Okay, finally listened to the Bobby Bare version, liked it a lot. But comparing it to Dr. Hooks is like comparing apples and oranges to me. Bobby's is a good upbeat, part time coutryfide song. Dr. Hooks version is driven by a nice evil dark riff. Both are quite excellent in there own right.

We made a trip to New Orleans, pre-Katrina, and made it a point to visit the cemetery where Marie LaVeau is buried... Jackson Cemetery, I believe it's called. I have to wonder what became of the site in the wake of the Katrina damage.
