybe, who knows, a few candles, romantic music, lots of wine, yeah why not.
loving the arcade stuff luke, MK was a classic from my youth, i remember when i was 12 or 13 showing my mum raidien's fatality, she was a bit shocked.. lol
yeh i had mk 1 pcb . it was a major pain to wire upthe extra buttons. i had a streetfigter 2 champion edition. at the time. it used to take ages because i did not have the propper loom. but it was worth it, kano was my fave player i was the dogs .
If you can I would purchase a Neo Geo instead because there is a much bigger variety of games. Astro city games are very rare to find on ebay and such, and go for a lot of money.
mortal kombat sucked because you had to remember to push a button to block instead of instinctively holding back like in street fighter 2. it was a big turn off in the gameplay.
Never seen one an MK arcade in action. Always played the console ports of MK-MK3.I am thinking that there never was release of UMK3 in arcade. I remember seeing MK 2 and MK 3 in the arcade at the time of their release. Good printing job on the MK logo there. I would have thought you bought it and stuck it on there. Great vid as always!
Aww man, how could you do such a nasty thing to such a beautiful cabinet??
Be careful the Sega Astro city police will soon put you in a straight jacket and a padded cell 'lol' Its a shame really, doing that to a cab is like picking up a great looking girl and discover later on that she was a he...
Luke whats next??? Glue a bunch of astro city cabs togehter and use them as your house??
Thats amazing how you can do the modification that you do. New name the Mad Scientist. Don't think I could ever have the courage to drill holes into an arcade cabinet.
me pasarias algunas medidas del gabinete?? saludos gracias desde Argentina

What size hole saw did you use exactly? I'm turning my 3 button Astro City into a Capcom vs SNK 2 and need more buttons.

if u used the colors on the controller/ button area on the mortal kombat artwork, it would look better.

Anyone know how much these Astro City cabinets are worth? I think I could pick one up for sorta cheap.
JBHutto 2 years ago
You can probably get one for $400 but it will be hard to find Astro City games, unless you do a conversion like Luke did with his.
GamersIncorporated 2 years ago
I found one for around 200 ish, maybe even less, I think.

There's no such thing as 'Astro City Games' its a Jamma standard cab and will play thousands of arcade PCBs.
