  • Everybody stfu seriously its a song!

  • @oofak07 How dare there be 2 of something in the world!

  • @oofak07 Unfortunate that Papa Celestin is a ripoff of Cab Calloway. At least Bobby Bare has his own style.

  • @oofak07 This is the version I grew up with!! So I'll stick to this!!

  • I VISITED HIS TOUR BUS WITH A GUITAR PLAYER AT HOUSE AND BARN MOUNTIAN I SOUTHWEST VA. IN THE MID 70'S GOT A PICTURE TO PROOVE IT !!!!!

Hahaha, it reminds me of him! (:

  • this song makes my day every time i hear it.

  • 5 people wouldn't leave her alone.

  • You have to visit Marie Laveau's House of Voodoo in the French Quarter!!!..........If you dare!!!

  • @TakeBackAmerica2012

    when did you go

  • @selna26 It was late 2001 a long time ago so I don't know if it is still there. It didnt' scare me at all but it kind of freaked my daughter out!

  • Another man done gone!!!

  • The real Marie Laveau was actually a very stately and attractive woman

  • There is a bar in my town called Marie Laveau's

  • love that song

  • I loved hearing this song since I was a kid. My mom had his record and when I was 9 years old I used to play the record over and over and sing along with it. Then I saw him perform at the spokane fair. I shouted out for him to perform this song and he did.

    Gotta love Bobby Bare.

  • dr hooks is better

  • Marie Laveau was actually a very beautiful woman. This song was meant to be a parody..

  • @deathinitsarms13 NOT! have you ever seen pictures of her.... scares the hell out you!

  • LOL

  • My gym teacher calls me Marie Laveau. I can't figure out why.

  • I've got this mother-in-law, well never mind.

  • that's my ex through and through!!!

  • i think marie laveau is cute ^.^

  • When I was little LOVED this song I played it over and over and I just remembered the name I'm sooo happy :)hehe

  • who cudent like this song? lol

  • I feel bad- I remember calling my skinny sister Marie Leveau.

  • @majajh well dont feel to bad im sure she had little names that we cant mention on here for you to. because my sisters sure as hell did. lol godbless.

  • this song reminds me so much of my mother in law. she has love problems. lol

  • @39tommyboy hilarious

  • @matwocents thanks for the comment. whats really funny that just happend yesterday is it was my sons birthday and my mother in law baked a birthday cake for him. so we are sitting in the living room and she strolls in the door with this huge cake. little does she know that her saggy boobs has fallen into the cake and she has icing all over her t-shirt where the nipples are. roflmao now. whats really funny is ten people was laughing but im the one she cuss.s out for it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! godbless

  • Okay, finally listened to the Bobby Bare version, liked it a lot. But comparing it to Dr. Hooks is like comparing apples and oranges to me. Bobby's is a good upbeat, part time coutryfide song. Dr. Hooks version is driven by a nice evil dark riff. Both are quite excellent in there own right.

  • "...black trees grow AND MEET A voodoo lady named Marie Laveau..."

    2:37'

    Great! :D

  • me and my uncle sang this song at a family reunion when i was about 6 years old! love it!!!!

  • Love it.

  • when i was like 4 my grandpa used to sing this to me and it was like my fav song :)

  • For all of you that are just listening to this song and thinking that bobby bare did a great job with this song; you are exactly right!! MARIE LAVEAU really existed. She was born on September 8, 1801, and died on june 16,1881 at the ripe old age of 81

  • @soontobmamaw and she was one crazy bitch XD

  • @soontobmamaw I'm sorry but I think your math is wrong. If she was born in 1801 and lived for 81 years then she must have died in 1882.

  • great song

  • I love this song. I'm only 17 and this is one of the few songs of old country I can listen to

  • I heard this song as a child of about eight, being a Louisiana gal, this stuff is still here.

  • Have listened to this song ever since I was a little girl.....Even got Bobby Bare's autograph once.........

  • Dr. Hook odes it better, but no matter who sings it, it's awsome!

  • @muggelbornnow Im sorry but dr. hook. does not do it better

  • No doubt one of the most underrated songs of all time, I love this song.

  • I heard this for the first time while I was riding in the car about 12 hours ago. It's impossible for me not to have fallen in love with it.

  • Has to be black cat tooth, cause those are real hard to come by. i guess unless you're a voodoo witch.....

  • Definitely "black cat tooth" to go along with the "mojo bone", both of them objects of magic power. Besides, according to the end of the song Marie has a "pretty white ... tooth" (probably the only one in her jaw).

  • that is a funny song to me ive always loved it

  • Another man done gone LOL

  • black capped tooth or black cat tooth or a black cat too?

  • black capped tooth i believe

  • thank you

  • i love this song so much this is a really good song

  • This is for

castletriglav, if this is a cover then who is the original???

  • DR Hook and the Medicine Show

  • @MXshaunacy Shel Silverstein wrote it. Bobby Bare and Dr. Hook recorded a lot of Uncle Shelbys songs for him. Songs like Sylvias Mother, Cover of the Rolling Stone, The Giving Tree, and countless others.

  • I wanna go home

  • Just love this song,...thanks for sharing hunn.....muahhh

  • you 2 damn ugly for a rich woman like me!! pml I crack myself

  • Bobby Bare is one of the best!

  • duuuhhh............... like who doesn't know that" down in louisiana where the black trees grow there's a voodoo lady named marie LaVeau

  • funniest song ever lol

  • haha this song reminds me of my mamaw and papaw lol

  • ahaha this is my momma's song lmao like seriously she says eehhhh!! another man done gone! hehehehehehe ;)

  • Hahahaha!! Funny!!

  • ha ha ha sounds like my ex

  • I love this song! I also love Marie Laveau's House of Voodoo in the N'awlins French Quarter!!! It creeps some people out but I thought it was really cool!

  • haha love it!

  • I am straining my brain to think of tunes, and this one just popped in my head. I like it. Makes me think of black widow spiders.

  • This is one of my mom's old favorite's, she listened to it when she was about 10 years old.

  • I was given this on a 45 record when I was like 7 yrs. old by my dad's friend and wore it out completely lol.

  • listen to all the country legends on " country legends 100.7 in jacksonville fl

  • this song is creepy. i love it :)

  • I've been here in New Orleans 25 years. Her last name was written as "Laveau". And her remains are in the St. Louis cemetery.

  • sweet! i think it's pretty cool that she was an actual person i wish i could have met her! lol yeah i know i'm weird

  • We made a trip to New Orleans, pre-Katrina, and made it a point to visit the cemetery where Marie LaVeau is buried... Jackson Cemetery, I believe it's called. I have to wonder what became of the site in the wake of the Katrina damage.

  • I stand corrected... St. Louis Cemetery it was! Thanks!

  • haha

  • I love this song!

Marie Laveau was my aunt's aunt.

(That was random, I know. xD)

  • How old are you? The original Marie Laveau died in 1881. She was said to be over 100, but it is believed she was only 80 at the time of her death.

  • I'm only 14.

But my aunt traced her family history and such and Marie Laveau was related to her somehow. I'm pretty sure it was an aunt. I'm sure it was one of her aunt's aunt's aunt or something. xD

  • my friends did this for lip sync and i laughed sooo hard.
