hi guys ... can u help me bout' something? i'm stuck between two amps.. The Fender Mustang II and Roland Cube 30? I play usually Iron Maiden and more crunchy stuff. but no new metal.. the old 80's... which do you recommend?
@ElectricGuitar1998 Let me see, I think is Bass 7, Mids 6.5, Trebble 6/6.5, Gain 10, Vol 1, Lead channel on the 'Metal' model, and just a touch of reverb or delay.
Aditionaly I have a DODVGS50 multieffects pedal in fron of the amp that I use to ad just a slight amount of aditional gain in order to push the amp's distortion up a bit (it brightens it up).
@ecgedsel depends on the gig it's probably not loud enough next to a drummer, as for the distortion pedal you can ttry it on the clean channel or the black panel channel which are voiced diferently but they are both clean (the black pannel is warmer sounding while the clean channel is very neutral)
ive been hearing the every guitar sounds the same on the cube 30. Is this true cuz i dont wana waste money on a new guitar if its gonna sound the same
@heavymetalguitarer It's partially true that solid state/modelling amps like the cube are not as dynamic as tube amps which results in a less dramatic variation in the response from one guitar to another.
But to say that they will all sound the same is a huge exageration used by tone snobs to bash modelling technology simply because it doesn't live up to their impossibly high standards.
I have 7 guitars and they all respond and sound VERY different trough the cube to my ears. my .02
To me it is, I usually stay in the metal amp models and the clean channel, but when I do go to the other models I just tweak the gain a bit and I can get some nice break / clean bluesy sounds.
The epi les paul pickups have a very round character which I think helps to keep the potential amp harshness down a bit.
The only model i haven't played around with much is the acoustic simulator.
I play mine on the clean channel with a tube screamer ts9. The sound is impressively warm and I don't have to wake up the neighborhood like I would with a tube amp.
Hey, I'm getting an Roland Cube 30x. But i want to use the effects on the amp? Mainly Distortion. Is the distortion any good on the Roland Cube 30x? Do you have the footswitch for it? Boss FS-6?
The amp doesn't have distortion as an effect, instead it has a modelling section that emulates the sound of diferent amps, including some 'distortion' amps, like Classic stack, metal, and R-fier.
I think the distortion tones are good for a practice amp, but some people that have used tube amps before might not like it as much (not as warm or tube like sounding).
AS far as the footswitch I believe the Boss FS-5U is the most apropriate one since is a non latching switch
i just got one from a trade. For a practice amp, this is quite possibly the best combo I've played through. Very Loud and the distortions on board are quite tasty. The rectifier model is pretty sweet and so is the brit model. Clean channel is flawless.
Well ok, gain it's the amount of 'distortion/gain' that comes with each amp model (like in the amp that tries to emulate), but it's not a separate effect,
in other words, it doesn't add the same kind of distortion to all models, it's funcionality/tone changes with each amp model.
The holes are there, you can only really see the one that holds de pickguard from the top of the guitar (though since its black it's not so obvious), the other one goes on the side around where the guitar sits on the leg.
I don't think it looks weird at all, in fact a lot o LP models come without the pickguard.
i have the same guitar and i would recoment it. it sounds amazin and if u change the pickups to seymour duncan it will sound just like a gibson les paul.
love the stock version, But I'm not picky about pickups or hardware, I do feel that the pickups could use a bit more beef but that's a metter of taste
I honestly don't know, havent tried a studio yet, I was under the impression that they were the same thing as the standard except for the finish, binding and inlays.
yeah exactly, the bolt on is bad, just all around, the lack of finish and what not you can deal with, but overall the quality is very noticably worse than the standards
I just checked the specs and it said that it had a set neck. My mistake. Anyways, I'm not going to get it. Probably a Les Paul BFG or a Jackson guitar...Or schecter. :)
No mate. Studio is a LP Standard without binding, trapezoid inlays or a maple top. Still ha set neck though. But I'd agree with mrfootinmouth. Save for longer and get the standard coz you'll regret it if you don't
Can the Roland Cube 30x compete with drums, or is 60 Watt version necessary? Most venues I play at have their own PA (to mic the amp), so I'm more concerned about being over-powered during practice/jams.
Nice playing man! I was going to get a Cube 30 for my birthday, but got the Cube 20 AND a Epiphone Les Paul Standard;) Epiphone are cheap here in China. Their about 120 bucks!
Yeah! For a Custom! Epiphone Les Paul Custom for 120 bucks! But Gibson's are twice the price of those in the States :( So I'm going to buy LOTS of Epiphones!
I'm in mexico and that epi cost me 550 Us (list price basically), never seen a gibson in stock but If I were to order one, I will be paying list price as well plus handling charges in the local shops.
mrfootinmouth; You won't believe this but this amp suits Epi's MUCH better than Gibsons. I've got a 1983 Gibson Les Paul Custom (very heavy!) and it sounds terribly cheap thru this amp. If i use my sons cheaper Epi L.P. thru it it sounds superb! (especially on middle p/up)
ward185: For this particular guitar it blends well. The Vox Valvetroxix is also a nice amp. I was playing a Gibson Les Paul Studio(Antique Mahogany) thru the Roland Cube and it sounded the same as the Epi Special 2 LP. Epi's seem to go well with Roland...maybe because they are both built in China?
Yes I would, and I would also recomend Vox Valvetronix amps (I have a VOX AD30VT as well) and they are both great practice amps, Its better to try them both so that you can decide which is better suited for you.
Good sound!

i also bought an epi lp recently and i'm planning to buy a cube30. do u know what's the difference betwween 30 and 30x?
tks in advance ;)
cdefgh77 2 years ago
As far as I know the 30x has an extra amp model which is designed to respond to playing dynamics, a tuner, a "aux in" input jack and a power squeezer.
that's all I can tell from pictures of the controls. the 30x is basically a slightly improved version of the 30 with some extra features
mrfootinmouth 2 years ago
tks for answering my question,i've already ordered a 30x and i'll get it soon,so excited :D

Thks, Real nice guitar for the money and plays great unless you want to shred then it gets a bit akward up the neck for me.

Roland Cube 30 or Micro Cube FX?

jscruz27 3 years ago
Don't know, the micro cubes are smaller and less featured, but more portable.
I paid around 350 US for the 30(it's not the 30X, that came out months after I got mine)

Thanks for the replies people, haven't logged in in a while. To answer some questions:
>The Roland cube is mono (if that's what you meant).
>The epi did came with the pickguard but I took it off after a while, no particular reason just liked it better like this.
>30 Watts is plenty loud I barely ever crank it past 9 o'clock
>I'm using a light flexible pick (GravePicker), I'm just digging hard, actually the hevier the pick the better for me.
Thanks for listening.
